Boosted Continuation – A new world (GL)

Chapter 218 – How does that work?

Lydia and Pete met up with Chloe's parents, and after being overwhelmed by their aura for a little bit, the parents had a long chat with each other. Unfortunately, the couple from Earth learned a bit more about the dangers of the world their daughters ended up in. Fortunately, they also made clear that most of those dangers are irrelevant, as normal people would never run into monsters and the like.

"Okay, putting the monster topic, no matter how hard that is, on hold, if we actually want to explore the capital, what exactly do we need?" Pete was still a bit preoccupied with that topic, but he was also curious about their next possible steps.

"In theory, you don't need anything." Mira shrugged. "I wouldn't recommend going unprepared if you plan to have a good tourist-y time."

"What should we do to prepare?" He rephrased his question.

"The language of the world as well as a base level of magic." She kept it short. "Neither are needed, but being able to speak the language of those around you obviously would be handy. Having some magic would prevent others from getting suspicious or curious over who you are."

"How does that work, though?" Lydia tilted her head. "Sophia said the same, but I just don't get it. Magic creates things, right? Theo and Eve, as well as my daughters, told us a few things. Water, fire, wind, stuff like that, right? Those gate things of Sophia, too. Pete and I also watched a couple of movies featuring magic, and it was basically always about the creation of things. Sometimes, it's also about the change of things. Obviously, magic is a fantasy on Earth and made up, so it's entirely possible it's just plain different, but it at least doesn't seem like that's the case."

"I actually kind of like that description." Mira reacted with a slight nod. "On the very surface level, at least. It's not beating the deity allegations, so please don't go there, but we overseers come with some extra features. We can bless other beings."

"Hah." It was very clear, judging by her reaction and expression, that Lydia wanted to say something, but as she had been urged not to do so, she remained silent.

"Because your daughters had asked me so nicely, and definitely not because I think it will lead to something interesting, I've agreed to bless the two of you with the language of this world."

"Your real intention leaked out there for a second." Fey only rolled her eyes while listening to her partner.

"I heard that, too." Chloe nodded a few times.

"Betrayed by my own family!" She decided to sound extra dramatic as she looked at them.

"Overseers like to be entertained." Steph smiled at her confused-looking parents.

"Ahh!" They were surprisingly okay with that explanation.

"I still don't quite understand how we will be able to learn the language, though." Lydia tilted her head. "Extra features or blessings aren't exactly explanatory."

"Like this~." Mira simply snapped her fingers while smiling at the couple from Earth.

"Like what…?" It only further confused them.

"It's already done~." The overseer let out a small chuckle. "You'll be able to understand and speak the language of our world now."

"Wait, what?! Just like that?!"

"Extra features~." She gave them a thumbs-up. "The finger snap actually just is additional flavor, too. I don't actually need to do that."

"Thank you!" Sophia, who also was an enjoyer of adding flavor to her magic, was happy that she wasn't alone with that. "It's so much more fun to add little gestures to it. It leaves more of an impression, as well~."

"Yeah, as you're someone who loves to be in the center of attention whenever she can, I can see why you'd like that," Fey smirked at her.

"…" The tiger took quite some damage from that.

"When it comes to that, you are rather similar to Mira, after all."

"Hey!" The overseer didn't appreciate catching strays from her partner.

"Hehe." The red fox was having a sassy day.

"Anyway, the language blessing will work on its own without you having to do anything. You won't even notice that you're speaking in a different language from what you're used to and know."

"Magic is amazing!" Lydia and Pete had the same reaction.

"Sure is~." Mira smiled at them again.

"They're starting to believe!" Steph was also happy about their reaction.

"By the way," Sophia suddenly looked at Mira. "Canir had to flick my forehead when he fixed my language skill, and gave the ability to Maya. Why don't you have to do that?"

"Well, your skulls are considerably thicker than those of your parents, so there needs to be some extra force applied for it to stick because you're so dense."

"Canir said the same!" She started pouting.

"He was just messing with you." Mira had to stifle a laugh. "Canir, out of all people, could bless a black hole at the other end of the universe with the language gift without being there himself, and a black hole is about 13% denser than you are."

"Hah, that's good to know for the next time I see him." She cracked her knuckles while saying so. "Also, HEY! AGAIN!"

"That's true, a black hole is at least 20% denser than she is." Steph sided with her sister.

"Thanks." Sophia didn't sound that appreciative, though.

"Speaking of magic," Pete got curious about that part again. "How is that going to work out for us? Giving that to someone sounds even more out of the ordinary than gifting a language skill, is it not?"

"It is quite special." The teal fox nodded. "It's not even something all overseers can do. I won't be giving it to you two, either." She then lightly shook her head. "In the first place, Sophia already decided to bless you with magic because she wanted to be the one to help you with that, as she's your daughter."

"That's how it is!" The tiger looked at her parents. "That's the very least I can do!"

"Wow!" Pete seemed incredibly impressed by that. "Wait, didn't you just say that not even all overseers, who are… not d-deities, can do that? Why is our girl able to do that?"

"…" Hearing that, the tiger instantly turned her head away from them.

"Sophia." Her mother looked straight at her. "What is this about? Was becoming a royal in this world not enough for your ego?!"

"H-Hey! Nothing I did in that regard was on purpose!" She tried to defend herself. "Also, you're mistaken! Canir, the overseer who brought me to the new world, blessed me with his magic! Among a lot of other things…" The tiger paused for a second. "While doing so, he forgot to put some limitations in place. That is the reason I can do a few tricks like this. I'm not an overseer, right?" She looked at Mira for confirmation.

"She is not powerful enough to be called one yet, yes." Her wording seemed to be carefully chosen for some reason.

"…" Sophia stared at her for a second because she knew why the overseer had phrased it like that. "I may be ridiculous, but I'm not that far gone!"

"Unfortunately, I can't bless you because Mira selfishly put limitations on the magic that she so generously gave me, but once you have some from Sophia, I can make you a little stronger, so both of us will help you!" Steph told them a little more about the plan.

"And I thank her daily for putting restrictions on the walking catastrophe that you are." Fey was delighted that Mira was more responsible than Canir.

"That's Sophia's nickname!" The dog-girl didn't appreciate that. "She worked hard for that title, so don't take that away from her!"

"Right, you are the hyperactive bundle of chaotic energy."

"Thank you very much!" She liked that description a lot more.

"And that's why you're my favorite sister." Sophia looked down at Sari in her arms and gave her a little squeeze.

"Gahh~!" While she obviously had no idea what was going on, she still enjoyed the affection she received from the tiger.

"Fair." Steph couldn't blame her for that.

"You two really found your place in life, haven't you?" While she was visibly confused about many things, Lydia was incredibly happy for her daughters.

"YES!"

"Seeing you two this happy is the best." Pete was also touched. "Though staying on topic, can we really receive magic just like that? I feel like it would be better to learn more about this mysterious power before it's inside of us?"

"Very true!" Lydia energetically nodded a few times. "I don't want to accidentally mess up something because I had no idea what I was doing."

"I'm starting to doubt they're actually their parents again." Fey thought that this was a very uncharacteristic way of thinking for anyone related to the sisters she knew.

"For now, you can bless them without activating their new magic." Mira looked at the tiger. "That way, others can sense it, but your parents won't be able to do anything that could harm them or others with it."

"That sounds perfect!" The couple was enthusiastic about the idea.

"How do I do that?" Sophia was interested in it, as well.

"It's quite simple." The overseer smiled at her. "You don't want magic to become a part of them, but instead, you want it to enter and reside in them. That way, your parents will receive some aspects of magic, but they won't be able to interact with it just yet."

"Sounds easy enough." Sophia nodded before looking at her parents. "Are you two okay with that?"

"Yes!"

Afterward, as they had decided on a course of action, Sophia got ready to bless her parents with a small portion of her magic to have them explore the new world she now lives in.
