Boosted Continuation – A new world (GL)

Chapter 209 – Something with a bit more power

Sophia introduced Fen to the new dragon in her domain, and he immediately got along quite well with Kel. In fact, it might've been a bit too much for the tiger because the two muscle heads came to the conclusion that the best way to bond would be a fight with each other while also limit-testing the rules of her domain.

"Let's do this!" After having agreed on a fight to get to know each other, Fen stretched his body to get ready.

"I'm ready when you are." Kel lifted the front part of his long body and towered over the wolf to make himself look extra menacing.

"There's no need to present your body like this." The wolf reacted with a slight scoff while looking at him. "Being this big only means that I have more area to attack and hurt you. It will be easier for me to hit, too."

"On the contrary, it only means that I have more mass to decimate you." Kel couldn't let that slide. If anything, as a non-overseer, all your tiny body will be able to do is slightly tickle me."

"Oho, I'll tickle you, don't worry about that~." Fen was getting heated up

"Come at me!"

"If you two ever finish flirting, I'm ready, okay?" While the two were having their exchange, Sophia had gotten another chair out of her storage and got comfortable on the little island she and Fen were on.

"HEY!" The two did not appreciate her comment.

Once Fen finished glaring at the tiger, he jumped on the water with a big leap and landed right in front of Kel. Upon making contact with the surface, the water under his paws instantly froze and made him able to stay atop of it. From there, the area around him kept freezing with each passing moment.

"I am not the biggest fan of ice." In reaction to that, the dragon moved his body away from him.

"Neither am I." Fen shook his head while shuddering for a second. "In fact, I hate it, but a crazy fox reminded me of how useful it can be." Chloe and her wintery holiday retreat had left some mental scars on him. As he was saying this, everything in a circle of around 150 meters around him had already frozen solid. Everything except the water in the immediate vicinity of Sophia's Island for some reason. She was having none of those icy shenanigans. A little while later, she decided to raise the height of her island to get further away from the water and have a better overview.

As the wolf's ice platform continued to grow in size, the water around it started to become turbulent. Bigger and bigger waves formed and tried to reclaim the platform, but they instantly froze over when they came into contact with the ice. The frozen waves quickly formed a wall at the edge of Fen's platform, and it grew in size whenever water splashed against it.

Before long, the icy island, thanks to the massive waves continuously hitting it, had turned into a frozen dome that had swallowed the wolf seemingly without any sense of resistance from him.

Naturally, especially after having been humiliated by Sophia earlier that day, Kel didn't believe it would be this easy to defeat him. Another massive tsunami-like wave formed out of nowhere and sped towards the dome. Moments later, it hit it with so much force that it simply ran over it without the slightest bit of resistance. Once the wave ebbed down, the ice had disappeared.

It didn't stay gone for long, though. A couple of seconds later, countless massive meter-long ice spikes shot out of the water and flew toward the dragon from every angle. Right before they came too close to the dragon, Kel created a veil of water all around him that flash-froze when the spikes hit it. For a moment, it seemed like the massive dragon was trapped inside the wall of ice, but it instantly shattered into tiny sparkly particles in a gigantic explosion.

After things cleared up again, Kel began to create a massive whirlpool around him. The water began spinning at an increasing speed and soon expanded to 500 meters wide and 200 meters deep, with him at the bottom of the very center and only his head peeking over the original waterline.

Immediately after, Fen shot out of the whirlpool's side and lounged at the dragon's head with seemingly impossible speed. However, Kel was able to dodge him, which caused the wolf to land on the water on the other side behind him. Just like before, when his paws touched the surface, the water froze to provide a foothold for him.

The intensity of the freezing was slightly different this time, though. It didn't stop at a small island for the wolf, and instead just kept going and going. Only seconds passed before the entire whirlpool, and every other bit of water in the visible area had been frozen solid, creating a fantastical icy spectacle that would put Steph and Chloe in pure awe.

"You like ice way too much." Until now, Kel was watching, reacting, and attacking in silence to better concentrate, but he just had to comment on it again. "I used to preferably live in warm oceans and spent the last millennium in a desert oasis lake. I'm not a fan of the cold, so I can't say I like the tactic you're going for here."

"I guarantee you that I hate the cold even more than you do!" Fen glared at him while looking at the frozen hellscape that he had created all around them. "It's the worst, but ice is quite effective at controlling water."

"That is not wrong, but also rather boring." Saying so, the dragon slid alongside the outline of the frozen whirlpool to get out of it.

Back on top of the water, Kel looked around for a moment before a massive shelf of ice with a diameter of 100 meters was carved out of the lake to the left of him. Levitating in the air for a little while, it then suddenly shot towards the wolf on the other side of the whirlpool, separating the two.

The ice made it roughly 2/3 of the way over the whirlpool crater, but before it got too close to the wolf, a massive ball of bright yellow fire rapidly approached the shelf of ice. The instant the two connected, a gigantic steam explosion erupted, covering the entire area in an instant.

Using the cloaking effect of the steam, Kel didn't waste any time and launched a couple of dozen more shelves of ice toward Fen. The retribution fire from the wolf caused everything around them to light up in an orange-yellow hue as the steam diffused the light in the vicinity. As it was harder for the wolf to pinpoint the attacks, he resorted to an area defense, ensuring nothing could get close to him.

Having to use the fire more broadly, the temperature wasn't quite high enough to create instant steam explosions anymore, but it still was enough to completely melt the massive plates of ice before reaching the wolf.

This went on for a good couple of minutes before the steam all around them eventually thinned down enough to make them able to see again. Things had changed considerably, as well. All around Kel, countless craters had been gouged into the ice, but the remains of the ice whirlpool had been entirely filled with the molten ice from the fore, creating a lake inside the lake.

"I hope fire was more to your liking." Sounding a little smug after things calmed down, Fen looked at the dragon on the other side of the melted lake.

"A lot." Kel lightly moved his massive head up and down. "Don't you think it was a bit of a puny flame, though? I was hoping for a little more oomph, you know?"

"I think it was an adequate response to baby's first ice attack, wasn't it?"

"Ahaha, aren't you a cocky one?" The dragon let out a roar-like laugh.

"Takes one to know one." Fen threw it right back at him.

"How about we try something with a bit more power?"

"I was getting a little tired of playing around, so I'm all for it." The wolf just nodded in return.

The area turned a little silent after the two agreed to stop playing, and it seemed like they had started to concentrate on something.

Kel wasn't able to see it, but countless raw environmental magic particles had been forming and increasing in number around him ever since. More and more were moving over to him from the wolf, as well.

Things around Fen were also changing, though. While the ambient magic around him wasn't increasing for some reason, around ten spheres of water with a diameter of one meter each formed around him. Instantly after, they began to shake and vibrate in an erratic way, as if being influenced by some kind of force before eventually being forced into a razor-thin sheet of water.

Afterward, everything happened in an instant. The razor-like water exploded in Fen's direction while the air around Kel ignited and swallowed everything in a pale blue, almost invisible kind of flame. But actions were accompanied by something resembling a supersonic boom, and the heat of the fire was so intense that everything in the vicinity looked distorted. The ice below the dragon immediately evaporated, as well. A steam explosion didn't even have the time to happen because it was gone too fast.

All of this happened in a fraction of a second, and it was over even faster. Before Fen or Kel could receive any damage from their attacks, everything was suddenly wrapped in a bright white flash, and once they were able to see again, everything was gone. The ice and water, the razor-like blades, the fire, all of it. The dragon and the wolf landed on the pure-white default texture of Sophia's domain, and it seemed like nothing at all had happened in the past half hour.

"Well, congrats on the draw." Everything except Sophia, her little island, and the chair she was sitting on was gone, that is.
