Reborn With a Magic System

Chapter 314 – Shopping

When Damion, Sharon and Bethany emerged from the portal, Elicia was nowhere to be seen. Evidently, she had already started her own tour. Wanting to show off his new home, he began leading his mother around the house while Bethany ran off in search of Elicia.

Sharon was amazed by how large his new home was. She was particularly impressed with the kitchen and dining room. The house was large and spacious, far larger than the house they had while living in Saung and an absolute mansion compared to the apartment they had in Levande.

"You haven't decorated at all," Sharon said after the tour was over. "And is not having a single window a security feature or some peculiarity of being a mage? You said you had all our old things? Where are all the boxes?"

"Outside," Damion told them.

"Outside? Aren't you worried about the rain or people just walking off with something?"

"Not really," Damion said with a grin. "We are underground, remember. There is no point in having windows, because there is nothing to see. I might buy some enchanted artwork of landscapes. To make it feel like less of a dungeon."

"Oh, now that is a good idea. You could have different views in every room. There is a lovely artist in Levande that does wonderful work. You should go and see what she has after we finish unpacking."

"Sure."

"Now, show us to the boxes," Sharon demanded as Bethan reappeared while pulling Elicia by the hand.

Damion led them to the front door and into the remaining bit of cavern that he had enlarged so he could fit the storage container. After setting up a lantern from his adventurer kit to let the others see, he got out of their way as they started going through the storage container.

The two women quickly began moving boxes out of the crate while directing Damion where the boxes should be deposited in the house. Once they reached the furniture, he was relegated to moving each piece to the right room, which he made short work of by using the Magic System Inventory.

When Damion spotted Elicia carrying a large box to one of the rooms he rushed over and tried to take it from her.

"Let me carry that for you."

"It isn't that heavy," Elicia insisted.

"But should you be carrying anything? I mean you shouldn't exert yourself."

"I am fine. And if you don't let me help, I am going exert myself with a smack to your head."

Damion dropped the topic with Elicia's threat of violence and went back to moving boxes. He quickly checked each box and grabbed all the heavy ones and moved them first. Being an expectant father was still a bit surreal to him and not having spent much time with Elicia since he learned she was with child left Damion trying to figure out ways to be helpful. She may not have wanted anyone to treat her different, but that did not stop him from trying to be thoughtful, even if she would be angry with him if she found out.

After a few hours, the cargo container was empty, and Damion's house was decorated. Of course, there were still several rooms that were completely empty. There simply was not enough furniture to fill every room, but that did not stop Sharon and Elicia from making lists of what Damion would need to buy and planning their own shopping spree after he took them back to Levande.

"Are you sure I will need all these things?" Damion questioned as he looked over the list.

"Of course. You can't have a house with empty rooms. I will let you manage those rooms you said were your workshops, since I don't know anything about setting up magic workshops. But you let me worry about the rest of the house. Oh, and those couple boxes of clothes for us and a few personal items for our apartment, make sure to bring those with us."

Doing as his mother asked, Damion pulled the boxes into his Inventory and cast Portal to take them all back to Levande. Once back in the family apartment, he left the boxes on the floor and reactivated his Metamorphic Bracelet. If they were going to go shopping, he did not want to risk being recognized.

As they walked through various stores, Sharon would point out things for Elicia to weigh in on and the pair would either select it or look at a different version or color before agreeing. The longer Damion walked through the store, the emptier his payment card became. Even if he did not spend money very often, he still tried to keep funds on hand in case he needed them. At this rate he was going to need to go hunt Demonic Beasts to replenish his pocketbook.

"Oh, and this for the nursery," Elicia said grabbing a box that had a picture of an elaborate looking crib on it.

"Yes. That one will work well. Shame I had gotten rid of Bethany's crib before the move. I just didn't think I would a grandmother this soon."

"Well, we did not exactly plan for it."

"Of course, dear. Though I must say, I am a bit jealous."

"Jealous?" Elicia questioned.

"You are both are so young. It took a while for Caleb and I to have Damion. And then he was fifteen before Bethany came around. Hopefully you two can have several kids close in age, so they can grow up together."

Damion wanted to hide behind box laden cart he was pushing while listening to his mother and Elicia talk. He never imagined his mother having such a conversation with a girl he brought home.

"We haven't really had a chance to talk about such things," Elicia told Sharon, feeling a bit embarrassed by the topic herself.

"Well, now that he can visit, you all will have plenty of time to talk about such things."

"I don't know how often I will be able to visit," Damion spoke up from behind the cart of boxes.

"You will visit whenever you can. Of that much I am sure. I don't know much about the life of an adventurer, but I know you. What really needs to be discussed is living arrangements. You may have that big fancy house, but if you aren't going to be there…"

"I know mother. I was not intending to ask any of you to move in with me. It would not be fair. Eventually, Mage Teft and I will be ready to start our school. When that time comes, we will need more than just single house in a hollowed-out hill."

"Good. But that doesn't mean you can't properly stock your house. I saw what you had in that kitchen. Just prepackaged field rations. No. Next stop is the grocery store. We will get you properly stocked to hold a weeklong feast."

"Won't most of that go to waste?" Damion asked after paying for their current load of goods and storing them in his personal spatial storage.

"Some might, but I think you should host a dinner. We can invite some of your friends and Helga."

"Mother, I shouldn't be bringing a lot of people to my secret house. It will raise suspicions."

"I am not saying to invite any dunderheads that you don't know. Just your personal friends and family. It will be fine, and I think it has been quite long enough since I have hosted a good dinner party."

Of course, Damion was more concerned with explaining how people would be reaching his home via Portal. Only a select few knew he had multiple affinities and if he did not have a way to explain his Spatial affinity, then there was a good chance his secret would be out.
