Fate of Mirithia [LitRPG, Isekai]

Chapter 259 – The Terror of Glacidrak

Meera wasn't too worried about the ice monsters' level; she had beaten many people around that level simultaneously. What worried her was how annoying it was to kill them. The first one alone had taken her many tries, and there were a dozen of them here.

She tightened her grip on her two level 2 chakrams. She waited for them to make the first move. The first one just dropped into the ice, making Meera frown.

The snow and ice shook beneath her feet. She had barely a moment to register as the wicked golem erupted out of the glacier beside her, punched her in the face, and sent her flying. A wicked pain exploded in her face, and it took her a moment to realize that her jaw was dislocated.

She rolled on the icy ground and was about to activate her healing skill when another ice golem shot out of the ground. This one came out of the ice right below her. Its head crashed into her back, and she felt something crack.

The pain was a secondary thought as another golem appeared and slammed his fist into her abdomen. All the air was ejected out of her lungs. She activated Greater Vitalize right away. And not a moment too soon, as the golem kicked her and sent her skidding on the ice.

Thank God that Greater Vitalize had stopped her pain, which let her think for a moment. Using her armor's ability, she littered the area with tiny mirrors. Then, she immediately used Mirror Step to teleport away.

She glared at the ice monsters as she recalled her chakrams. "That was a neat trick. Now, my turn."

She was about to use one of the mirrors to teleport away but noticed that they weren't there anymore. They were all gone. Either buried beneath the snow or swallowed up by the glacier.

All the ice golems dropped, and the ice began to rumble once more. She took to the air, knowing what the ice golems were planning, only for the glacier to split apart. Meera watched for any sign of movement, but there was nothing. No golem rose and no additional movement.

It got eerily silent. The only sound for miles was of the wind howling. Then an ice ball shot up from the crack, then another, followed by another. Before she knew it, there was a hail of ice balls from the glacier.

Meera did her best to dodge it, but it was like the reverse hail was following her. Wherever she flew, it followed her. An ice ball hit her ankle; her armor mostly absorbed the blow. Then, the size of the ice balls magnified. An ice ball the size of a boulder came at an angle for her.

She dodged it, but she flew straight into the hail storm and was pelted with ice balls. Her anger flared. She activated Druvis Might and punched the boulder, smashing it into bits. The hail slowed, but the number of boulders intensified.

She started punching them away until there was one that she couldn't punch through. It looked just like any other boulder, but when Meera punched it, her wrist broke, and her fingers bent at odd angles.

Meera screamed and activated Greater Vitalize once more. The boulder opened up to reveal one of the Glacidrak golems. It grabbed Meera by the arm so tightly that it broke her forearm in two. Another bloodcurdling scream escaped her throat, but it was cut short as the golem smashed Meera into the ice.

She tried to fly away, but an icy hand gripped her body and held her down. The golem that stood over her raised its fist, and a jagged, ice spike formed in its hand.

Meera activated Mirror Wrath but realized she didn't have any shard to detonate. So, instead, she activated Spectral Dominion and brought forth five shadow warriors.

The warriors knew what to do. All five hacked into the one that was about to impale Meera. Then she blasted the surroundings with tiny shards and teleported out of the golem's grip. Greater Vitalize was doing its job but not nearly fast enough for the situation she was in. She thrust her good hand into the belt, brought out a Health potion, and chugged it down.

Her bones mended, and her Health refilled instantly. The ice beneath her feet cracked open. She stumbled forward only to be locked into place by ice. She tried teleporting out of there, but her shards were gone once again. She gritted her teeth and was getting fed up with all this ice.

She activated Druvis Might and broke through the ice easily, but a spike shot out of the ice and impaled her right below the ribs. She gasped, but somehow, it had avoided her main organs. Another spike came for the back of her head, but she swayed to the side. But another speared her through the shoulder, followed by another that tore through her right arm.

One thing had become clear to her—she couldn't beat these guys all by her lonesome, especially not here, when they had the terrain advantage.

She shot a chakram into the air, teleported to it, and, using Mirror Bolt, flew out of there at full speed, but not before turning back and using Quaking Fist with a deadly amount of Mana.

The air itself quivered around her fist as she felt the vibrations shooting toward her enemy. The glacier cracked, as did all the golems that were out in the open. But she didn't hear any notifications, which meant they must've hidden themselves in the glacier's ice before Quaking Fist did any real damage.

The entire glacier shifted with her attack. Cracks raced outwards from the point of impact. She flew higher until she could see which direction she needed to travel to get back to civilization.

The cold and hopelessness had almost defeated her before these golems showed up, but they sealed the deal. There was no way she could carry on with these golems on her heels. It was almost as if the first one was there to learn of her attacks and patterns. The rest had brought overwhelming force to bear down on her. If she were anyone else, she would've been long dead by now.

It hurt her pride that she lost to a bunch of moving ice, but at least this way, she would live to fight another day.

I'll be back to melt you all into steam.

Meera's coat dripped blood onto the ice as she flew away. Her armor had closed around her wounds like it always did while Greater Vitalize worked to mend her body. She had half a mind to use another Health potion but decided to keep it for an emergency or if she ended up in another fight.

She scanned her surroundings, and the golems hadn't followed her, or it didn't look like they had. It was nothing but just regular old ice and snow and chilly winds. But that didn't mean she was safe.

If I were an ice monster that could melt into the ice, I wouldn't follow above ice.

She put them out of her mind and raced for the edge of the wasteland or the Pale Mantle. Once she was out of this place, she was safe. The sky was darkening. She had spent an entire day here and not even realized it. It was no wonder her armor couldn't block the cold anymore. She shivered as the chill wind seemed to penetrate her armor, and Meera would give anything for any little bit of warmth.

She wanted to use her Shadowflame Devastation skill again, but that was what had brought them down on her. She was sure of it. It was only after she had used the skill that the first one had shown itself. It was like a beacon to those things; she would not do that again.

Pretty soon, night fell, and the world plunged into darkness, but thanks to Mirrorbound Sight, she had no problem seeing in the dark. She paused briefly to drink a Mana potion and then kept going. Her body was trembling uncontrollably from the cold.

All she could think about was the cold. She couldn't feel her hands and feet anymore. She figured she must've had frostbite on various fingers and toes. She wondered if Greater Vitalize could heal frostbite. If not, she'd have to hack off the affected fingers and regrow them.

She shook her head and focused her mind elsewhere, and it went back to the fight that humiliated her. It was like she was a child who got bullied. All the confidence she had gained from becoming an Ascendant basically went down the drain. She could only wonder how strong they would become when they joined together. After all, it was in the name itself—The Splintered Glacidrak.

She shook her head, the shame burning hot on her face. Then she saw something that made her pause mid-flight. Off into the distance, almost right where this white wasteland ended and the cliff of the Pale Mantle began, was an orange light of a campfire.

Meera zoomed in with Mirrorbound Sight and nearly dropped to the icy ground. There was an igloo-like structure, although it resembled a hut, and outside the hut was a man sitting with his back to Meera. It wasn't the ice hut that surprised her, but the fire he was tending to. Even in the chill wind and ice, he somehow had a nice fire going.

A shiver went up her spine as the wind hit her. She could just imagine what that heat must've felt like. Without another thought, she blasted off towards the man and his fire. She wanted to go faster but could have gone faster; however, the wind was too cold, so she kept a steady pace. Her entire right hand had stopped moving, but she didn't care. Someone had a fire going, and even from miles away, she could feel its warmth calling to her.

Even at her speed, it still took her almost an hour to get somewhat close to the man. When she was close enough, she used Identify on him and stopped flying altogether.
