I shouldn't feel nervous.
The gate in front of me was tied to the second-floor boss. I was level four, and considering where my stats started, I had much better stats than the monster we were fighting. I pulled up the stat card for it one more time.
Giant Nature Slime - Level 3 - Nature
13 Power 11 Defense 9 Speed
4 Magic 10 Recovery 9 Aura
Skill: Bash, Slam
Charge: Slimed
Passive: Poison Immunity, Physical Resistance
Both of my clips were loaded with <Fire Shot>, and I'd be able to dump the spells the moment the fight started. This was the main one that we were going to have an issue with, but Fray had elemental powder to put on her sword, not that we were going to need it. Aelin had <Fire Arrow>, so I wasn't expecting this fight to last very long.
"Are we ready?" Ether looked at us as she hoisted the shield in her left hand and nodded at the swirling portal.
"After you." I motioned to her. The one thing I didn't like about boss rooms was how they were so dark when we first walked in. It was unnerving.
Total darkness greeted me as I walked in behind her.
"Atlas, here!" I called out as loud as I could. The portal also randomized where we came in. Considering we had a few seconds to get into place, it meant that teams had to have their coordination worked out ahead of time or else someone wouldn't be in place when the boss attacked. The possibility of a bad start was one of the biggest reasons why boss farming wasn't common.
"Fray, here."
"Aelin, here."
"Justia, here. Is that everyone?"
"We're good, Justia. Light it up!" Ether banged on her shield.
"Watch your eyes, LIGHT!"
I shielded my eyes as the cave we were in lit up from Justia's spell. Using an ability that could interact with another monster was the easiest way to start the fight. The other way was to let the timer count down, but I didn't know of anyone who wanted to sit in total darkness for a few minutes after the last person walked in.

A green mass of slime bubbled up through the rocks in the middle of the large room. The floor was composed of mostly rocks, with patches of dirt here and there. Moss was the predominant feature, though, and I had a feeling that slipping was one of the major factors that contributed to party wipes on this boss.
Not that we had to worry about that. I glanced over my shoulder at the almost invisible floating eyeball. Gesai was using a teaching aid to monitor our fight. If things took a bad turn, she'd break into the room and finish the boss off herself. The Dungeon would try to readjust the monster's level, but from what I'd read, if the teacher was fast enough and there was a high level difference, then it wouldn't level fast enough that the teacher still wouldn't be able to one-shot it.
The downside of doing something like that was that the Dungeon would lock the entire team out of the Dungeon for at least a day. The portal to the boss room would only connect to the surface, and it wouldn't let you back in. The more you did it, the longer the penalty. It became very prohibitive very fast, and it wasn't just the Dungeon that you did it in that locked you out. The portal would refuse to open for us even if we tried to go to the Dispatcher's Dungeon or the one in the Cathedral. There was a theory that all the Dungeons were connected, and it was all one huge construct, and this was one of the biggest reasons why it was viewed that way.
"LOOK AT ME!!!" Ether screamed her taunt the moment the core showed itself.
"Fire Arrows!" Aelin moved to her right to get out from behind the Tank and began rapid-firing flaming arrows into the ten-foot-tall blob of goo.
Fray moved left from behind Ether and sliced off the arms that grew out of the Giant Nature Slime and swiped at Ether's shield.
I pulled out my pistol and aimed at the core. The marble-sized object twisted around inside the mountain of slime, desperate to stay away from the burning magic Aelin was letting loose.
The boss caught on fire, burning as it flailed, its pair of arms never staying more than one for long.
As a group, we backed away as it slid towards our tank. The core was moving fast, but both Aelin and I had <Tracking>, so it was a little over a minute before I clipped the core, knocking it into the path of one of Aelin's arrows.
The whole monster collapsed on the floor as the core shattered.
Gesai clapped her hands as she walked in. "Giant slimes can be tough because you need to use the right magic against them. Unlike other monsters, which have vulnerable organs, the slime only has a core. Great job in focusing it down." She turned to Ether and Fray. "Good job holding its attention." She motioned at the floor where the body of the monster had dissolved. "Grab your loot and let's go to the next one."
"What'd we get?" Aelin ran over to Fray, who was picking up the loot.
The green woman handed the boss crystal over the Ether, then held up a green hood that looked like it had been made out of hardened slime.
"Slime Hood." She grimaced. "It gives a Power."
"That's yours…" Aelin flicked her blonde ponytail. "Isn't it going to stick to your hair?"
Fray shrugged and put it in her inventory. "I've already got a leather hood." She tugged on the chinstrap. "I think this one is just as good as that, without being sticky and transparent."
"We can sell it or use it to enhance something else." I waved them on. "Let's go. The other fights should be just as easy."
