Binjiang Police Affairs

Chapter 418: Inescapable!

I had thought that once the typhoon made landfall at East Guang, its impact on the Jiangnan Sea area would gradually lessen.

However, contrary to our hopes, the winds grew even fiercer, reaching force eight, and the Fishery Administration Ship was tossed about by the raging waves.

Xu Mingyuan, Fang Zhiqiang, Xiao Yu, and the Border Guards from the San Zao Port Police Station couldn't hold out any longer. They were hit with severe seasickness, vomiting until they were completely disoriented. Only Salted Fish, Captain Wu, and other crew members, along with a few ship captains, seemed unaffected. They reorganized tasks and took turns on duty.

For twenty-seven straight hours, the wind and waves at sea did not cease.

At dawn today, the violent winds finally abated, and the waves calmed down. The radar indicated that there were no other vessels moving within a dozen nautical miles.

Han Yu went down to see his exhausted senior and junior fellow disciples, Xiao Yu, and others, and ordered them to rest adrift. He himself sat down in front of the radar, his eyes bloodshot, staring intently at the screen.

"Salted Fish, a telegram."

"Oh."

Han Yu took the telegram and was about to call Captain Wu over when Xiao Yu, just recovering, squeezed in and asked, "Salted Fish, what did the superiors say?"

After reading the message from his old unit's director and the current unit's Political Commissioner, Han Yu nonchalantly reported, "Captain Pei has gone ahead of us. Three patrol boats from the East Sea Coast Guard returned safely to base four hours ago. The weather here is calm, but conditions near She Island are still rough. The landing and transportation boats from Wusong Port Navy base cannot approach the island. Director Shi will have to rest on the island for a few more days."

"East Guang's Coast Guard has run ahead of us!"

"Their sailing speed is faster than ours and their route isn't as winding as ours, so it's quite normal for them to be ahead of us."

Captain Wu picked up a ruler and measured on the sea chart, marking the position of the Coast Guard 3201 boat with a pen, and sat saying, "They're about seventy nautical miles from us."

Xiao Yu couldn't help but ask, "What do we do now?"

Instead of answering, Han Yu picked up a walkie-talkie: "Captain Chen, Captain Chen, this is Han Yu, can you hear me?"

An old Civilian Soldier in his fifties playing cards in the crew's cabin quickly picked up the walkie-talkie: "I hear you, Captain Han, what's up?"

"Captain Chen, if you were the ship captain of a smuggling boat, where do you think you would be by now?"

The old Civilian Soldier put down his playing cards, glanced at his fellow card players, hesitated, and said, "If it were us sailing, we would have left Lu Port the night before last, and by now we should be around this area."

Han Yu stroked his chin and asked, "I would estimate the latitude to be about the same, but what about the longitude? Do you think they could be to the east?"

The ship captain thought for a while and said confidently, "They shouldn't venture far east; going further east could easily bring them into contact with large ocean-going vessels. Now it's a fishing moratorium, and the wind has just stopped. They're too close to the shipping lanes frequently used by merchant ships, and could easily be spotted by them."

"Understood, thank you."

"Do you want me to come up and keep watch for a bit?"

"No need, keep playing your game."

Han Yu put down the walkie-talkie and looked up, "Uncle Wu, let everyone rest for another half hour, ring the bell at 9:40 to prepare to sail, and continue to patrol and search according to the original plan."

"Alright." Captain Wu nodded, voicing no objections.

While they were speaking, it was time for the meal.

Han Yu got up and went to the small dining room with Xiao Yu. Just as he was about to fill his food tray, Captain Wu's voice came over the loudspeaker.

"Salted Fish, Salted Fish, the radar shows two bright spots to our starboard rear, the radar shows two bright spots to our starboard rear!"

"Behind us..."

Han Yu came to his senses, and without greeting his elder and junior disciples who had come over for a meal with great effort, dropped his food tray and ran to the bridge.

Captain Wu stood in front of the radar, and the sailor operating the radar quickly stood up to make room.

Han Yu leaned over and stared at the radar, asking urgently, "Have you made calculations?"

"It's calculated." The sailor handed over a scribbled piece of draft paper, excitedly reported, "Eleven nautical miles away, heading true north, speed eight knots!"

Captain Wu, arms crossed, laughingly said, "They look like fishing boats, they're probably fishing boats."

Han Yu glanced at his watch and turned to say, "Uncle Wu, sound the bell to prepare for sailing, let's go take a look."

"Okay."

Captain Wu turned to press the bell switch, and the jingling sound of the preparation bell broke the silence on the ship. The sailors who were on night duty and deep in their sleep immediately threw off their blankets, put on their clothes, and took their respective positions.

The six old Civilian Soldiers also unanimously dropped their playing cards, donned life jackets, and rushed up to the bridge.

By the time Xu Mingyuan, Fang Zhiqiang, and Xiao Yu arrived, the bridge was already crowded.

The main and auxiliary engines of the Fishery Administration Ship were quickly activated. Captain Wu stood in front of the helm issuing commands, while the Helmsman followed orders to adjust the ship's course.

Han Yu then turned to ask, "Director Liu, Captain Xu, considering the two targets we just discovered are likely the smuggling boats we intend to intercept, you guys had severe seasickness last night, have you recovered, can you participate in the operation later?"

"I've recovered, no problem!"

"Director Yu, we're okay, we can join the operation."

"Good, please hurry to eat and prepare for the operation afterward. Looking at our current speed and course, we should encounter them in about an hour."

"Yes!"

"Captain Chen, your experience at sea is the most extensive, and we'll count on you later on. Please also hurry to get ready."

"Okay, don't worry."

...

With a command from Han Yu, the public security police, Border Guards, Fishery Administration personnel, and Civilian Soldiers all sprang into action.

Each and every one of them who would go on deck had to wear a life jacket. The police and Border Guards hurriedly checked guns and ammunition, the Fishery Administration Ship's sailors prepared ropes, lifebuoys, and bamboo poles, while the six old Civilian Soldiers rushed to their designated positions and repeatedly briefed Xu Mingyuan, Fang Zhiqiang, Xiao Yu, and Director Liu on the precautions for boarding later on.

On the radar, the two bright spots became clearer and clearer.

"Captain Wu, the two boats are moving at ten knots, deviating from our course."

"Speed up!"

Captain Wu issued the order, the main engine power was increased to eighty percent, and the Fishery Administration Ship surged forward at a speed of twenty-six knots, creating a long trail of white foam in its wake.

In front of Captain Wu, Han Yu neither dared nor needed to show off his skills; he simply stood in front of the steering console, holding a pair of binoculars, observing the calm sea.

About an hour later, the shapes of two boats in the distance could be made out clearly.

Han Yu put down the binoculars, bent over to look at Xu Mingyuan, Fang Zhiqiang, Xiao Yu, and the others who were ready on deck, confirmed that everyone was prepared, and then turned on the loudspeaker, handing the megaphone to Director Liu.

Director Liu took the megaphone, took a few deep breaths, and shouted: "We are the Border Police Defense from China, the fishing boat ahead please stop for inspection! We are the Border Police Defense from China, the fishing boat ahead please stop for inspection!"

The high-volume speaker suddenly blared out, and Director Liu's shouts spread across the sea.

Han Yu again lifted the binoculars and could clearly see the fishing boat in chaos; some people were rushing those who were on the deck for fresh air to quickly hide in the cabins, while others were glancing over at the Fishery Administration Ship, looking panicked.

At the same time, chimneys on both fishing boats suddenly emitted puffs of black smoke, obviously speeding up.

There's no mistake, it must be them...

Han Yu's blood boiled with excitement, just as he was thinking that they had finally found them, he heard Captain Wu order, "Full throttle, pursue at top speed!"

"Yes!"

The Fishery Administration Ship, like an unsheathed sword, pointed straight at the two fishing boats desperately trying to escape.

Maritime law enforcement is theoretically under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard, and in the absence of the Coast Guard, the Border Police Defense calls the shots.

Director Liu from the San Zao Port Police Station was even more agitated than Han Yu, gripping the megaphone tightly and shouting: "Fishing boats ahead, listen, we are the Border Police Defense from China, you can't get away, I command you to stop immediately for inspection! I command you to stop immediately for inspection!"

The two fishing boats could definitely hear, but they ignored the warnings and continued their desperate escape.

Director Liu grew angry, turned off the megaphone, and picked up the walkie-talkie: "Xiao Xu, fire warning shots!"

The squad leader of the Armed Police standing at the bow along with Xiao Yu received the order and immediately raised the Type 81, rattling off three bursts of fire into the air above the fishing boats, the crisp sound of gunfire echoing over the sea.

Xiao Yu could clearly see the two fishing boats suddenly pause as if stung by wasps, then veer left and right, splitting apart, attempting to flee in separate directions.

So cunning!

Han Yu cursed inwardly and decisively took over command, ordering, "Captain Wu, intercept the one on the right first!"

"Roger."

"Uncle Wang, would you keep an eye on the radar and lock on to the left one."

"Got it!"

Captain Wu personally took the helm, following Han Yu's order, turned the ship's head to the left and swung around to intercept. Han Yu quickly ran up to the deck, putting on gloves and keeping a close watch on the frantically fleeing fishing boat.

Closer!

Even closer!

As the two ships brushed past each other, Han Yu, Xu Mingyuan, Xiao Yu, Fang Zhiqiang, and four Armed Police soldiers leapt onto the fishing boat with lightning speed, while the three elder Civilian Soldiers, despite their age, moved more nimbly than them and ran along the gunwale before jumping aboard.

Everyone boarded the fishing boat and, as planned, rushed towards the steering cabin and the front cabin.

"Don't move, stop the boat now!"

"Get down, hands on your head!"

"Hands on your head, everyone get down, do you hear me?"

Before receiving the confirmed information on the suspects' organization of human smuggling from Lu Port, Han Yu had boarded the Fishery Administration Ship and set out to sea, only knowing the suspects' names, ages, and general physical characteristics through telegrams sent from superior leadership, without knowing their exact appearance.

He was about to ask the names of the two people who were just subdued by the three senior brothers and an Armed Police soldier when he heard an Armed Police soldier in front shout, "Director Yu, everyone is in the cabin!"

"On my way!"

There was no rush to question the suspects; making sure of the smuggled individuals' status was the first priority.

Han Yu put away his gun and ran to the foredeck, where two Armed Police soldiers had already opened the tightly sealed hatch of the bow cabin, releasing a suffocating stench. Covering his nose, he looked down and saw the cabin packed with people sitting on the floor, men and women, all looking frightened and anxious.

"Captain Han, there are also people in the aft cabin!"

"Coming!"

An Armed Police soldier, with the help of two elder Civilian Soldiers, opened the aft hatch, and Han Yu came over to see that the cabin was in chaos, with the smuggled individuals packed like sardines, their bodies and even faces covered in seasickness vomit, emitting a sour smell.

"Director Yu, here are two who seem to have fainted from heatstroke and dehydration!"

"Captain Xu, leave this side to you, keep an eye on the suspects."

"Yes!"

"Captain Zhang, hurry up and sail, join Captain Wu in chasing the other one."

"All right."

"Xiao Yu, don't just stand there watching, help me rescue people!"

Who would believe that each cabin, with a cramped space of only about five square meters, was crammed with more than twenty smuggled individuals?

It must be known that during sailing, the temperature inside the cabin can reach around forty degrees, and so many smuggling individuals were just stuffed in like cargo by the ruthless Snake Head, enduring untold hardships!

Xiao Yu was secretly shocked, and at Han Yu's reminder, he quickly handed his gun to an Armed Police soldier, carefully jumped into the cabin, and carried the fainted smugglers up to the deck...

While everyone was busy "rescuing the injured," Director Liu's shouting and warning shots once again came from the sea.

Han Yu stood up and looked toward the front left, only to see the Fishery Administration Ship had caught up with the second fishing boat.

Perhaps realizing that this one had been controlled by the Border Guards, or perhaps understanding that escape was futile, the second fishing boat was slowing down, apparently planning to surrender for inspection.

"Salted Fish, this person looks like they're in bad shape!"

"Hurry up and perform artificial respiration; you know how."

Xiao Yu looked at the smuggled individual covered in vomit, on their body and even on their face. Hesitating for a moment, he used his sleeve to wipe the individual's mouth, then pried open their mouth and, holding back disgust, bent down to start...
