Armor-Piercing Munition: Face Me, Carbon-Based Monster!

Chapter 247: Bridgehead (Part 2)

"How many are there in total?"

"Based on the current aerial reconnaissance intelligence, five in total."

Ji Xing immediately responded:

"But that is just the intelligence we can see."

"Level-one monsters are unpredictable in both form and behavior."

"We need to reserve a margin of at least one or two."

"Understood."

Chen Jian pulled up a map on his smart glasses and marked the locations of the level-one monsters.

After a moment of silent contemplation, he spoke:

"Relying solely on us won't be enough."

"Even with nuclear bombs, we can't clear out all the monsters."

"In fact, our nuclear strike capability is one-time use; the cooldown period is too long, so it must be reserved for final deterrence."

"Therefore, we are likely to consider using conventional means to kill those monsters."

"We need more equipment, weapons, and logistical support."

"We also need more combat personnel and engineering staff."

"This issue will be handed over to Lei Jie to resolve."

"The forward base in Mountain City has been established."

"Next....."

"It's time for large-scale reinforcements."

"Notify Lei Jie to synchronize plans with us."

"Within three days, I want a bridgehead established on the ground of Mountain City!"

As the words fell, Ji Xing solemnly saluted.

"Understood!"

...

A few minutes later, inside Base 011.

Lei Jie had just received the message from Chen Jian, and he wasn't surprised at all by the decisions Chen Jian made.

What reconnaissance, what just taking a look and leaving.

It's all fake.

He knew all along, as long as Chen Jian went over, he was determined to take down Mountain City with all his might.

And now, the unspoken assumption proved true.

He started requiring preparations for the "Mountain City Offensive".

Eradicating all level-one monsters?

This sounds almost like an impossible mission.

But...

Might give it a try?

The only problem is, how to deliver the equipment and personnel needed by Chen Jian to Mountain City within three days.

Current transport aircraft can barely manage personnel delivery; even if personnel aren't capable of parachuting, the wide roads in Mountain City can accommodate takeoff and landing operations.

But if it's equipment, it's not so simple.

The largest payload of the bomber currently in service at Base 011 is only 1.2 tons, whereas the 152mm howitzer, just the barrel alone, weighs 1.1 tons. Even without considering the transportation difficulty due to cannon size, delivering it to Mountain City is a huge problem.

Needless to say, the delivery mission faces a massive paradox.

To deliver heavy equipment to Mountain City, we need to first open a ground passage to Mountain City.

But to open the ground passage, heavy equipment must be delivered first.

How to solve this?

Lei Jie frowned, sitting in the combat command room, first examining the progress charts of various projects within the base, looking for usable equipment.

But soon he found that, given the current project schedule, it was simply impossible to meet Chen Jian's deadline of "three days".

The production plan for the next-generation, larger-capacity transport aircraft was scheduled after the machine shop, which could only be constructed after the piston engine was completed.

The airship had already been initiated, but twelve days remained before completion.

The improved version of the Mosquito Bomber couldn't undertake such a transport mission; even if the number of sorties increased, time needed for battery replacement and supplies couldn't achieve timely delivery.

Moreover, once sorties increase, task risks rise alongside.

If delivery operations are carried out at the cost of losing bombers and valuable pilots, it would hardly be worthwhile.

Upon reviewing all projects, Lei Jie couldn't help but sigh.

He slightly closed his eyes, rubbed his somewhat swollen forehead, and repeatedly went through the resources at hand in his mind.

But soon he realized that delivering into the interior was a dead end.

It was unfeasible.

After a moment of silence, Lei Jie spoke:

"Fu Xi."

"Help me analyze the feasibility, assuming no reliance on heavy equipment and only using light weapons, of a 40-person team eliminating a level-one monster."

"Understood."

Fu Xi's voice sounded from above.

"Due to the current lack of information on the level-one monsters surrounding Mountain City, the current evaluation result has low credibility."

"But based on previous combat experience and the traits of 'Whale Catfish' monsters, I believe that without heavy weapon support, our victory rate against level-one monsters is less than 1%."

"1%?"

Lei Jie was stunned.

That low?

He originally thought that even without heavy weapon support, the success rate would at least maintain above 50%.

If that's the case.....theoretically, it might be worth a gamble.

But with just 1%?

No way.

If things don't work out, there's only one route to go.

Brave the risk of losses and transport some equipment first.

Then, use nuclear bombs to flatten the surroundings, open up the passage, and launch a coordinated attack from the perimeter.

But if that's the case, the work at Base 011 would be interrupted.

The industrial development process would be pushed back by at least two months.

But it is an unavoidable cost.

Lei Jie silently made up his mind.

However, just as he was about to issue a command to Fu Xi, Fu Xi's voice suddenly sounded again.

"Commander, we might have another option available."

At the sound of the words, Lei Jie instinctively raised his head.

"Another option?"

"Let's hear it."

"Delivering a large amount of equipment from outside inward is indeed unfeasible, both from a cost-effectiveness and risk perspective."

"However, we don't necessarily need to directly transport weapons to Mountain City."

"On the ground of Mountain City, there are already a lot of usable weapons."

As soon as these words were spoken, Lei Jie's heart leaped.

It was a sudden enlightenment.

Exactly, the ground of Mountain City lacks only living facilities, not weapons!

A large number of deployed microwave and laser devices were only damaged by the electromagnetic pulse from the nuclear detonation, but that doesn't mean they're completely scrapped!

If enough spare parts and tools can be delivered to Mountain City and with Fu Xi's guidance, it's entirely possible to repair those weapons to a usable state!

Lei Jie immediately became energetic.

"Are you capable of repairing the laser weapons within Mountain City?"

"With a stable image transmission, there shouldn't be much problem."

Receiving Fu Xi's reply, Lei Jie abruptly stood up.

"Let's do it that way!"

"Forget transporting weapons, we'll just make them right above their heads!"

"I'll immediately notify the captain to locate the weapons for disassembly, and once the images return, you'll conduct damage analysis."

"After manufacturing spare parts in the shortest time, we'll depart immediately, delivering personnel and spare parts synchronously!"

"Understood."

Fu Xi replied concisely, but then, Lei Jie suddenly spoke again:

"Wait."

"There's another issue."

"We can't utilize the existing energy equipment in Mountain City."

"The power supply is definitely cut off, and currently has been cut off."

"We still need to establish a stable energy supply...considering the power consumption of laser weapons..."

"What power generation packages do we have available?"

"The most suitable is a micro nuclear reactor."

Fu Xi responded:

"For other power generation plans, whether fuel or equipment delivery, requires substantial payload consumption."

"Only micro nuclear reactors can meet the energy consumption requirements of microwave and laser weapons with limited total weight."

"But we don't have a nuclear reactor either."

Lei Jie frowned and said:

"Reactor production isn't a simple task, the construction period is too long, the captain and his team can't wait..."

"They won't have to wait too long."

Fu Xi interrupted Lei Jie.

Then, it spoke:

"In fact, this plan had already been initiated."

"Hidden Water Cave Nuclear Power Station."

"According to the archives, there still resides the most advanced domestic matrix of micro thorium molten salt reactors there."

"And possibly, the reactors there are still intact."

"The expeditionary force is on its way to Hidden Water Cave."

"If we complete the removal of the micro reactor there...we can even directly deliver the reactors from Hidden Water Cave to Mountain City."

"Alright!"

The congestion in Lei Jie's chest was completely relieved.

He waved his hand vigorously and commanded:

"Let's proceed in that way!"
