Monsters Are Coming

Chapter 182: Ruined World God's Salvation (Part 4)

Blackie bumped shoulders with Goldie standing beside him, looking fearful.

"What are you thinking?" Goldie swallowed again, his gaze fixed on the surveillance screen, yet he responded.

"I'm thinking, if this crisis is quelled, I must eat all the cookies I couldn't bear to eat last time. I've suddenly realized the greatest regret of my life would be passing on with cookies left uneaten."

"I thought it was something serious; if we survive this crisis, I'll gift you a pack of treasured delicacies, only expired for two years."

Blackie was greatly astonished upon hearing this:

"Expired for two years, where did you get them?"

"They were given by the group of wanderers we helped last time. They supposedly once took over a food production factory, so the food they have was produced relatively recently."

"Why didn't they give me any?" Blackie suddenly widened his eyes.

"Because you're ugly."

Their lighthearted banter somewhat alleviated their tense mood.

After a brief exchange, Blackie and Goldie once again turned their gaze towards the large surveillance screen.

The zombie horde was already halfway through, and Special Species zombies appeared one after another, but no unexpected events occurred.

Their moods fluctuated every time a Special Species zombie appeared.

At this moment, a Special Species zombie over three meters tall appeared in the surveillance footage.

Less than a hundred meters from the fortress, it suddenly crawled on the ground, following the imperceptible pheromones trailing towards the fortress. When it was less than thirty meters away, it launched itself, sending the surrounding Immortal Zombies flying, insanely ramming into the metal door.

The crisis emerged suddenly and unexpectedly.

Bang!

A loud noise accompanied the trembling of the metal door.

All the Immortal Zombies in the surveillance footage raised their heads following this loud noise.

The orderly advancing zombie horde was disrupted by the commotion.

Bang!

The second crash resounded.

The metal door showered rust powder from the impact, screeching sharply at the edges.

Even the Immortal Zombies that had wandered far stopped their aimless steps at this moment, a bloodthirsty gleam emerging in their clouded eyes, all turning towards the fortress in unison.

Soon after, roaring voices erupted in succession, all Immortal Zombies turned towards the fortress sanctuary.

During this, they shoved and wriggled against each other, recklessly rushing towards the metal door.

Apart from the door, even the walls became targets of attack.

Immortal Zombies, lacking intelligence, could only locate the target's exact position through the pheromones provided by other Immortal Zombies.

They had no concept of "doors"; any obstacles in their path became targets for attack.

For a moment, the roaring of Immortal Zombies, chaotic footsteps, and sounds of bodily collision intertwined, forming a terrifying symphony of death.

Warriors within the fortress turned pale from the sudden crisis.

They realized the gravity of the situation.

Now that the pheromones had spread, all Immortal Zombies were ferociously attacking, not stopping until the entire fortress was destroyed and they were slaughtered completely.

During this time, other passing Immortal Zombies would join this mad onslaught.

Given the condition of the metal door, it's unlikely it will hold out for long.

Instantly thrown into despair, all warriors had a look of hopelessness in their eyes.

The fortress recorded numerous historical events, with some brought by warriors fleeing from other regions, who had documented scenes of sanctuaries being surrounded by Immortal Zombies, with the relentless assault never ceasing.

Looking up at the large screen.

Immortal Zombies didn't feel pain, nor did they tire, relentlessly crashing against concrete walls.

Parts of the wall already showed fine cracks, exposing the metal sheets beneath as the wall skin peeled off.

During this process, less physically fit Immortal Zombies shattered during collisions, their black blood and flesh splattering everywhere, yet they didn't cease their destruction of the walls.

"Prepare for combat!"

The elderly leader roared, then quickly walked to the control console, pressing a red button.

Instantly, red lights illuminated various regions within the fortress, above the metal door extended two flamethrowers, spewing flames roasting the Special Species and the Immortal Zombies beside it.

But the high-temperature flame offensive didn't cause even a moment's pause in the Special Species' assault; even when its body ignited, it continued ramming the metal door relentlessly.

The leader then looked at the warriors steadfastly awaiting, their expressions despairing, and spoke in a deep voice:

"I know you're afraid, I am too. Facing death, no one can remain composed, but..."

The leader paused, his gaze sweeping over every face:

"We still have the right to choose!"

"We can choose to give up, waiting to be torn apart by Immortal Zombies, or use our lives to defend the dignity of humanity. We mustn't lose the courage to resist; even if there's a glimmer of hope, we must try to break through."

"When the door is breached, all warriors protect the non-combat personnel in breaking through, for your families, fight with all you've got!"

The sound of weapons being chambered echoed consecutively.

"All members, prepare for combat, use your bullets to tell these monsters, we will never surrender."

After speaking, the already white-haired leader came to the forefront of the team, raising his modified weapon.

The weapon's design resembled a steel giant beast, six modified barrels arranged in a circle, each specially treated, with a bluish sheen on the surface. The gun's body, reconstructed from materials from discarded vehicles, had thick heat sinks covering the entire gun body like scales.

Soon, the non-combat personnel underground began to gather in the hall.
