Awakening: I Became a Legendary Spirit Summoner

Chapter 63: Testing Spirit Fusion

Karl stared at the message hovering in front of him, his heartbeat quickening in anticipation.

[You are about to fuse "Alpha Whip Wolf" and "Nature Wolf."]

[The spirit you will get is currently unknown. Do you want to proceed?]

"Yes," Karl confirmed without hesitation.

His voice was steady, but deep down, excitement buzzed through him.

This was his first time attempting Spirit Fusion, and he was eager to see the result.

The moment he gave his confirmation, a surge of energy erupted from his palms.

The two wolves before him shimmered, their forms distorting into streaks of silver and emerald light.

The fusion process had begun.

The air around them crackled, charged with raw power.

The Alpha Whip Wolf's muscular frame twisted, its whip-like tail unraveling into fluid strands of light, while the Nature Wolf's verdant aura expanded, wrapping around it like living vines.

Runes flickered to life in the air, glowing with an otherworldly brilliance as the two spirits were drawn together by an invisible force.

A sudden pulse of energy sent a shockwave through the area, forcing Karl to take a step back as the swirling lights collapsed inward.

The two wolves were no longer separate beings—only a shifting mass of silver and green remained, twisting and reshaping itself into something entirely new.

Then, with one final, blinding flash—

A massive wolf landed before him.

Its claws dug into the ground, sending small cracks through the stone beneath its feet.

A low, resonating growl rumbled from its throat, powerful and commanding.

Karl's breath hitched.

The beast's fur was a deep forest green, but within it ran veins of shimmering gold, pulsing in slow, rhythmic waves as though alive.

It was larger than the Alpha Whip Wolf had ever been, yet its form was sleek, built for both power and speed.

The most striking change, however, was its tail.

No longer a simple whip, nor the vines of the Nature Wolf—it had become something far more formidable.

A set of long, thorn-covered tendrils extended behind the creature, moving with eerie fluidity, coiling and uncoiling like living serpents, each bristling with sharp thorns that gleamed under the dim light.

Its emerald eyes locked onto Karl, filled with intelligence far beyond that of a simple beast.

A system message materialized before him.

[Spirit Fusion Complete! Your new spirit has been created.]

[You have obtained: Verdant Dreadwolf (Rare)]

Karl blinked.

"Rare?" he muttered under his breath.

This was new.

Until now, his spirits had never been categorized like this.

He had always assumed they were either Normal or Boss-tier, but this new Rare classification suggested a new level of strength that the system itself recognized.

Thinking back to his Evolution Path ability, he recalled seeing some spirits marked with the word Special in their highest possible evolution.

Could there be more categories?

Special might be one, but could there also be another beyond it?

Regardless, he could think about that later.

Right now, Karl was more than satisfied with what he had gained.

His new spirit radiated strength, and he could already tell that it would be invaluable in battle.

"Phew..." he exhaled, glancing at his other summons.

They, too, had noticed the new arrival, watching curiously as the Verdant Dreadwolf stood among them.

Some of them approached cautiously, sniffing at their new companion, but the Dreadwolf didn't seem the least bit hostile.

Instead, it flicked its whip-like tails playfully, causing a few of the smaller summons to jump back in surprise.

Karl couldn't help but smirk.

So it was a social one.

Now that he had seen what Spirit Fusion could do, an idea struck him.

If combining two weaker summons could produce something far stronger, then why stop here?

The stronger his summons were, the lower the chances of them dying in combat.

And if that meant having fewer summons overall but each one being significantly more powerful, it was more than worth it.

He immediately pulled up his list of summons to see what other potential fusions he could attempt.

[Summons: Frenzied Rabbit (Frappy), Alpha Dire Wolf, Verdant Dreadwolf, Dire Fox, Shadow Golem, Sovereign Wolf (Sovaryn), Golem Warrior, Elite Lizard Soldier, Shadow Assassin Lizard, Infested Skeleton, Ghoul Zombie, Frosted Mantis]

Looking at the names, a few potential combinations immediately stood out.

But as he began experimenting, something unexpected happened.

When he tried to fuse the Shadow Assassin Lizard with the Elite Lizard Soldier, the system denied the request.

[Spirits are compatible, but as of now, Boss-type spirits cannot be fused.]

"Huh," Karl muttered.

He tried again, this time with the Sovereign Wolf.

Same result.

He frowned, rubbing his chin.

So Boss-tier summons couldn't be fused—at least not right now.

That was disappointing, but also raised another question.

Why?

Did they need to reach a certain level first?

Or was there some kind of special condition required?

He pushed the thought aside for now.

There was still plenty to experiment with.

However, not all spirits were compatible.

Even though both were undead, the Infested Skeleton and Ghoul Zombie weren't able to fuse, which made Karl pause.

Was it their names?

Their species?

Or something else entirely?

After several minutes of testing, he finally managed to find two successful combinations.

First, the Shadow Golem and the Golem Warrior.

[Initiating Spirit Fusion…]

A surge of dark energy engulfed both summons as they merged together.

A few moments later, a new spirit emerged.

[+Duskforged Golem (Rare)]

A towering, black-armored golem stood before him, its stone body laced with pulsing purple veins of shadow.

It wielded a massive, jagged axe, dark energy rippling along its edge.

Karl grinned.

This one looked brutal.

The second successful fusion was between the Alpha Dire Wolf and the Dire Fox.

"These aren't even from the same species, but they both have Dire in their names," Karl noted, initiating the fusion regardless.

The result was just as impressive.

[+Dire Duskfang]

A sleek, black-furred beast emerged, its form a perfect blend of raw power and agility.

Crimson streaks glowed along its fur, and shadowy mist curled from its fangs as it exhaled.

Its eyes gleamed with an unsettling intelligence.

"Damn," Karl muttered.

This was turning out even better than he had expected.

With these fusions complete, he checked his summon capacity.

[Summon Cemetery: 10/50]

The number of summons had decreased, but he didn't mind.

What he had now was far stronger than before.

Satisfied, Karl let out a deep breath.

"You guys can do whatever you want for now," he told his spirits, watching as they began socializing with their new teammates.

Then, closing his eyes, he whispered, "Spirit Cemetery."

When he opened them again, he was back in his dorm room, sitting on his bed.

Beside him, Celeste was scrolling through her Smartwatch, completely unaware of his return—until he spoke.

"Hey."

She nearly jumped, startled, but quickly recovered, her eyes lighting up with curiosity.

"You're back," she said, setting her Smartwatch aside.

"So? What did you get?"

Karl smirked.

"You're gonna love this."

As he explained his new abilities, Celeste listened intently, her expression shifting from curiosity to outright awe.

By the time he was done, she leaned back with a long, impressed whistle.

"Wow," she breathed.

"That's… insanely powerful."

Karl chuckled.

"I know."

A mischievous glint appeared in her eyes.

"So… did you try it?"

Karl stretched.

"Couldn't test Evolution Path yet since my level's too low. But Spirit Fusion…"

Celeste leaned forward eagerly.

"Yeah? What did you get?"

He grinned.

"You'll see tomorrow on the fifth floor."

Celeste pouted but didn't argue.

She knew he was right—summoning his new spirits here would be way too risky.

Instead, the two spent the rest of the night planning their strategy for the fifth floor.

Tomorrow, they would finally attempt to clear the Tower's Tutorial.
