Chapter 440: The Eldest Daughter Has Matured

When Baiyi saw Lady Assassin Walker grinning at him like a crazy person, he shook his head helplessly, sighing. Opening his palms, he said, “Well?”
However, The stubborn Lady Assassin Walker shook her head sideways and turned her face away, intent on ignoring him.
Exasperated, Baiyi exclaimed, “Can I expect the eldest one to discipline the younger ones?”
“I hear you!” Lady Assassin Walker switched places with the Fairy Walker. She smiled and leaned on Baiyi before planting a kiss on his face mask.
There was nothing more…
“Where’s the Law Fragment?” An expression of confusion appeared on Baiyi’s face mask.
“How should I know? You’re the only who has seen that thing before,” the Fairy Walker said, shrugging. “We don’t even know how to handle it.”
“Why are you here, then?” Baiyi asked, his voice breaking the awkward silence that had begun to form.
“To kiss you, duh! Hee hee~” The Fairy grinned[1] before switching places with the Warrior Walker.
Unlike the last two, the Warrior Walker did not appear with a smile. She stared daggers at Baiyi for a moment before turning away; it was evident she was mad. She got up from the seat beside Baiyi and walked over to Mia, pulling the younger into a hug.
Mia had been playing with Little Anna, as she did not have anything to contribute to Baiyi’s discussion. Mia treated Little Anna as though as she were a cute, little doll, rubbing her cheeks hard against the little girl’s. Little Anna, who seemed to enjoy it, was doing the same to Mia. If one were watching the two, the person would almost be able to perceive the heartwarming scent of lilies. [2]
“Huh? What’s the matter, Big Sister Warrior?” A confused Mia asked the Warrior Walker, who had her in a tight embrace.
“All that heartless knave cares about is power, knowledge, or whatever! Other than his ‘great work’, what else is there for him to love? Do you understand? Men like him cannot be depended on to understand us or remember us; hence, from now on, we’ll have to fend for ourselves and each other,” the Warrior Walker murmured sadly as she gently caressed Mia’s hair. The scene seemed to portray both women as a mother and daughter pair who had just been abandoned.
‘Everyone here is busy, yet you choose to throw a tantrum for no reason? You even dragged the kid into it,’ Baiyi thought, sighing.
“Ugh! I’ll ignore her for now and coax her out of it later,” Baiyi decided and turned back the Scholar Walker and the others. “So, what about you guys? Did you find that Law Fragment?”
They shook their heads sideways at the same time. It was as though they had collectively forgotten to retrieve the most important item from the Grandruler, and this left Baiyi greatly dismayed.
“Well, since the Grandruler has been finished off, the story of Duat should be over for the time being, yes? What happened to other areas being affected by his invasion? Are they bad?” Baiyi asked. “There’s something else I noticed, too; why are there so many Voidwalkers here present now? I don’t recall seeing that many of you before I left for Duat with the other. when I left!”
When Baiyi left for Duat, with five Voidwalkers, the Voidwalkers he left behind at Da Xue were Archmage Walker, the Alchemist Walker, the Paladin Walker, and two others. Moments before Baiyi was forcefully teleported to another universe, he had forcefully summoned the Archmage Walker and took the Voidwalker with him. Hence, they should be even fewer Voidwalkers present.
Now, however, there were more Voidwalker sitting in the room. Even the Knight Walker — a Voidwalker who hardly made an appearance — was seated at the corner of the room with Attie and Mordred. He looked to be divulging some secrets of swordsmanship to them. [3]
“You may benefit from this revelation,” the Scholar Walker said as she passed Baiyi a new memory.
After Baiyi had watched it, he realized that when the Grandruler was annihilated, its army of undead showed no signs of retreating. They had invaded a lot of settlements in Isythre, causing the death tool to skyrocket.
When Baiyi invaded Duat, the Grandruler realized that it had lost the element of surprise and sent its undead army to attack Isythre. The undead army invaded towns and villages that were not properly protected. The slain residents became undead and joined the invading undead army; it was a cruel strategy. Many towns and settlements quickly became graveyards filled with undead. Whenever the undead army attacked a town, their numbers would increase before they move on to the next town, as the inhabitants of the previous town would have joined their ranks as undead.
The Voidwalkers were not there to see the horror unfold. None of them wanted to be there, either.
The undead soon began to pay attention to Arfin City. After Da Xue was opened for business, the population in Arfin City skyrocketed. The portal to Da Xue’s micro realm — where the mighty Voidwalkers lived — was in Arfin City, but the city council employed only regular fighters in a bid to save money. That being said, no one was crazy enough to attack the city. Even if a war was to break war, no one would risk the wrath of a Voidwalker.
That sort of caution was only borne from intelligent minds; witless zombies could not care less, though. They knew nothing of anything, including Da Xue, so when a golem scout in the undead army spotted the highly populated city, whose defense was not up to par, it quickly reported upward, to the commander of the undead army — Zombie King Szackal.
The Zombie King was elated at the news. That city was a large, juicy pie, and nothing would stop them from eating it. The people its army would slay could become undead and join its army. The Zombie King was so excited that it summoned the undead attacking other towns, ordering them to regroup before a march on Arfin City could commence.
This recall inadvertently saved many cities that were almost raided by the undead, including as Mia’s hometown, Wyllspringshire.
News of the undead invasions reached Vidomina pretty quickly. As Hope was unavailable and the Archmage’s suit of armor, as she was told, suddenly crashed to the floor and hadn’t gotten up since then, she was automatically in charge of the institution, for the time being. When Vidomina saw, from a clip recorded magically, a sea of undead marching towards Arfin City, she began to panic so hard that she almost burst into tears.
She hurriedly took out a communication slab to contact her father — Baiyi, not her biological dad. However, she received no answer from him, as he had been forcefully teleported away. She knew nothing of that, though.
The sweet gramps, who protected the institution in Baiyi’s absence, had also disappeared mysteriously, so Vidomina had no choice but to summon all the Voidwalkers and professors at Da Xue for an emergency meeting.
After Aya had watched the clip Vidomina sent her, she frowned. The number of undead marching towards the city was so much, anyone would get a cardiac arrest from seeing so many beings at once. “I can’t believe it… These numbers…”
The dragon knights in Da Xue at the time were few, not enough to fight that many enemies. Miss Undine had appeared two days prior and requested for some dragons knights to guard some valuable goods that were being shipped to the Northern Continent. She had eventually hired more than half of the dragon knights at Da Xue for this task. The remaining dragons had been taken on an excursion by Mordred.
Hence, at the time, there were a few dragon knights left, but there were no dragons. The only dragon still in the micro realm was Aya, but she would not let anyone but Baiyi ride her.
When Aya informed the emergency council that the majority of their strongest fighting force, the dragon knights, had ‘gone partying with a rich babe’, Undine, the professors turned grim.
A professor from the Doors of Conundrum spoke up, “Should we take everyone into Da Xue before sealing the transporter portal?”
Da Xue was not situated in Arfin City; that was just where its gate was. If one was to shut down the transporter portal there, Da Xue would be isolated from Isythre. It was only then that those at Da Xue could be considered safe from the invasion. It was a wise suggestion that could guarantee the safety of many lives.
However, the Engineer Walker was quick to disagree with this suggestion. “That can’t be done. We do not have the time to ferry hundreds of millions of Arfin’s residents here. Furthermore, the transporter portal was not designed to take in that many people at once; any attempt to do so would cause it to collapse.”
Vidomina nodded and chimed in, “The school doesn’t get too many visitors, so our transporter portal was not redesigned to accommodate a great number of people. Thus, we can’t take in that many refugees right now.”
“Maybe we should help defend the city, then,” Joseph — Da Xue’s first human teacher — suggested. As the oldest primary professor, his words carried a lot of weight, even to Vice-Principal Vidomina.
“No, Teacher Joseph,” Vidomina replied. “That would be too risky. Besides, with the number of people here, we won’t be able to help much.”
“We could enlist help from the students, right?” A professor from the Knights Association pitched in.
“No!” Vidomina and Joseph cried out in unison.
Baiyi encouraged his students to develop their skills through excursions, but he was dead-set on not allowing them to take part in actual wars; he would never gamble with these lives of his students.
People like Vidomina and Joseph, who had been by Baiyi’s side for a long time, knew this. This was why both had so quickly rejected the professor’s proposal.
“Why not?!” That professor asked hotly. He was very muscular, and his face was framed by a thick beard and a mustache. His muscles bulged in his anger, almost causing his uniform to rip. “I don’t care what you sorcerers think. We, the Faculty of Knights, have always believed that only real wars can make a true knight out of a man! If neither of you intends to do so, then I’ll personally lead my students to the front line!”
Vidomina’s beautifully-arched brows furrowed. Professor Halsey — or “Bull” Halsey as many called him — was not among the professors she had a lot of contact with, but his reputation preceded his name. He was among the first batch of instructors from the Knights Association to be hired by Da Xue; thus, he had gained a lot of prestige at the academy. He was also a dedicated and responsible professor, and his teaching methods were a great deal more reliable than those of the Voidwalkers. These are the reasons why Baiyi trusts him a lot.
As the leader of the Knights Faculty, the Hitman Walker, was unavailable — whilst the Knight Walker was in the Void — Professor Halsey was in charge. If he really wanted to lead the faculty’s students and professors into battle, he could, as Da Xue’s protocols placed his authority in his department higher than those of Vidomina and Joseph.
“Professor Halsey, I beseech you to calm down a little. Surely you know that the Grand Principal himself is against leading students into war,” Vidomina gloomily said as she gave Attie a look.
As a professor in the Knight Faculty and Baiyi’s Kitty Cat Maid, the words of the bodacious Attie carried as much weight as Professor Halsey’s did within the Knights Faculty.
“I get you, young lady, but I also know this: he would be even more repulsed if we leave by the idea of leaving hundreds of millions of innocent people to be maimed by those monsters just because we wanted to save our skin!” Professor Halsey thundered and got up from his seat, ready to leave.
“No, I won’t allow it!” Vidomina yelled.
Professor Halsey smirked at her and shook his head. “You’re quite the pampered little princess, Vice Principal Vidomina. The two of you are.”
With that, he turned around.
Attie stood up as well, and instead of stopping Professor Halsey, she turned to the rest of the council and said, “Please excuse me. I need to start gathering the students.”
Attie had become the docile Kitty Cat Maid, causing many people to forget her real identity. She was from the plains, and was once a King who ruled tribes of barbarians! The courage and determination of a barbarian coursed through her veins. This was something that could no be erased by time.
“Ha! Looks like we have a smart lass with us!” Professor Halsey smiled. “I’ll be summoning students from the advanced grades; you must wait for us!”
‘A-Attie?!” Vidomina was alarmed. She shot to her feet, causing her chest to jiggle. She had never expected her best friend, Attie, to side with Professor Halsey at such a critical moment!
“He’s not wrong, you know,” Attie said calmly. “If Master was around, he would definitely stand up for those innocent people. I’m not as strong as Master, so I’m not confident that I could achieve victory if I go out there on my own, whilst the lot of you sit back. Hence, I have to bring more people with me to win.”
With that, she left.
Tisdale, who had not said anything since the meeting started, suddenly stood up. Her gaze shifted to the departing professors, Halsey and Attie, and in a commanding tone, she called out, “Bring only students at the Fourth Grade; make sure that they are ranked in the top one hundred.”
As Baiyi’s personal assistant and the second-in-command at Da Xue, her words were something even Halsey had to heed. The man stopped and turned, asking, “Only a hundred? Are you sure that’s enough?”
“Bring them to the part of the defense where it’s safer, so they can as back up. With students from other faculties, I’m sure it will suffice,” Tisdale replied confidently.
“What about the main defense? Would it be the city guards, or them ?” Halsey eyed the Engineer Walker and the other Voidwalkers.
The Engineer nodded. “It seems you hold prejudice against us, sir. The marionette army will naturally be serving as the main defense.”
Halsey was stunned for a while, but he quickly recovered. He flashed the council a thumbs-up and hurried off to gather his students.
Tisdale turned to Joseph and said, “Teacher Joseph, please bring one hundred… no. Bring the fifty students ranked in the top fifty. They will be used as a back-up for the main defense.”
‘Professor Nobel, please equip your best students with enough restorative potions and antidotes. I will need them as support.”
“Haha! Looks like Little Dale is all grown-up and fit to be a reliable commander now! Good; we’ll be delighted to offer you our latest inventions!” The Alchemist Walker laughed, leaving the room in high spirit.
“Big Sister Aya? These students may need your help as well.”
“Mm, understood. We don’t have dragons, but we still have the knights. I’ll summon them,” she replied.
With that, Tisdale had assumed command and given directives to everyone. Things were moving smoothly as they would if Baiyi was there.
