Re:Mimic [MONSTER MC LITRPG]

Chapter 57: Rematch

Lucas woke up the next morning feeling pleasantly refreshed. He didn't have any nightmares and even better, his insides didn't feel like they had gone through a blender.

He stood up with some exaggerated stretching, with his limbs going beyond his proportions. After retracing his arms with a relieved yawn, he willed his blinds to open up. Gazing out into the cloudy morning sky, Lucas exhaled as he thought to himself,

'Let's see if I can accelerate this healing. Sitting on my hands for a few days would be a waste.'

He walked over to the bed and used his tendrils to seat. A few seconds later, he closed his eyes, doing his best to focus his Mind. Crimson Runes appeared across his skin and tendrils as he siphoned Life energy from the environment.

He didn't use the energy to do anything yet, he had an idea in mind. If it worked out properly, he may never have to worry about this level of injury ever again.

He absorbed his energy for almost half an hour before his core was filled to the max. Throughout the process, he recalled the things he had learned about Spirit energy and how the serum healed him. With his stock full, he set his plan into motion.

"How did it work again? Like this?"

Cough!

He immediately coughed up a spurt of blood and gripped at his chest. His heart had exploded with an audible rip. He quickly used his Life energy to recover from the injury. With a pained grimace, he chastised himself,

"Take it slower, dumb ass. You gave yourself a literal heart attack."

Refocusing on the task at hand, Lucas tried his idea once more. The idea was anything but easy however. He was attempting to replicate the flow of the serum within his body and its fluctuations. He thought if he could repeat the process, his Life energy should be able to replicate its absurd healing. At least to a small extent.

He repeated the process six more times only to be met with failure, though not to the catastrophic degree of the first attempt. He stopped with a frown as he asked himself,

"What am I missing here? I'm moving my energy in the right way but my cells are not following the process — oh! That's it!"

Realising his mistake, he tried once more. Beginning from his heart, a small amount of his Life energy flowed out in a slow, almost heavy rhythm. It pulsed and oscillated at fixed intervals of two.

Which each pulse, small amounts of energy were fed to the thread of Life energy. The originally small stream of energy grew more powerful every two seconds.

'[Adaptive Resonance].'

Unlike with his previous attempts, he activated his [Adaptive Resonance] Skill in tandem with the flow of Life energy. What followed could only be described as miraculous.

His cells began vibrating at the same rhythm as his energy, allowing it to permeate his entire being. A wave of soothing bliss came over him as his control over his energy loosened. More and more Life energy got siphoned into his being, raising his bliss to a higher and higher degree.

Before he understood what was going on, his body began floating as it released an overbearing crimson light. Covering his room in its radiant warmth.

'That's enough!'

With clenched fists, he cut off the flow of power. The room returned to normal, but he was far from the same. As he took some deep breaths to calm down, red steam whiffed off his form. Multiple holes were burned into his pajamas and bed sheets.

As he sent his energy into his pajamas and let it heal itself, he checked his Life energy within his core. He was surprised to see that not only was it all gone, a large chunk of his Spirit energy was also gone. His core itself seemed strained by the rapid use of energy.

'Dang. I should save this for emergencies. Well let me see how much I healed.'

{[Adaptive Resonance] has leveled up from level 4—>level 5. Well done.}

"It worked!"

Lucas jumped for joy as his tendrils danced around. Free of his injuries, he had one less thing to be worried about. But he read the notification over once more,

"Why didn't I gain an Attribute point? Can you tell me anything about this?"

To his surprise, Wiki actually gave a strained answer.

{It's simple. [Adaptive Resonance] is not a new Skill, just an evolved one. The system will naturally not reward you for reaching a height you stood at before.}

"Ohh… that kinda makes sense."

With his question answered and his overall good mood, he didn't over think it as he carried on with his day. He turned into a blur as he headed for his bathroom and took a warm shower. He dressed in some free, pale yellow pants and a checkered loose top.

He left his room with a confident stride as he made his way to the training ground. He greeted every Beastkin he came across with a beaming smile. His mood couldn't be better.

As he trekked on the stone path, he could see Evélyne and Sasha practicing in the training field. They fought barehanded, leaving faint thunderclaps with every movement. Somehow the field remained intact from their super sonic clashes. Even though they were not using the best of their abilities, Lucas could tell their skill level was still much greater than his.

Every exchange between them was a precise dance. Every clash, weave, parry, and block was made while thinking three or more steps ahead.

They both slowly came to a stop when Lucas got to the training yard, his sharper aura drawing their attention. A cool breeze stirred his hair as he said,

"Good morning guys."

Sasha waved at him with an excited tail.

"Good morning, sir Lucas."

"Good morning, Lucas. It seems you made a full recovery?"

Evélyne asked flatly, a faint curiousity dancing in her gaze. Lucas smirked as he said,

"Why yes princess Evélyne. I made a miraculous recovery yesterday thanks to the queen's efforts. The depths of my gratitude know no bounds."

He finished off his speech with a deep bow, his tendrils assisting and exaggerated his movements as his nose almost scraped the floor. Sasha chuckled at this while Evélyne just looked between him and Sasha apathetically.

'Hmm… seems she doesn't get the joke.'

Realising the joke went over Evélyne's head, Lucas rose to his full height. Changing the topic, Lucas cracked his knuckles as he said,

"I think I'm fit to spar now. So do you want to have a rematch, Sasha?"

Sasha's tail swished as she turned to her mistress. Her expression filled with restrained excitement. Evélyne nodded at her with a small smile. She walked out of the field and said,

"I will be the referee."

Sasha's gown shifted, tightening at the waist as the fabric adjusted. The skirt split for easier movement, and the sleeves shortened. In moments, she was wearing a battle robe. She entered her basic stance and beckoned at Lucas. Lucas smirked as his bones expanded and his shape began to—

"Don't transform."

Evélyne's neutral voice immediately stopped him in his tracks. He reverted to his human form and asked,

"Why?"

Evélyne smoothly responded with,

"How can you learn our martial arts if you are of a completely different stature?"

Lucas immediately felt sheepish here. His tendrils then flared as he—

"No tendrils, Spirit energy, or Runes as well. We are working on your fundamentals. Using anything other than your Physique will just add to your bad habits."

Lucas' right eye twitched as he retracted his tendrils. Raising both hands in a surrender gesture he asked,

"Okay. We good to go now?"

Evélyne nodded with a faint smile.

"Finally."

Lucas turned his focus to Sasha once more as he replicated her stance. The only difference was, he had his right foot forward. Sasha's eyes thinned even further as Evélyne said,

"This is just fundamental sparring. No Physique, Spirit, or Mind techniques. And of course, no Skills are allowed. The match will be decided by a would be killing blow. Now… begin!"

Both combatants rushed forward simultaneously. They both let loose straight punches, releasing a blast of air when their fists clashed. Unfazed, they both wiped out low kicks, matching each other blow for blow.

Sasha's eyes narrowed while Lucas smirked wider. Sasha jumped back causing Lucas to lose balance and instantly unleashed a roundhouse kick to his temple.

Lucas smirk faltered as he hastily blocked the kick with his left hand, launching himself into a smooth handspring.

'Fuck.'

Bang.

Sasha practically teleported behind him as she performed a powerful double palm strike. The attack launched Lucas almost ten meters forward.

With a controlled tumble, Lucas skillfully reduced his momentum. Ending up on a knee, he hastily rolled to the side as Sasha hacked down with a brutal axe kick.

Boom!

The hit smashed a crater into the training yard but completely missed its target. Exploiting this lapse, Lucas closed the gap between them as hammered out a heavy right cross.

Sasha blocked with a snarl, taking two steps back to dissipate the force of the hit. Lucas didn't let up as he dashed forward to capitalize on this opening.

Sasha corrected her stance to become wider, both hands forming claws as she grinned. When Lucas got within range, they both let loose. They exchanged devastating punches and kicked at a blistering pace.

Boomboomboomboomboomboom.

Gusts of wind peppered Evélyne as she watched on in thought.

'His adaptation is truly remarkable. His Physique is also better than I thought, but he uses it like a wild beast. Sasha should win about… now.'

The moment she thought "now", Sasha parried Lucas fist and grabbed his arm. Before Lucas could react, she pulled him into a sharp knee strike to the gut, winding him, then she transitioned into a throw and slammed him over her shoulder into the hard rock below.

BANG!

The slam easily smashed open a five meter crater. Dazed, Lucas could only helplessly watch an ax kick slashed towards for his skull like a guillotine. The wind howling as it struggled to evade the blow.

"Stop."

Whoosh.

Sasha's kick stopped centimeters above Lucas' face, blowing away some dust away from the crater. Retracting her leg, Sasha turned to Evélyne with a questioning look. Evélyne just shook her head as Lucas said,

"Aren't you going to help me out of this hole? I think my spine is shattered."
