Star Hawk Rises

82: CHAPTER 1: Best Laid Plans!

The ship was approaching the orbit of the habitable planet after a small journey Into the star system. After a while of watching the cops float, I had figured out how to manipulate the gravity plates and carefully through a lot of trail and error. I had managed to figure out that with a little gravity I could hold them, too much, and they would be pulled towards the ground. However, not enough and they would float free again. Using these gravity plates, I was able to pull the mean police officers from America towards a section of the housing habitat that I still had a standing jail in. However, the problem was I was still working out how to get them into it without having to send my own men in there to do it manually. But I had enjoyed the looks on their faces as they floated towards it. Occasionally I would increase the gravity before decreasing it, giving them a sort of rocking motion towards and away from the jail cells. Devon said he could imagine an evil grin on my face each time I did it, and I should probably stop messing with them. I disagreed and told him they deserved it. And if I was being honest with myself, I believed I was letting them off lightly with this small amount of teasing.

My brain had after all considered increasing the gravity until they flattened like a pancake against the deck. I had considered it twice, but ultimately had decided not to do it to all of them as it would be over too quickly, and they were only following orders anyway, wasn't exactly their fault. Except for the man that had shot Craig, while the rest were floating towards the jail cells, he had been floating towards the airlock that had finished repairing itself. It was a delight to find out I could manipulate the gravity anywhere on the ship. He was currently standing in the airlock, still screaming his head off, while I thought about what to do with him, I didn't want to kill him, America might accuse me of murder or something, if I did that. I simply just left him there in the airlock and turned my attention back to the floating cops.

"How to get the naughty criminals that stowed away on a foreign nation's ship, I wonder if this could be seen as an act of war? I mean, you are attempting to kidnap a political power… or am I a government power? Anywho, big trouble for you lot… according to this book I have here about ship captains and their rights, I am within my Galactic Federation rights to simply float you out the airlock into space. That's kinda scary to think about, isn't it?"

I glanced at another book on my HUD that was meant for those that had reached the rank of Solar Tak. It had entire chapters on ruling over a planet and my rights and the laws enforced on the planet before speaking again.

"Actually, if I was to enforce my claim as the Solar Tak of your planet, I would have the right to destroy your entire country for rebelling against the kingdom? I asked the last word, not really sure where I stood as the owner of the planet. I knew I was queen of the Solar System, but the planet had its own royal ruler, and they were a citizen of my kingdom as the royal ruler of the Star System in question. I found it all very confusing.

I was considering just ramming them through the front door and seeing what happened when one suddenly spoke, stalling my idea to attempt that idea.

"Wait! I will help you get the rest inside, but I need some assurances, and basically I want to make a deal!" he screamed almost in a panicky voice.

"I'm listening" I stated slowly as I narrowed the camera to zoom in on his face, I felt like I was squinting at him.

"I would like a copy of those books, I would also like any copies of books that pertain to the rights and laws of planetary clans, you are right, we are clans that are part of this system and as the lawyer of the group it is my job to know these laws"

"You are a lawyer?" I asked, feeling shocked that there was a jag officer or some variant of that up here pretending to be a cop.

"Uh, not exactly, I have my law degree, but I was never a lawyer" he said sheepishly. Before continuing. "I was just meant to read you your rights as you got off the shuttle onto American soil."

"Let me guess, you have none because you were never arrested and the Washington clan just plans to stick you in a hole somewhere" I retorted.

I saw him wince before slowly nodding his head. I let out a groan and thought, 'fuck it, I can just remove the gravity again if they try to screw me over.' I then put the gravity back to earth normal and watched them all drop to the ground. A few groaned in pain before slowly getting to their feet.

"Fine, whatever, get them in their jail cells, and I'll send you the books to study, I also expect your traitorous ass in a cell too!"

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

He nodded his head and immediately started pushing George into the building. I couldn't hear what he was whispering into George's ear, but I would have bet the farm I didn't have. It was something along the lines of let's play along until I can study the laws and use them against her to get the station. Based on the nodding, George was doing as he and the others willingly walked into a jail cell. I didn't really care, I was assured of the fact that a celestial Clan couldn't legally unseat me from that Orbital Station, then a planetary clan, had a snowflakes chance in hell of doing it. Once they were all in, I locked the doors so they couldn't exit. Then I purchased the books and sent them to the wannabe lawyer. Once, all that was done, I turned my attention to the planet below.

My sensors had done a scan of the planet a few times, trying to pinpoint the largest city of people. The cameras on the outside of my ship were currently attempting to zoom in enough to get a look at the individuals on the ground, but it wasn't working as I had hoped. I had trailed to hailing them a few times now, but they were not responding. At this point i was starting to get dissatisfied with the cameras and had already begun considering pulling back and searching the net for better cameras so I could give it another go. Instead, I turned to my radio and ship wide broadcast systems.

"Clara, how close to the planet can I get this ship before I can't escape?" I asked as I considered moving into the atmosphere.

"Uh, I don't know actually, give me like a bunch of minutes and I will run some tests and figure it out" she called back as she vanished off the camera I was using to look at her and into the engineering department.

"How many is a bunch?" I asked, but I did not get a reply, leaving me to let out a loud sigh and turn my radio over to contacting the Blossoming Terranova Orbital Station.

[Guild Mistress Kenna: Lost Hawk to Blossoming Terranova Orbital Station, do you copy? Over.]

I sat staring out into the void, watching the stars and the planet below as I waited. The planet was rather beautiful, it had large bodies of water. I could see six continents and a bunch of what I would call islands. I noticed one of my rear cameras had a decent shot of an island and I could see a small village on it, houses made out of wood and thatch. There were wooden walls around the village, and the people that looked like ants from this distance were patrolling the wall as more of them moved about their daily lives inside the village. My attention was drawn back to the radio as I got a response, stopping any further study of the village.

[Orbital Station Command, Joseph: this is Joseph of the Blossoming Terranova H.Q. to Lost Hawk, it is good to hear your voice, I assume your stowaways have been contained, and you have reached the selected planet? The English are getting antsy, and all those that are going to that Star System have already boarded the arc and are demanding we let them launch. Over.]

[Guild Mistress Kenna: oh, then they are going to hate this. The planet is already inhabited, I haven't managed to establish contact yet and the cameras are not able to zoom in enough to get a good look at what's down there, but I am getting readings of a population in the billions. I recommend looking for another place to live. Over.]

[Orbital Station Command, Joseph: Copy, your dad is suggesting you stay there and begin acquiring the ownership rights to all celestial objects in that Star System before turning your attention to the planet. We will inform her Majesty that a new Star System will have to be located. Over and out.]

I turned my attention to all the celestial objects floating in the star system that my sensors had picked up, and a grin slowly spread across my face.

"Mining rights to this star system! I should have them send out someone that wants to do that. Ooh, and I can use my ship to build a station for a mining H.Q. with a small dry dock for mining barges and freight ships to haul the cargo back home."

I was vibrating in my seat in excitement when I thought about it and quickly got back on the radio to suggest it.

[Guild Mistress Kenna: Lost Hawk to Blossoming Terranova Orbital Station, do you copy? Over.]

[Orbital Station Command, Joseph: this is Joseph of the Blossoming Terranova H.Q. to Lost Hawk, is there another problem? Over.]

[Guild Mistress Kenna: may I recommend loading up some miners and sending them this way, this star system has a great deal of rocks floating around, and I think it could turn into a miners wet dream, I will use the frigates sensors to do a survey for them and build a mining H.Q. station with a dry dock, but I'll need some funds first I just spent my last credit. Over]

[Orbital Station Command, Joseph: copy that! We will find twenty miners and send them your way with a foreman. Then we will get dock 3 to begin construction on freight ships to bring the ore back to us for processing. If you can get construction of a mining HQ station up and running with a small dry dock to build some mining barges for that Star System. Your sister that is in charge of all our finances says she can spare fifty thousand credits for this new business branch. Remember to get ownership of the star system before you start that and before they arrive. Over and out!]

I let the radio go silent and turned my attention to the frigate, making sure it was sitting in a stable orbit. I was about to disconnect and go figure out if Clara said we had a skiff here somewhere or not when I heard a call from Clara.

"Kenna! Kenna, I have great news! This ship can actually land! …okay, not exactly, it can land in water but not on the ground. Once we are in water, the ship will suck up the salt water and super heat it, converting it into steam. As that rushes through some sort of fan, and is dumped back outside, the energy that is generated by that will recharge the batteries! Plus, as a side benefit the salt is stored in a huge container on the ship allowing us to sell it at the nearest trade hub! Oh, and we have more than enough fuel to get back off the planet and home again, so that's not a worry, this means we can basically stay here for a few months or years if we wanted to."

"Perfect, I'll see you in a few minutes" I said as I disconnected from the ship
