Star Hawk Rises

CHAPTER 63: FRIGATE!?

I let out a long sigh as I looked Corwin over, there was no way I was going to back out. However, I also had no idea how I was going to give him a building or two when I didn't even know where the hell I was, let alone where the best building to give him would be. I turned to look down the tunnel the dwarves had gone and was starting to think I would have to go find a building when Corwin spoke.

"There is another option, of course."

"And that option would be?" I asked curiously.

"Transport to the orbital station here, it's new currently being built there is a lot of space and in exchange for helping build housing and work spaces or even just a decent paying job on board, you could give us free housing for a few years."

"And free access to the uplink pods." lefty suddenly threw in as he nodded eagerly.

I let out a loud sigh as a phrase I had heard on television a long time ago jumped into my mind. 'Ah, these pendejo' I didn't know what it meant, but from the context in the show, I was assuming it meant idiot or foolish people. I suddenly smiled at Corwin as an idea stuck me.

"Fine, you might have a deal, I will send a skiff with a pilot that loves to fly, careful he is a bit crazy."

"So am I."

I made a face at him. Then I rolled my eyes. I thought about the deal he wanted and smiled at him slowly as an evil twinkle appeared in my eye.

"However, while I will send a skiff to transport the four of you, no charge. I'm not going to be as kind as you desire. You can find jobs as you please on the station I am sure there will be plenty to go around, I will allow free housing for a year, then a thirty percent discount after that. Finally, I will only allow uplink pods to be discounted by forty percent, not free. Okay?"

Corwin glanced back at his two friends, watching them for a few moments before slowly turning to face me and nodding his head slowly.

"Yes, that seems fair and agreeable. But we are going to need something more to make it fair, as owning a building here would have paid for all that and more. Therefore, I request ownership of a ship! One with a kitchen with a dinning area, at least five bedrooms and a cargo bay. Oh, and an entertainment area for gaming and stuff, it would also be preferable if it had five uplink pods onboard too, that would be great and in exchange we will give up anything on the station, this way we have our own home, and we can travel as merchants."

I smiled as I moved my hand to shake his, only to remember he was using his to hold Jasmine up. I quickly withdrew my hand and nodded my head instead.

"Okay, we have a deal, I will have the ship constructed within three weeks and send it to pick you up. Keep in touch, I will make sure it is completed before your lease runs out so you don't end up on the street."

He grinned from ear to ear and I could see his two friends were also grinning and looking relieved as the three of them nodded happily.

"Yes, we will keep in touch, thank you… Kenna"

I smiled to them, then turned to face my team and the tag along as I tried to decide what we should do now. As I tried to decide that, I quickly sent a message back to my uncles, telling them the importance of needing this ship built as soon as possible and to forward the bill to me. I then paused, seeing the rest of the messages on my HUD and noticing the only one marked important was from Lucas Winch.

"Oh, crap, the boss is texting." I mumbled as I mentally opened the letter.

You little fantastic, beautiful little fucking shit! Haha, I'm so happy and proud of your work. Do you have any idea how good it makes me look when I appoint four people who the galactic federation consider complete and utter dead weight screw-ups to the black ops team? And they then proceed to solve a two century war on the first fricken day! Haha, spitfire speed demon amazingly good, that's how good! And to top it all off, I have been promoted! Already transferred to the Galactic Federation Headquarters and I had you four transferred with me, no way was I leaving you behind under the command of fuck knows who. Who has already taken the post, so watch your back, you probably won't be able to get off that planet for a while. I have also transferred the owner of that drop-ship, I figured he might be useful since he is still with you and if not then we can toss him back out into the player pool on a carrier. And here is the best part! All four of you have been promoted too! CONGRATULATIONS Flight Captain! Haha, you are being reassigned to your own commission! A brand-new fresh out of the dry dock Galactic Federation Frigate! It has been named The Rising Hawks. The entire star hawk team is assigned to it as officers, and it will be filled out with loyal crew who believe and support you. Buckle up Kenna, you are being sent to war. No more ground pounding for your naval ass. Haha, hang up your Navy SEAL hat and get ready for command of a ship! P.s. I was so excited I may have let this letter get away from me in bits, ah well, you will figure it out I have so many places to be and so much to do, good luck!

Signed General Lucas Winch.

My mouth fell open, and I just stared at the letter, not moving until Zeo got curious enough to walk over and convince me to display my HUD for her to see. Once she was done reading it, she just screamed and started freaking out,

"Holy fucken bat shite in the wind!"

A man was sitting on a couch staring at his children running around the living room in front of him having a ball of a time. Their smiles almost made it worth it, but in honesty he was feeling so miserable and hated himself for what he had allowed that bitch Eloana Twiddles to do to him. But he knew he didn't really have a choice. He lived on a planet owned by their clan, and they could easily do anything they wanted to his family. He was out of the void military, and he was clanless. However, his children were alive and happy, that's what really mattered to him. After a while he stood up and walked into the kitchen, he kissed his wife on the cheek and told her he loved her more than everything in the universe. Then he went into the garage and opened his weapons safe, took out his military pistol, and sat down on a crate, resting the weapon in his lap. He sat there staring at the gun as he felt the shame wash over him. The shame of allowing the evil Twiddles clan to manipulate him by using his family against him. The shame of being clanless. The shame of getting removed from the best squad he had been a part of because of those evil bastards. He gripped the gun tighter as he started to firm his resolve, he was ready, he was sure of it this time. He suddenly screamed as loud as he could and threw his head back, screaming at the roof. When he finally stopped screaming, his wife was standing in front of him with a worried look on her face as the kids peeked in through the garage door.

"Pack a bag, hunny, and use all our savings to get off this planet and onto a ship, head for a place called Blossoming Terranova Orbital Station in MWOA254, you will be safe there. I heard it was newly built and most likely out of the way from anyone's attention. Take the kids and your sister, my brother, and sister too, don't let our parents talk you out of dragging them along with you. You have to make sure they all get out of here. As for me, well I can't come with you, my dear. I am going to have to secure your exit, and then I will be joining the Rebel Star Hawks, this tyrannical rule of those bastard Twiddles clan has to end!"

His wife smiled happily as a sense of pride returned to her as she looked down at her husband. She could not be more proud of him than she was at that moment, and quickly got to work ensuring their entire family was ready to leave as soon as possible. Her husband was paying attention to his HUD, no doubt organising stuff with friends who would join him in this fight. She just hoped and prayed that they would all make it through this and reach their new home.

*******

Jason Twiddles was laying on his cot aboard the crashed freight cruiser on the surface of some cursed red planet. He had no idea how long he had been on this planet for, but ages ago he had used a small perk to purchase a special item for his ship that cloaked it from all radars. This allowed him to sneak through blockades. However, now he was using it to hide from that cursed orbital station and that bitch Kenna, who led that infernal place. If they managed to find him, he would be seriously surprised and would have to start believing in divine intervention. Honestly, he would have taken the device and the ship he was meant to deliver to that pathetic planetary clan idiot. It was so banged up that it barely functioned properly, and that was before it endured a crash landing. He screamed in frustration as he got to his feet and then exited the captain's quarters, turned and started walking towards the cargo hold. As he passed the engineering department, he saw the fat engineer that looked like he was overworked and out of his class. Jason knew he had been attending Meetings and conferences back on his home planet, using friends and former coworkers to help him fix this mess, and get the engine back up and running. Jason had wanted to reprimand The man and punish him for being so incompetent, but he was the only engineer on board.

"How is it going, Melk?"

"Ah, captain. I am sorry to say this heap is gone. I even went to the university to speak to their engineering department and sent them pictures, reports, and everything else I could short of sending the damn pieces themselves. Even they shook their heads and declared this mess slagged. The best I can do is keep the power on and the generator kicking over. We will have power, but I am afraid we are going to have to deploy the habitat module and start building a base."

Jason swore before glaring at the fat man. He knew it wasn't the guy's fault, but his frustration and anger had to blame someone.

"Alright, get the printer going and feed this slagged mess into it, then start building construction droids, I need to get to the hold and check on the cargo."

"Aye, captain, will get on that right away." Melk declared as he dropped a spanner and exited the room.

Jason turned and started walking towards the cargo hold again.

"This is all such a huge pain in the ass" he muttered to himself.

Jason was thinking about how his cousin Dee had convinced her husband Dumm, who was Jason's superior, to coerce Jason into taking this stupid contract to deliver a banged up ship out to butt frack nowhere. Resulting in dumping him in this mess. To top it all off, he was going to have to spend a lot of time salvaging enough material to build a base and a long range communications station to request aid. Hopefully then someone would be sent to get him off this cursed planet.

Jason rounded a corner and entered the cargo hold as he leant against a railing and looked down into the hold where he saw the banged up ship sitting off to the far side of the Cargo hold. However, his eyes were staring at the hundred clone tanks separated by a metal wall from the tanks and pipes that housed all the chemicals and nutrients required for a billion clone bodies.

"If we had only made it to that stupid planet."
