I was rudely woken to someone banging on the door. That seemed insistent and relentless. I was already feeling annoyed at how insistent it was and decided to answer it slowly. I sat up. Rubbed my eyes. Stretched, cracking my back in the process. Only then did I stand up slowly as I yawned. I stood there, considering ignoring the door and going back to sleep. But I was already standing now, and going back to sleep seemed like I would be wasting the effort it took me to stand. Coming to that decision, I let out a sigh and shuffled slowly over to the door, waving it open.
"You better have coffee if you're waking me up this loudly." I said to whoever was on the other side of the door.
I wasn't surprised to see a young girl standing on the other side. She looked pale and like she was about to die, if she breathed too loudly, next to the man that was being loud and rude in his attempt to bang my door down.
"Good morning, Elder Wang Jun. May I ask what brings you to my door this early in the morning to bang so insistently upon it. You don't even have coffee to offer?" I asked as I glanced down at my hand, wondering why there was no coffee to sip at this perfect moment for it.
While I was feeling betrayed by the coffee that was still missing from my hand. I did notice the young girl that, looked like she couldn't be older than 16, pale even further when she heard the way I spoke to the elder.
"Don't you good morning me! You will tell me right now who designed that ship! There is no way some upstart bitch dog like yourself managed to do that on your own." He glared at me as he jabbed a finger into my chest with each word he asked. "Who. Helped. You?"
I stared at him for a few moments like I was looking at something that I had found on the bottom of my shoe. Then I glanced back down at my hand, wondering why I still didn't have coffee. I turned looking around my room, hoping to spot a coffee machine before I turned my head back to stare at the man. After a few more moments of him not elaborating or explaining himself, I decided to ignore him and turned my head to smile sweetly to the girl.
"Are you here with him or have you come to ask, maybe tell me something else?" I asked her.
She let out a squeak of fear the second the man rounded on her, glaring down as if he was daring her to say anything before he got the answer he wanted out of me. I watched her back off, not wanting to get involved, this caused me to let out a sigh as I turned back to address the elder.
"Fine, whatever, no one helped me, I purchased licences from a shop and found them inferior and honestly, straight up garbage. They were full of issues and problems, so I decided to design my own. No one helped me other than the attempted inclusion of that mental lock thing you yourself gave me. I found a back door in it and decided to scrap it before it got anywhere near my design. There. Are you happy now?"
I turned back to the young girl and waved my hand at her to indicate it was now her turn to tell me why she was here. I glanced at my hand as I did, unable to stop the thought 'where's my coffee' from slipping into my mind again. However, before she could build the courage to speak, let alone move, the elder interjected again.
"Lies! Do not lie to me again! You are not under the protection of a bridge crew member anymore. If you lie to me again, I can and will punish you severely!" He shouted at me.
"Is that so? But I am not a member of your department, nor am I a member of your sect. I am a guest of the sect leader and have been allowed to stay here. When mentor Zhang introduced herself, she told me I was to be taught the righteous void walking sect ways. Now I don't know about you but banging on a young maidens door first thing in the morning and demanding answers that you don't believe when given and insisting you be told what you want to hear under duress does not sound very righteous to me." I declared as I glared back at the man.
I turned to look at the young woman, getting a bit fed up with this farce. "I am going to guess you are here to tell me I am no longer confined to my room and now may return to cultivating?" I asked, watching her nod her head quickly before turning and fleeing down the hallway now that her message had been delivered. I turned back to look at the elder and smiled.
"Great! I will get back to cultivating shortly. As for you, elder Wang Jun, no I will not be joining the engineering department, no I will not be designing another ship any time soon, and most importantly, no there is nothing you can do to change my mind." I declared as I waved my hand closing the door in his face only for him to start pounding on it again a moment later.

"Bah, where is security when you need it?" I bemoaned as I looked around my room, noting its spartan appearance and ending up looking at the door again. I didn't want to go out there until he left, otherwise he would most likely follow me to threaten me with who knows what, just to get whatever narrative fit his current beliefs or goals.
I let out a groan as I turned to face the door that he was starting to be hit harder, It almost sounded like he had a sledgehammer now. I stopped to consider how strong I was currently feeling at the Foundation Establishment stage, and came to the conclusion that I could probably hit that door with the strength of a sledgehammer.
"Huh, I guess he was being polite earlier with his loud knocking." I shrugged, deciding I was going to ignore that bit of information "Still rude to wake me up though" I grumbled before I glanced at the sensor that would open the door.
My head slowly turned to look at where the television wall was, and I considered turning it on for a bit, while I waited for him to go away. However, I was stopped from making that decision when I heard a gentle knock on the door. I turned back to it, feeling a bit confused as I wondered why he would knock softly and wait after all that racket he had been making. Curiosity got the better of me and I waved my hand to open the door.
The woman that was standing on the other side was not who I expected to be there, and my eyebrows raised in surprise when I spotted him on the other side of the hallway, looking meek and quiet.
"coffee?" She asked as she held out a takeaway cup to me.
I slowly reached out and took it, still glancing between the both of them trying to figure out what was going on. I could feel the heat through the cup, knowing it was hot, causing me to lean forward and sniff in the aroma of a strong cup of coffee.
"mm, that smells delightful, I am glad to see someone around here knows how to wake a girl up." I said as I gave the elder a side eyed glance.
Elder Wang Jun turned and looked away, but I could see the frustration on his face. The woman in front of me let out a soft giggle as she smiled at me and nodded her head.
"Oh, I know just what you mean, it's so rude to be woken this early in the morning without any coffee being offered as an apology." She said.
We both smiled at each other before turning to look at elder Wang Jun, giving him a judgemental look. I was about to turn back to the woman and ask what this long black haired jade beauty, who looked to be roughly mid 20s in age. What she was doing at my door, making a core elder look meek. However, she spoke before I could.
"I am sorry for my rudeness, please allow me to introduce myself. I am Itshu Miskyu, Patriarch of this Sect ship, or captain of the ship if you prefer. I have decided to show respect to the engineer capable of designing such an unbelievable ship by coming to you personally. I would like to invite you to breakfast and discuss your future."
"oh, ho? I am to be whined and dined? How marvellous, such an improvement over the banging on my door, shouting, and accusations I just experienced. Causing me to feel isolated on this ship, and trapped in my room. Not to mention the fear the poor girl, who had come to tell me my two-week confinement had ended, went through as she watched." I said as I looked pointedly at the elder.
I watched him flinch a few times, almost like I had been nailing a nail into his coffin as I talked. The captain turned her head to look at him after I had finished talking, causing him to flinch again.
"It looks like I'm going to have to organise a meeting with all the elders to discuss the proper way of treating our people and guests." She said slowly.
I quickly put a serious look on my face as I nodded my head, agreeing with her that guests and people of a righteous sect should be treated better than I had been. I couldn't keep my face straight and was soon grinning at the man like I had caught the canary. I quickly wiped it off my face as the captain turned back to look at me. The moment her eye contact broke from him, he scowled at me. I decided to ignore him and stepped out of my room, motioning for the captain to lead the way.
She turned and started walking away as I fell in next to her, completely ignoring the ass that we were leaving behind. I did glance over my shoulder as we turned a corner, but I couldn't see him anywhere and quickly put him out of my mind.
"If I may ask, where are we headed?" I asked curiously.
"We are headed to my office because there is a privacy barrier formation around it, to ensure privacy and no information leaks." She replied simply as we stepped onto what quickly became apparent to be an elevator.
*******
Wang Jun had angrily stomped his way back to the engineering department and over to his office, dropping into his favourite chair as he fumed at the way that insufferable brat had treated him, a core elder. He had been trying to think of a way to get back at her all the way back, but the little bitch was right.
There was very little he could actually do to her since she wasn't a member of his department, which limited the actions he could take to punish or educate the brat. The problem he was having trouble getting past was she wasn't part of any department, so he couldn't complain to anyone and have them punish her.
He did consider going to the elder of the outer sect, but the issue was she had fallen into a grey area. She wasn't technically part of the outer sect since she hadn't reached the golden core stage yet, and she no longer had a mentor who could punish her for him.
He let out a growl of annoyance as he kicked his blueprint table, unable to come up with a solution. Only to freeze when the table turned on, displaying the results of the race and informing him the blueprints had all been declassified. As the head of the engineering department, he now had access to all of them, including hers. A smile spread across his face as he leant forwards and began working his way through the menus headed for her ship.
"Well, if I can't punish you, then I will steal your ships' onboard AI code and publish it as my own. Then, when yours comes to light, I can sue you for intellectual theft!" He crowed happily.
