When the Saintess Arrives, No King Exist

Chapter 395: Kolebo Blow the Horn

After the previous two hits, the speed of these Kasha County Knights has significantly decreased.

In the sudden cavalry charge duel, lances pierced through the chest armor of the Holy Gun Cavalry, while hammer spears heavily struck the helmets of the Kasha Knights.

The speeding lead bullets charged together with the Holy Gun Cavalry, and the continuous sound of clashing weapons echoed as broken blades flew through the air.

The cavalry engagement is different from infantry; if infantry clash like two walls colliding, then the cavalry engagement is akin to shuttles weaving back and forth on a loom.

After the first overlapping charge, Maure rallied the Kasha Knights again with a shout.

After turning their horses around, the Holy Gun Cavalry aligned themselves with unexpected speed, clashing and colliding once more with the Kasha Knights.

The speeding hammer spears and lances continuously crossed, occasionally accompanied by a sudden gunshot, followed by a knight clutching his throat or chest as he fell.

The horizontal lightning is the nightmare of the knights, easily flipping both man and horse or piercing the brain of an unarmored attendant knight.

The scorching lightning melted chain mail into molten iron, which flowed onto the ground, causing the warhorses to neigh in distress.

Their fur stood on end, and even the trained warhorses revealed their most timid nature in the face of lightning.

"Witch, mark of the devil! Demon's harlot!" The leading old knight Maure couldn't help but curse aloud after tallying the dead and wounded knights for the second time.

Out of more than eighty knights, currently, only over fifty remain, with over twenty either fleeing or rendered combat ineffective.

From a glance, the opposing Holy Gun Cavalry seem to have suffered fewer casualties.

Clutching ribs bruised by the Witch Warhammer, Maure angrily watched the Holy Gun Cavalry arranging their formation at an extraordinary speed.

They were merely attendant knights, whom Maure wouldn't have even glanced at in the past, yet today they had rendered him in such a miserable state.

The confusion Maure felt during the battle was actually quite simple.

When a knight charges, to ensure his lance can accurately thrust into the enemy's chest, he must maintain a consistent lance-holding posture.

But for the Holy Gun Cavalry, they could adopt any stance to counter the lance's impact, even firing a shot and lying flat on the horse's back.

In this situation, unless the Extraordinary Knights drew swords for close combat, it was difficult to harm the Holy Gun Cavalry lying on the horse's back.

This meant the lighter armored, faster moving Holy Gun Cavalry were more agile than the regular knights.

Three disciplined cavalry squads, seemingly championing courage, managed to inflict casualties on over twenty opponents while incurring only single-digit losses, despite their breath control and extraordinary martial arts generally being inferior to the enemy.

Though the Kasha Knights outnumbered the reinforcing Holy Gun Cavalry, the latter always succeeded in ensuring numerical supremacy in actual engagements.

In other words, many Kasha Knights didn't even unleash their combat prowess, merely serving as cheerleaders.

Maure could clearly sense the morale of the knights around him wavering, most evidently from the slowing charge speed of the knights in the front row.

With his chin raised, Maure saw clearly through the slit of his kettle helmet that the Foot Knights had penetrated the doorway.

The door had never closed, leaving only the thinnest line of defense.

Seeing Xiaochi City almost breached, should they run at this point?

Such a reward lay just ahead, if driven away by these peasant knights, Maure's years of accumulated honor and reputation would be completely tarnished.

Most of the Kush people in Kasha County had vouched for Blago Monastery, and as a Kush Knight, Maure was already under heavy pressure and suspicion.

If defeated by the Salvation Army here, the high price Maure paid would utterly go to waste.

Grinding his teeth, Maure shouted to those around him: "Pass the word, follow me as vanguard against that witch, shoot arrows when close, ignore other cavalry."

With a brief command, over fifty knights set off once more, yet their momentum was noticeably weaker compared to the first time.

Sprint, accelerate, charge!

Heat-laden wind poured the suffocating moisture into Maure's mouth and nose, as he bent down and raised his lance, breathing rhythmically.

"Release arrows!"

At thirty paces distance, Maure shouted loudly.

Dozens of arrows soared like waves, swarming Jeanne and her warhorse, Carrot.

"Your Highness!" Kolebo exclaimed, disregarding the condition of his horse, he spurred its flank directly with his boot spurs, rushing toward Jeanne.

Encased in the arrow rain, Jeanne reached out with her callused hand, a vast white light gathered in her palm, as tiny blue electrical snakes screamed and bit at the arrows.

White smoke rose from the arrow shafts, like moths flying into the flames, each long arrow shooting into the glow.

Among dozens of arrows, every one that could potentially harm Jeanne fell as soon as it entered the electric serpent area.

Right after the white light, Maure's warhorse suddenly leapt into the air, galloping with its hooves suspended.

"Yaaa——"

Muscles rippled and twitched like waves, transforming the warhorse's speed under him into the lance's impact force from waist and back to right hand.

As the white light faded, the lance pierces through the air with the stench of rotten eggs toward Jeanne's chest.

The Saintess was a moment late, the shaft of her banner lance bending into a semi-circle under the tremendous force, thrusting towards the charging Maure.

Tips of the lances collided, sparks flying, the sound of the wooden shafts fraying like a snake hissing.

The two long lances skewed and pierced past each other, Jeanne crouched low, slightly tilting her head as her shoulder shrugged.

The lance grazed past the reversed slope of her breastplate, close enough to brush her ear, just a hair's breadth away from her earlobe.

In the blink of an eye, the two crossed each other amidst the metallic clash of friction.

Jeanne pulled her banner lance back with her right hand, giving it a casual shake, and scarlet "wine" was shook out from the golden goblet on the battle flag.

The sound of blood and weight hitting the ground echoed behind Jeanne, as the old knight, like countless rookie knights, clutched his heart and slid off the horse.

With his back to the clay ground, he lowered his head, looking at the armor pierced through his chest, bewildered and incredulous as he gazed towards the sky.

His eyes were already hazy, his throat covered in a sweet and metallic taste, yet in his mind still echoed the refrain of "impossible."

This instant duel of lances relied only on instinct and control of breath and extraordinary martial skills.

No tricks, no strategies, purely a battle of lance techniques.

Still, he lost, even the chief among local banner knights couldn't defeat him this way.

Yet this blonde girl accomplished it, meaning this young girl before him had somehow touched the edge of an Imperial Knight.

She's only seventeen!

Kolebo, charging at Jeanne, galloped slower and slower until the horse's hooves touched the hem of Maure's garment.

He stared in shock at the old knight on the ground, facing the sky, eyes vacant, calves twitching unconsciously on the ground.

Only then did Kolebo suddenly realize, despite Jeanne often using lightning as a weapon, people tended to forget she also had extraordinary martial prowess.

Only a few old soldiers from Gulag knew Jeanne herself was a knight with monstrous talent.

Even without the lightning powers, this lady knight trained by Saint Danji could, on sheer strength alone, suppress all knights below the Imperial decree.

The most terrifying part is, from a common brute village girl to her current level, Jeanne took just one year.

The sound of gunshots rang out again, five or six knights mournfully falling off their horses, the third cavalry clash between the two sides had ended.

This time, the cavalry who crossed past each other were supposed to turn and fight again after a hundred meters.

But seemingly to gain further battlefield space, they thought a hundred meters might not be enough, maybe further, like a thousand or two thousand meters could be a better option.

From the stunned gaze of the paladin knights dismounted at the city gate, the remaining knights kicked up dust as they turned, running farther.

Soon after, they disappeared in a flash behind the slopes and trees.

No way, if you guys are fleeing, what about us?

Answering their inner fears were the approaching Day Greetings clubs and flying crossbow arrows.

"Kolebo, Kolebo!"

Awakened from his stupor, Jeanne, with her lower body twisted to the right by the warhorse, shouted to Kolebo with her head turned left, "Sound the horn."

"Sound what horn?"

"Of course, the reinforcement horn," Jeanne nudged her helmet upwards, revealing a radiant smile, "Didn't you see it?"

Following Jeanne's direction, Kolebo squinted and looked for a few seconds before realizing and nodding.

Between the hills and trees, over a hundred Holy Gun Cavalrymen's helmets formed a continuous line, charging towards them.

This was the second batch of Holy Gun Cavalry, with third and fourth batches, they would all arrive before dusk.

This initially most perilous encounter ended within half an hour under Jeanne's lightning.

"Toot toot toot——"

Pulling out a small trumpet from his waist, Kolebo puffed his cheeks, forcefully spreading the spirited sound of the horn across the battlefield.
