When the Saintess Arrives, No King Exist

Chapter 360 Black Mountain Battle (Initial Battle End)

"Praise the Holy Wind!"

The whistling of the air stream through the balance hole traveled from the left wing all the way to the right wing. Wherever the whistle appeared, a Holy Gunman could be seen jerking backward sharply.

The firing rod and gun barrel rubbed violently, sparks even spouted from the gun muzzle.

80 rounds in front, 40 rounds crossed on both sides, 120 rounds sped through the air. With the kneeling forward and standing back firing stance, the barrage was even thicker.

The clattering sounds of bullets and armor clashes left both knights and horses in panic.

The knight command line that had been sprinting suddenly paused.

The knights in the front row let out horrifying screams, the warhorses whined and reared up, while gushes of blood rain kept rising one after another.

These knights seemed to have been struck by an invisible heavy hammer; some were even exaggeratedly flung into the air.

The knights in the rear remained unaware, some unable to rein in their horses stumbled over the corpses of the horses, while others chaotically charged over fallen knights, only then reining in their horses to look around.

Nearly twenty Extraordinary Knights lay sprawled on the ground and on horseback, clutching their chests or arms, wounds exposing shattered armor pieces and squirming flesh.

The remaining knights frantically searched around for the enemy.

"Is it the Devil Wind? Take cover!"

"It's all blown over, what to hide from?"

"Hurry, charge, the Saint Master will protect us."

"Have the Priest cast spells, charging for what?"

Just as the Extraordinary Knights tried to reorganize amidst the chaos, Victor again issued orders: "Holy Gunmen, fire while retreating, fall back to the rear of the lance phalanx."

Actually, firing while retreating or advancing meant staying put, so Victor added a phrase directing the Holy Gunmen's direction.

Amidst the clattering of armor and chest plates, the first row of Holy Gunmen stood up using short supports, hung the short supports at waist level, and turned to walk toward the back through spaces in the column.

The Holy Gunmen in the second row behind them put away their gun racks, followed the first row of Holy Gunmen, and headed backward.

After the first two rows of Holy Gunmen passed through the aisle, the last three rows all moved forward five steps.

As the Holy Gunmen finished firing and used spirit-awakening salts, the first two rows of Holy Gunmen once more stood and took aim at the knights ahead.

On this roughly 5° sloped slope, while the Ibe Knights hesitated, the second round of gunfire began.

With a "snap," a branch clattered onto the Ibe Knights' helmets.

Whizzing bullets pierced through thickets, and once more the cracking of exploding beans resounded, shards of plates shattered amidst human wails.

Since this time they shot at stationary targets, a whole twenty people standing still got hit.

Facing nearly twenty percent casualties right away, a situation they hadn't encountered during previous suppression of mobs.

As the effects of potions faded, suppressed fear and anxiety surged back up.

They came to serve and claim spoils, dying here without even leaving a chance for ransom would be a huge loss.

Someone quietly stepped back a few steps, in mere seconds the psychological defenses of these Ibe Knights crumbled like real formations.

The Cuirassiers cheered as they burst from the side of the battle formation, chasing the Ibe Knights like a tide.

Their main targets were knights lightly injured who fell from horses and knights trying to leave together carrying the severely injured.

These Extraordinary fellas were too hard to kill, ran unbelievably quick, had it not been for the Cuirassiers, killing truly completed knights in these two rounds wouldn't have been even a third.

For slow-moving infantry, aside from reconnaissance and harassment, Cuirassiers' major role was pursuit and finishing.

......

In front of the slope, arrows flew back and forth, sometimes rising from below to come down on top, sometimes rising from above to come down below.

Emerald grassland covered with broken arrows, the Kush Knights fired swiftly and forcefully side by side.

Two or three hundred meters away at highlands, 150 Old Forest Patrol Officers and Hunter-made archers were engaging in volley exchanges with Kush Knights.

Yet until now, there wasn't anyone injured from their shooting.

"Retreat?"

Domenico shot an arrow toward the towering slope, glimpsed the smoke and dust of the central army out of the corner of his eye, then turned back questioning the squire knights.

Despite Domenico leading knights in the charge, they didn't attack the central army together; instead, they charged toward the right wing (Horn's left wing).

Probably because the attack was on the relatively steeper high ground of the right side (Hakuto Left Wing Army), their speed wasn't great.

The Ibe Knights clashed with the Salvation Army, yet they were still exchanging arrows with archers on the mountainside and high ground.

"Yes, already retreated."

"Did the Salvation Army pursue?"

"No."

"Alright, family!" Domenico shouted toward a bunch of relatives beside him, "Three arrows before heading back, fulfilling responsibilities to Zelaken and Lord Nidesar, let's leave."

"Leave?" Surging too far, several young injured Kush knights inquired incredulously.

Riding alongside warhorses to Domenico's side: "Fourth uncle, haven't charged yet, why leave?"

Domenico pulled an arrow from their armor, stuck it in the crevice of his shoulder plates: "Wait for what? Feast huh?"

"No, but why?" A stubborn young Kush knight tugged Domenico's reins, "Explain fully, I won't leave unless clarified."

"Revolting, let go!"

"Clarify against, this concerns knight's honor."

"Tsk!"

Domenico clicked his tongue, explaining to the stubborn Kush knights: "Think it through, we only have four scenarios.

The first: Ibe Army wins, we exert effort, lose a load of folks, suffer tons of injuries.

Ask your households, in such situations, will we earn glory?"

The young Kush knights intended to argue but reconsidered recalling family chats, fell silent.

"Second: Ibe Army wins, no effort exerted, earn no glory, suffer no loss, ideal.

Third: Ibe Army loses, the worst scenario.

We exert effort, lose many, suffer bruises, then guess whose heads blame lands on?

Can't be Lord Nidesar's fault, not Archbishop Jinhe's fault; guess whose fault?"

"No guessing, ours." A middle-aged oily Kush knight walked along, saying, "Who doesn't have youthful martial ardor, it's not cowardice, valor isn't useful."

"Fourth: Ibe Army loses, no effort exerted, no loss, but Salvation Army states, Kush people won't fight Kush people..."

Domenico chuckled twice: "Our folks safely in Joan of Arc Castle; countless knights tied, stripping titles yet lives preserved.

Even if Salvation Army falters, preserving power, losing gravely, they'd rely upon us, we'd no longer be fish on a chopping board then!"

First timers on the battlefield, these Kush knights seemed to have their worldview overhauled, murmuring again staying silent following Domenico's stride.

As did their older generations; knights under Domenico all pretty much the same.

"Fourth uncle, all these your own thoughts?" a young Kush knight inquired.

Domenico initially ignored, then, annoyed answering: "Grandmother told me, now reassured?"

Kush knights leisurely descended slopes, reaching battle formation as the central army messenger hurriedly arrived.

"What did Lord Zelaken instruct?"

"It's Lord Nidesar," the messenger corrected, "Orders regroup after reform not attacking highlands, flank attack enemy left wing without delay!"

"Lord Nidesar now?" Grabbing the order, Domenico seized the departing messenger.

"Lord Nidesar spotted opportunity, flanking to attack enemy right wing!"
