Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste

Chapter 416: Conversation Between the Two

"Welcome! Welcome!" Perfikot expressed genuine enthusiasm for Kallen's arrival, clasping her hand with a smile on her face: "I have been waiting for your visit!"

Confronted with Perfikot's warm welcome, Kallen was pleased and said, "I really wanted to visit you, but I've been entangled by various matters until recently, which delayed my visit to the Northern Territory! I'm truly sorry!"

Kallen's apology was sincere; she indeed felt regret for taking so long to see Perfikot.

But as she mentioned, she had been wrapped up in too many things previously and couldn't visit the Northern Territory as soon as she had hoped.

"No need to apologize, as long as you're here!" Perfikot was very courteous, not concerned about Kallen's apology, and instead comforted her: "You must be exhausted from your journey. I'll have someone prepare hot water for you. Take a bath and rest well first! Once you are rested, we can chat more. No rush, we have plenty of time."

Though eager to confide in Kallen, Perfikot could clearly see the unmistakable fatigue on Kallen's face.

Moreover, when she held Kallen's hands, she could noticeably feel their coldness and the calluses on her palms, which were quite unbecoming for a noble lady.

Perfikot immediately deduced that Kallen must have had a very difficult time recently.

This made Perfikot feel a surge of compassion for Kallen, wishing to let her rest well.

Faced with Perfikot's enthusiasm, Kallen did not refuse. Indeed, along the way she had accumulated too much fatigue. Only when facing Perfikot did she feel she could lay down the burdens she carried and truly rest.

Guided by a maid, Kallen arrived at a guest room. The maid quickly prepared hot water for her to bathe, which somewhat surprised Kallen.

After all, in this era, bathing was a troublesome affair, even for nobility. Preparing hot water takes time.

Curiously, Kallen asked the maid about it, and the maid simply smiled, stating that it's just standard procedure at the Lord's manor; since the onset of winter, hot water has always been readily available.

Moreover, not only the Lord's manor, but the whole city of Chernobyl has been supplying hot water since winter began, although not continuously like the Lord's manor, but rather intermittently at specific time intervals.

This has greatly improved the lives of Chernobyl's citizens.

Kallen was greatly surprised; she hadn't expected the level of living standards in Chernobyl to be that high, with hot water supplied within the city!

Even with hot water supplied only intermittently each day, it is a huge relief for ordinary people, considering the considerable expense of daily fire heating.

This admiration of Perfikot increased for Kallen; regardless of how she achieved it, providing such welfare to the people is certainly worthy of praise.

With these thoughts, Kallen immersed herself in the bathtub. The gentle warmth of the water enveloped her body, soothing her, seemingly dissolving all her fatigue.

This comfort caused Kallen to involuntarily close her eyes...

After enjoying a soothing hot bath and a nap in the soft, warm, and comfortable velvet bed, Kallen awoke again as evening descended.

Kallen put on the clean clothes the maid brought, which, though light and delicate, unexpectedly felt warm and comfortable on her.

"Miss Kallen, the Lord invites you to dine." The maid knocked on her door, informing her that Perfikot invited her to dinner.

"One moment, I'll be right there." Kallen said while dressing up and stepping out of the room.

Kallen found no surprise in the maid's timely reminder upon her awakening; it is a fundamental skill any well-trained maid should have.

"Please follow me, the Lord is already waiting for you in the dining room." The maid bowed to Kallen and then turned to guide her to the manor's dining room.

The grand and luxurious Lord's manor left Kallen somewhat dazzled; though her family could also be considered noble, compared to Perfikot's high position, it was insignificant.

Her household was indeed affluent compared to ordinary people. Kallen was attended by maids regularly, but her family only had one cook, a gardener, and two maids.

Among the two maids, one serves as the household manager responsible for everything, while the other is a personal maid assigned exclusively to Kallen because she is female.

Yet within the grand Lord's manor, just the short trip from the guest room to the dining room, Kallen sensed at least a dozen maids busy around her.

Of course, Kallen didn't actually see these maids; she merely detected their presence with her perceptive senses as an Extraordinary.

This made Kallen marvel at a Lord's lifestyle of luxury while also admiring the well-trained maids at Perfikot's manor.

One must know, a skilled maid typically remains undetected by her master under normal circumstances, thus minimizing any disturbance to the master she serves.
