Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste

Chapter 414 Kallen's "Friends

The train carrying goods stopped at the platform of Chernobog train station, and Kallen used her agility to leap off the train before it came to a complete halt.

The speed of trains in this era is not fast, so although this action carries some risk, it's not unusual for those who often deal with trains.

For some older folks who deal with trains, it's normal to run a few quick steps on the platform to catch up with a train or to jump off one that's still moving.

But even so, Jon, who jumped down with Kallen, still nagged her, "Kafka, jumping like that is really dangerous. What if you don't land steadily and fall over?"

"Alright, Jon, stop nagging like an old woman. The train's speed has slowed down, I won't fall," Kallen was clearly somewhat annoyed by Jon's excessive concern.

Though knowing it was out of kindness, Kallen disliked the feeling of being overly protected.

Kallen felt there was nothing different about her; she's just an ordinary person. If it weren't for Perfikot teaching her all the knowledge about workers' YD, she wouldn't have achieved her current success.

So even if anyone deserves respect, it would be Perfikot, who taught her all those workers' YD principles and knowledge, and silently propelled everything from behind, rather than herself who merely executed Perfikot's ideas.

Nonetheless, Kallen obviously couldn't reveal the relationship between Perfikot and the Workers' Federation to others, nor could she disclose that all the guidelines revered by the Workers' Federation were taught by Perfikot.

Even if she did say so, no one would believe it, but once such matters leak, the impact on Perfikot would be immense, potentially affecting her entire plan, and risking her safety and life.

Therefore, Kallen knew she could never tell anyone about this; it must remain a secret buried deep within her.

Unless one day their cause truly succeeds, and Perfikot could openly tell everyone about her relationship with the Workers' Federation, only then could Kallen reveal the secret.

So for now, Kallen had to silently endure all this and attempt to tell others not to give her any special treatment.

Because nominally they were just workers who came to the northern region with goods, even though Kallen couldn't wait to see Perfikot, she still had to unload all the goods from the train with other workers before she could leave the train station with them.

Standing on the snow-covered street, Kallen blew into her hands, trying to relieve her already frozen red hands.

In this era, there is no concept of labor protection; even in such cold winters, workers don't have warm gloves or similar items when working. Having a pair of ordinary gloves to prevent scratching hands while handling goods is already rare.

Even though others helped Kallen share her part of the work, she still moved quite a lot of goods herself to avoid any special treatment, which made her hands as red and frozen as the others.

"Kafka, we've talked to the foreman. There's another batch of goods coming from Pignes Castle in three days, and we'll take that train back then," Jon came to Kallen and said quietly.

They didn't come to the northern territory openly, but used the guise of accompanying the transport of goods.

Though they passed through the necessary channels, such matters require a low profile, so they could not stay in the northern territory too long.

"Three days... should be enough. Jon, you find a place for the comrades to settle down. I'm going to see a friend. We'll meet here at the train station in three days," Kallen said before planning to leave alone.

She was going to meet Perfikot, and obviously couldn't bring anyone else along.

However, Jon was very uneasy about this, quickly telling Kallen, "Being alone in the northern territory is too dangerous. Let Ed go with you; it'll be convenient if you need an errand done."

Ed was Jon's nephew, a very diligent young man whom Jon was quite fond of. He brought Ed along specifically for this trip.

Having Ed accompany Kallen was Jon's hope to have a trustworthy person by Kallen's side so that if anything happens, there's at least someone to help, rather than having her trapped alone without anyone to relay messages.

Being addressed, Ed appeared quite excited. Kallen had a high reputation in the Workers' Federation, and young workers like him all longed to work by her side; it was a tremendous honor for them.

However, Kallen shook her head and said, "No need. The friend I'm meeting is very special; I can't let anyone know there's a connection between them and us. Otherwise, it would be a very bad situation for both of us."

To disguise, Kallen deliberately used the male pronoun "he" to avoid letting anyone pick up clues from her words.

Hearing this, Jon frowned and asked, "Then should I go with you? I really don't feel safe with you alone here; after all, this is the northern region, the territory of the Scarlet Count!"

Jon really worried about Kallen being alone. In his view, the northern region was more dangerous than a dragon's pit. Just from standing on the street after leaving the train station, they had already seen two teams of police and a team of city guards pass by, with even two steam knights at the train station entrance!

In such a perilous environment, Kallen was still being sought by authorities. If anything happened, he would regret it endlessly.

But Kallen directly rejected him and smiled, saying, "No need, Jon. Just take care of everyone else! I can't guarantee other places, but I'm sure I won't encounter danger in the northern territory; my friend can ensure this."

Hearing this, Jon couldn't help but have some strange thoughts. He suspected the friend Kallen was talking about might be someone of high power and influence in the northern territory, otherwise, she wouldn't say her friend could ensure her safety.

However, Jon didn't have much knowledge about the northern region, thus couldn't guess who Kallen's friend might be.

So he could only say helplessly, "Alright, then be careful and stay safe! If anything happens, try to get word to the train station here somehow. I'll have Ed wait here the next two days."

Ed nodded quickly; although he couldn't stay by Kallen's side, he hoped to do something for her.

"Though it may not be necessary, if you think it is," Kallen thought for a moment but didn't refuse Jon's good intention.
