-Radiant-
I stopped where I was and looked up at the adventurer's guild in front of me.
It was the day of the test, and I was anticipating the new experience.
I shook off some of the last minute jitters and walked out into the large open area in front of the adventurer's guild building. Unlike most places in this city, the airspace above the adventurer's guild was completely open to the sky, along with most of the area around it. That was because the adventurer's guild was located near the Dungeon in the center of the city, and the Dungeon apparently didn't like people building much of anything above, around, or below its spherical entrance. That wasn't to say that people talked to the Dungeon and got its opinion on this matter; the Dungeon just didn't create any material spheres in the area, and very slowly ate away at anything it didn't want there.
The material spheres that were used as building anchor points throughout the city were absent here, and thus nobody could easily build anything above, below, and in an area around the Dungeon's entrance, leaving ample sunlight to appreciate the unique view in front of me.
In front of me there were four large half-cylinder rivers of water, flowing through the open air towards a pitch black spherical void in the center of the area. There were guardrails at the border between the walkable ground and the open area around the Dungeon entrance; allowing me to see the column of water rushing out of the bottom of the spherical void and into the void below, like some kind of hungry maw guzzling a rushing river down its throat.
On the four half cylinder rivers, were floating walkways that had early morning adventurers walking on them and into the Dungeon entrance, probably ready to start their day of Dungeoneering.
It was quite the unique sight to behold, and I took my time to enjoy it.
After standing there for a while, more people started to arrive in the square and head towards the adventurer's guild. Most of these people were around my age or younger than me, and I could tell that these would probably be my fellow test takers.
I wasn't in a rush, so I took my time enjoying the unique view until the flow of people into the Adventurer's guild slowed down to almost nothing. As I was getting ready to head in myself, I caught sight of a young teenager, probably around sixteen or seventeen, with their mouth wide open at the scene I had just been appreciating.
My initial reaction was just to ignore him like I always did with strangers. However, my recent doubts about myself made me stop for a moment. My natural behavior these past few days hasn't worked out all that well for me. I tried to be more conscious of my actions with Genesis after my mess up with that shopkeeper guy in the train station. But maybe I should try to practice my social interaction skills here, when there aren't any major consequences? It's a bit daunting, but since when was I afraid of a sixteen year old?
I hesitated for a bit, but in the end I decided to go up and talk to the kid. He was a bit shorter than me, and his upbeat energy made it seem like he had a golden aura around him. But as I walked closer to him, I started to see that he actually did have a faint golden aura around him. Given the fact that he didn't look to be from a wealthy family, and his general awe at his surroundings, I was pretty sure that the golden aura didn't come from some kind of magical artifact.
Arriving next to him, I stopped my inspection of his strange aura, and said, "Hello. Are you here for the Adventurer's guild test too?"
The kid stopped gaping at his surroundings and focused on me with a casual smile, "Hello there mister. As a matter of fact, I am here to take the test. I just arrived in the city last night, so I'm not one hundred percent certain, but that building over there is the building where the test is taking place right?"
He pointed towards the Adventurer's guild, and I nodded saying, "That's right. Uh-" I paused for a moment trying to think of what to say next. "W-what's your name? I'm Experience Silver."
"Experience? As in knowledgeable and stuff? That's a cool name, you must've come up with that name because you're a wizard right? Or at least I assume you're a wizard. My Mom told me that wizards have various strange and magical features. Your eyes and hair are very unique, so you must be a wizard right? Oh, my name's Lucky by the way. Or it will be on my Adventurer's license."
"Right, well actually Experience isn't my name, it's the name that's going to be on my Adventurer's license too."
"Really? Cool."
He put his hand out and I shook it politely.
He said, "My Mom told me to not bother any wizards after I came to this city, but since you talked to me first it should be alright, right?" He didn't give me the chance to respond as he kept talking, "Well I'm a pretty good judge of character, and I get the feeling that you're alright to talk to. Hopefully we can work together in the test, that is of course if that's alright with you?"

I didn't know what to say next, so I scrambled a bit in my mind before saying, "W-well, sure I guess, The uh- the test is going to start soon, so we should probably get going."
Lucky seemed to almost jump at my words, "Oh, thanks! Well we should hurry up then." He pointed into the air, "Don't wanna be late!"
He ran off like something was chasing him, and I chuckled. "It must be nice having so much youthful enthusiasm."
I breathed out as I too walked towards the Adventurer's guild, though with much less vigor than Lucky. That wasn't too bad I think. Now I just need to do that about a thousand more times, and I'll be as experienced as Lucky thought my name would suggest, right?
Walking through one of the many pairs of doors leading to the lobby, it took me no time at all to find out where I should go. With my shoes tapping against the tiles, I made my way towards a clearly temporary table with someone sitting behind it. On the front of this table was a sign that said 'TEST FOR NEW ADVENTURERS. START HERE.'
I saw Lucky in front of the table, talking to the person behind it. It was an older woman he was talking to, and she handed him something without looking up. I heard Lucky loudly say, "Thanks!" as he grabbed whatever was given to him off the table and ran off.
I didn't have to walk far before I arrived at the table where Lucky had just been, and I could hear the receptionist who had been talking to Lucky, and she was still talking while looking through her bag beside her chair, presumably still talking to Lucky.
"-so if you have any questions ask them now."
I didn't know what Lucky had missed after he ran off, but there was nothing I could do about that now. Seeing that the receptionist hadn't noticed that Lucky ran off, I said, "Excuse me miss, but I'm afraid that the person you were talking to has left already."
The receptionist turned her head my way in surprise while pulling out a water bottle from a backpack on the floor.
"Huh?" She looked around, "Where did he-" She seemed to catch a glimpse of Lucky just as he rounded a corner down a hallway and disappeared out of sight.
Seeing this she said, "Oh no, that's not the right direction. That's the way to administration, not the way to the testing site."
I chuckled, "Well, Lucky doesn't seem like someone who will let themselves stay lost. I'm sure he'll find his way there somehow."
"I hope that's the case. It's not like I can run after him with these weak bones. I also have to stay here to help with registration." She turned to me while taking a drink of water, and after she finished said, "Speaking of registration, can I help you with anything?"
"Actually, yes. What do I need to do? The sign says start here, so I assume there's something I need to do here."
She put her water bottle down and said, "You're looking to take the test?" I nodded and seeing this she continued, "Alright, well I'll need your ID and a payment of 500 credits. There are exceptions for the payment, if you need it. Oh, and I'll also need the alias you'll be using should you become an Adventurer."
An ID? That's what I'm here to get, I don't have one yet!
"Ah, well, actually my friend said he'd register me beforehand."
"Beforehand?" She slightly raised her eyebrows, "You must be important if that's the case. Not just anybody can recommend others. What's the name?"
"Experience Silver."
"Okay, let me look it up real quick."
She picked up a cell she had laying face down on the table and started to navigate through whatever she was looking for on it. Eventually she nodded and said, "Yes, an Experience Silver has indeed been registered already."
She put her cell face down on the table again, "That means I don't need your ID or the fee. However I'll still need to get your Adventurer's name, then I can give you a nametag to help those who are administering the test today and you'll be good to go.."
"I'll just use Experience Silver."
"Using your real name? A bit old fashioned huh? Nowadays everyone likes to use their New World name or something else. I guess it's not that uncommon to use your real name, though that usually applies to older adventurers, not youngsters like yourself."
Youngster? I'm older than you are, lady! Though I guess it's more about the time period one was born than the actual age? Since the New World appeared before I was born, I guess I really don't have any experience of a time before it existed.
"Well, I guess I am a bit old fashioned. I don't have much experience in the New World either, I've always been more interested in magic I guess."
She smiled, "Hoho, I can tell. It's not often we get wizards trying to become an Adventurer. Especially not young wizards like yourself. Most of them tend to go to a magic academy or something similar."
She handed me a nametag with my name written on it in clear letters.
"Anyways, here's your nametag." She described the directions to the test chamber before letting me take the nametag. Probably still remembering how Lucky had run off after getting his. And she finished by saying, "-so if you have any questions ask them now."
I shook my head as I took my nametag, "I think I'm good. Thank you for your hard work."
"Thank you. Have a good day."
I nodded, and with that I walked away in the right direction while sticking the nametag to my chest. Although I thought about going after Lucky, I dismissed the idea. I didn't really know the kid, and he wasn't my responsibility either. Besides, I had kind of already helped him out. If I hadn't talked to him and told him it was almost time, he might've still been outside gawking at the scenery.
I nodded to myself and my self justified logic.
Right now it was time to focus on the test. Lucky would be able to handle things on his own.
