At this moment, Niel had just awakened from her deep sleep. Her entire body ached. Glancing at the darkening sky, she managed a bitter smile.
Dean is too intense.
Even with her own arduous training recently, she was still no match for him.
That guy is a beast. Unbearable, truly unbearable...
DING-A-LING.
Just then, Niel's phone on the bedside table rang.
Seeing it was a call from Dean, Niel rolled her eyes.
No way! If this continues, I'll die!
Niel was no longer a little girl. Recently, she had asked her mother for advice on how to keep a man. She knew that a man's love for a woman stemmed not only from emotional needs but also from physical ones. If either was lacking, problems would arise in the relationship!
So, I have to think of a solution!
As she was thinking, Niel suddenly remembered that her mother's company had recently hired a group of new models...
And so, when Dean returned to the hotel, a bewildered Niel, limping, led him to the adjacent suite. "Dean," she said, "I'm not feeling well, so I've prepared some little gifts for you tonight."
"Not feeling well?"
Dean initially wanted to show concern for Niel, but seeing her shy expression, he immediately understood and said with amusement, "Don't get the wrong idea. I'm not a bull in heat. Being able to close my eyes and embrace you as I drift off to sleep, or open my eyes and watch the sunrise with you—that's already one of life's greatest pleasures!"
"Dean~"
Niel was so moved by Dean's sweet nothings that her eyes welled up with tears.
Before this, she had worried that Dean would find someone new and forget about her.
Now, that thought is completely gone! This man before me can be trusted!
She nestled into Dean's embrace, lifting her head...
After an enthusiastic exchange of words and kisses, Niel stroked Dean's face, somewhat reluctantly. "Alright, Dean," she said, "go check out the room downstairs. That's the gift I prepared for you. Don't feel burdened. I love you so much. As long as I'm in your heart, I'm willing to make any compromise for you!"
Ah, this... Dean thought. Niel is acting strange today.
To be honest, in terms of affection, this girl was unlike the typically enthusiastic American girls or the passionate women of the Commonwealth. She possessed the gentleness of a traditional Chinese woman, the submissiveness of traditional Japanese women, and also a touch of the independence of a strong female leader.
Just perfect.
He embraced Niel tenderly, kissed her forehead, and placed her little head against his chest, right over his heart. "Although I don't know why you're so sentimental today," he said softly, "I can tell you for sure that since you've been with me, you belong only to me. In sickness and in health, in life or death, I will never abandon you."
Listening to the strong, steady heartbeat in Dean's chest, Niel mumbled, "Is this a marriage vow?"
"Yes. In spirit, you are already my wife!"
The two whispered sweet nothings to each other.
A few moments later, with a sweet smile on her face, Niel was coaxed to sleep.
Only after she had fallen soundly asleep did Dean carefully place her on the bed and cover her with the blanket. Then, full of curiosity, he left the room and walked towards the neighboring suite.
I wonder what Niel is up to today, he mused.
The exclusive female attendant outside the suite, upon seeing Dean approach, immediately greeted him warmly. "Mr. Dean, Ms. Niel has prepared a wonderful evening for you!"
"It sounds very exciting and intriguing. Could you give me a hint?"
The attendant chuckled and shook her head. She turned, her back to Dean, bent slightly to open the suite door, then gave him a seductive look, hinting, "I am the exclusive attendant for this suite. If you need anything, Mr. Dean, you can also call me in to help."
After saying this, she stepped aside again.
Damn, why does it feel like there's an orgy waiting for me in there? Dean muttered to himself. Niel wouldn't do something this outrageous, would she?
With a rare sense of nervousness, he pushed open the door that the attendant had opened.
Under the glittering chandeliers of the suite, seven or eight tall women with model-like figures lay languidly on the carpet, awaiting their master for the night...
Dean took a deep breath and silently prayed, Endurance, add points!
At that moment, a warm current surged through him.
Dean's Endurance attribute finally reached its limit of 15 points!
Feeling the explosive energy welling up inside him, Dean clenched his fists.
I can't let Niel's kindness go to waste!
With the tragic resolve of a hero marching to his doom, he walked into the room that was about to become a veritable meat grinder!
「The next day, at 6 a.m.」
Dean emerged from the room refreshed. He took out a fifty-pound note and stuffed it into the collar of the female attendant who had stood guard all night, her eyes ringed with dark circles. "Did Ms. Niel leave her room last night?" he asked.
The attendant shook her head, her eyes filled with resentment.
This man is a beast in human form!
The sound insulation of the presidential suite was quite good, but that only applied to sounds from outside the suite. This wing had one apartment per elevator stop, with separate inner and outer doors.
Poor her. As the room's attendant, she had stood at the inner door, listening to the blare of the trumpet all night. Many times, she had barely resisted the urge to rush in and join the battle that was destined to be recorded in the hotel's annals.
Seeing the female attendant looking exhausted, Dean, feeling a pang of guilt, stuffed another fifty pounds into her hand and instructed, "Bring three—no, four—servings of steak to the suite downstairs."
Endurance simply means I recover quickly. The 1V8 drained a lot of my stored energy; I need to replenish.
The female attendant said, "...Your appetite, much like your stamina, is truly enviable."
"Thanks for the compliment!" Dean offered a slight smile and headed toward the elevator.
The female attendant wanted to help him press the elevator button, but she realized that after listening to that trumpet all night, her slender legs had become weak and numb; she couldn't walk properly.
Helplessly, all she could do was watch Dean's steady, powerful back and silently curse him. Non-human! What woman could handle such a beast?
When he returned to his room, Niel was still fast asleep. She must have been having a pleasant dream, as a sweet smile graced her lips.
Dean affectionately pinched her nose. He then walked to the window, watched the sun slowly rise in the east, lit a cigarette, and, with a hand over his heart, smiled faintly through the smoke.
Niel must have been utterly exhausted two days ago. She had slept all day yesterday and then through the entire night. So, when Dean received a call from Carol, Niel was only just groggily opening her eyes.
She saw Dean sitting by the bed, assembling gun parts.
With the distinctive, endearing voice of someone just woken up, she cooed, "Dean, are you going to be busy again?"
Dean leaned forward, gave her a gentle kiss, and said apologetically, "Niel, I came to the Commonwealth not only to see you but also to find out about my mentor's current situation. Once we're married, I'll spend every day with you!"
Hearing the word "marriage," Niel smiled sweetly and nodded with feigned composure. "It's okay, Dean. Go ahead with your work. I'll take you out to have fun tonight!"
After Dean left the room, Niel, balling her fists, bounced up from the bed and jumped around joyfully.
I bet right! I'm even happier that Dean seems so full of energy! He must have resisted temptation last night and not accepted the 'gift' I prepared!
Just as she was bursting with joy and had no way to vent it, RING! Her phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Niel's smile stiffened.
Mom's calling! Doomed. It must be because those models were absent today, so Mother found out what I arranged. But... if Dean hadn't touched those models, shouldn't they have left on their own by midnight? So...
"You rotten Dean!" Niel huffed, kicking a pillow away. She took a few seconds to compose herself, a faint air of competence emanating from her, and then answered the call...
Meanwhile, Dean was oblivious to the fact that he was about to face an inquiry from his future mother-in-law. He looked puzzled at Carol's sulking face in the car. "Didn't yesterday's case go well?"
"It went very smoothly!"
"Well, that's good, isn't it? And I suggest that when you have time, you investigate the carpenter mentor that Carman and Xiami had in common. That person is likely the one who led Xiami down the path of crime."
"Oh."
Dean fell silent. At that moment, he sensed a strong wave of jealousy from the thirteen-year-old Carol.
The elderly driver chuckled, looking at Dean. "You're in good shape, young man. Even though you haven't gone to the Akaz School yet, starting this morning, I reckon it'll take two or three days at most for everyone to know your great name!"
Dean's expression darkened. "So, you've been watching me all along?"
Carol glanced at Dean and sneered, "Don't flatter yourself. We only know about this because the hotel you and your little girlfriend are staying in is owned by our school!"
With that, she looked down. "I really envy you for having such a sweet and sensible girlfriend, actually arranging eight women for you. If you were an entertainment star, those tabloids would be ecstatic!"
Though Dean had a thick skin and a dark heart, he didn't like this awkward atmosphere. He had no choice but to change the subject. "Now that the case is almost handled, Carol, you can tell me about Anthony's situation, right?"
When it came to official business, Carol reluctantly fished out a file from her jacket and tossed it to Dean. "It's not just you; Anthony's family has been Tracking his whereabouts recently, too. This is our latest intelligence!"
Eagerly, Dean took the file and started reading through it.
According to the Akaz School's intelligence, Anthony and his family had set out in March for the Sahara Desert in Africa, in search of a gold treasure lost decades ago.
Humans may be insignificant before the power of nature, but with the support of modern technology, professional guides, and well-equipped teams, the once mysterious and dangerous desert was no longer as intimidating as in ancient times. Under normal circumstances, the probability of problems occurring was very low.
But on the ninth day after Anthony's group entered the desert, the support team waiting outside received one last, strange radio transmission. After that, the entire treasure-hunting expedition lost all contact...
