Jake didn't understand why someone would want to fight now, but then he realized something that he had forgotten, the first thing he learned about the Trials and Chosens — the Chosen will always try to take down the Chosen, because everyone is a competition on the path to winning.
"Honestly, I admire the fact that you want to fight me, but I doubt you have the strength for that," Jake said.
Crypt moved, intercepting the man and attacking. He thrust his spear so fast the man could barely react, but the spear didn't penetrate — it hit some sort of barrier and the man was immediately thrown back. He slammed into the wall and fell down to the ground.
'He managed to block that attack somehow. There was some sort of barrier. How did he do it?' Jake wondered.
The man got back on his feet, a clear look of disbelief written all over his face, because he didn't expect Crypt to be that strong.
He lifted his sword, gritted his teeth, and got into stance. The tip of his sword ignited with a flame that seemed so hot it could cut steel. The flame spread all over the sword and then compressed around it.
The sword glowed from the intense heat that was surrounding it. The man made a small slash with the sword, and the bookshelves next to him were immediately cut in two.
"I guess I'll have to take this fight seriously. If I get through your servant, I'll get to you and kill you," the man said.
"Is that what you believe? Ha. Crypt, make sure you make it hurt," Jake said.
"Will do, Master," Crypt replied, and right before the man's eyes, he vanished. The man looked around in a panic, trying to find Crypt.
"Raging Tornado."
The man heard the voice from above. He looked up and saw a literal tornado coming toward him. Instinctively, he jumped out of the way. The tornado hit the ground.
Boom
The explosion was so large that it threw the man several meters away and slammed him into a wall.
Crypt walked out of the dust that his attack created, his spear slightly behind him. He leaned forward and dashed.
Boom, the ground beneath his feet cracked and exploded as he ran. He shot straight for the man.
"Arghhhhh! Who the hell do you think you are?" the man roared and charged forward, meeting Crypt halfway. He slashed with all his strength, and Crypt blocked.
Boom
The collision sent shockwaves all over the library — bookshelves getting tossed around by the wind and paper getting burnt up by the heat generated.
And in the middle of the shockwave was Crypt and the man. The man's arm was covered in cuts, and blood was spilling out of it. His entire body was trembling, but he managed to stop Crypt's attack — something that didn't make sense.
"Master, this man was able to take most of the force from our collision somehow. He used that barrier to block it, but it shattered after a few seconds," Crypt told Jake.
"Hmmm. The possibility is that his Chosen Path has something to do with space, but we can't worry about that now. Take him down," Jake said.
"Understood," Crypt replied. He pushed down on the sword, and the man started crumbling under the force. His knee hit the ground as he struggled to push the spear back.
"Aghhhhhhhhh!" the man roared. A spatial force exploded from his body and threw Crypt back, along with everything around his body.
[Seems you are right. His ability must have something to do with space, and it seems he has unlocked some powerful abilities.]
"Indeed. But the stronger the ability, the stronger the drawback," Jake said, looking at the man. The man coughed a huge mouthful of blood, his veins bulged, looking like they would burst.
"His ability is powerful, but the effect it takes on a body, especially one not fully trained to handle it, is way too much," Jake said.
The man struggled back on his feet, his eyes blood red. He gripped his sword, engulfed in flame, and was ready to attack again, but his body screamed at him. He tried to take a step forward but collapsed down to his knee.
Crypt came back to stand beside Jake. They both watched as the man struggled with all his might to move, but the ability that he had used had heavily damaged his body. The backlash was too heavy.
Suddenly, someone moved from the top floor and landed on the first floor, beside the man that was on the ground.
"You held your own quite well, weakling, but this person before you isn't an enemy of your level," the new person said. He was a tall man with flowing black hair that he tied into a ponytail. His eyes were sharp yet elegant. He was dressed in a long black coat that reached his ankles.
He placed his hand on the man on the ground and lifted him by the hair. "Rest now," he said, and a dark purple energy came out of his hands. It slowly started consuming the man's body at a rapid rate. The man struggled but couldn't get away until all his body was consumed.
Jake watched this with shock written over his face, seeing the way that this man killed the other Chosen.
After the man was completely consumed, the man with the ponytail licked his lips. "A tasty treat. And two thousand points to add. Now that's what I call getting the best result with the smallest amount of effort.
"Though looking at the situation now, I'm sure I'll have to fight you as well. There is no way I'll allow a Chosen of your strength to walk freely. It's going to be a mighty issue in the future if you're allowed to keep gathering summons.
"So I'll have to end you here, and also gather the ten thousand points that you're going to offer. It's all wins for me," the man said with a smile.
