Otherworldly Trials [LITRPG Adventure]

Vol 4 Ch 14: Restless growth

Mikella felt her entire world shift for just a few seconds, then her body fell along with that world before realizing that she was on the ground.

Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as Zeke who went full on knocked out on the floor.

Everyone panicked and went over to his side, with some of them going over to Mikella to see how she was doing and perhaps understand what was going on.

They understood the concept of the soul link between them all, but without actually gaining experience points, they had a hard time figuring out who is linked with who at the moment. That was a whole can of worms they rather not get into until they got a decent amount of XP coming in, so they left it at that.

As for her, she only felt a rush of power she hadn't felt in over a long time, at least back during the time when she was leveling like crazy while going through her Class Madness debacle. It was only proven further when she received the notifications of her tons of levels coming in.

Level Up! You are now Level 75. You gain 16 free points (16 FP total).

You have gained +10 STR (x8) from your class and sub-race.

You have gained +10 (x8) DEX from your class and sub-race.

You have gained +5 INT (x8) from your sub-race.

You have gained +5 SPI (x8) from your sub-race.

You have gained +5 END (x8) from your class.

Seeing how many levels she gained, she can only imagine what Zeke went through when he was the one down and out while she managed to get picked up by Janet and Elly who helped her up.

"Is he okay? Is he dying!?" Elly, the sweet girl, lost her mind at the idea of a powerful Journeyman just dying out of nowhere.

"No, he's not dying," Mikella explained. She shook off the cobwebs in her mind before continuing. "I just leveled up like eight times myself."

"Eight times?!" Janet nearly shouted. "How?! You were just… there!"

"I know," Mikella tried to answer. "But Zeke should've gotten them a while ago. I figured he would have leveled up like mad after making that simulation room, but why did it took so long? And why is he down?"

"That was my fault."

Mikella and the others spun around to find none other than Tir who looked bashfully at the floor, his ears drooping. It would've looked cute while breaking her heart if he hadn't spoken like that into their minds.

"Tir…" Mikella said slowly, raising a brow. "What did you do?"

"I…I thought I was doing him a favor by withholding the levels and skill ups so that he can take it easy while handling the day-to-day life and after talking with Ceru, so seeing this, I figured it was about time for him to get it all. I also tried to make the choices for him on skill evolutions, thinking that maybe I can make it faster. But I didn't think that the rush of power and information would… uhh, make him faint. Sorry."

Mikella palmed her face, long enough to make sure Tir noticed it as he dropped his head further to the ground. She wasn't mad, at least on the surface. Sure, she was frustrated to hear all of that, but thinking about it further, it was bound to happen regardless.

If an outside entity who also has your skills managed to outdo you in ways you can't comprehend because they had no inhibitors limiting them, it was obvious that the skills would advance so fast that the original owner would face some serious backlash. Advancing was good, but in Zeke's case, the advancements came too fast, too hard, and now he ended up on the nearby sofa while the otherworlders tried to help him. He was completely knocked out, and it wasn't easy to knock the guy out unless something extreme happened–like this one for example.

"So Zeke got super strong really quickly?" Janet helped explain when Elly looked like she had no clue on what was happening. "And his mind couldn't handle it?"

"Pretty much," Tir explained. "Again, I'm sorry…"

"Tir, it's okay. Let's just wait for Zeke to recover before we talk about anything else."

…..

Eventually Zeke woke up from his mini-knock out session, which took around ten minutes of everyone losing their minds over the matter.

He took a bit of time to reassess himself, but eventually got to talk to Tir about the gains he made.

She wanted to throttle his neck after hearing how much he improved.

"So you maxed out five skills, including one Class Skill you recently got as a Journeymen, and you even got a Legendary skill out of a 'Skill Ascension'? Something that happens when one skill ranks up two tiers instead of one?"

Lyle explained in full, using his fingers to dictate each case, to the entire otherworlder group. Then he did something that pretty much everyone expected.

"Fuck you man. Seriously–fuck you, from all of us."

Nobody even disagreed, even shouting like 'boos' at Zeke while pretending to throw stuff at him like socks and pillows they had around the place. They were at the main living area, and some folks decided to sleep here instead of a bed when they got too tired from their training. There were often pillows and blankets strewn about here.

Zeke, being the good fellow he was, took it in stride and even had the audacity to smirk like a little bitch.

"Thank you, thank you. This was all my work. Yes, yes, I know I'm awesome."

"Nice try, putting on a Mikella impression, jackass," Janet called out, and Mikella looked at her in astonishment.

"Congrats, Zeke," Ceru said, pulling herself in front of him beyond the otherworlder crowd. "Pulling off a Skill Ascension at your age is normally considered prodigy level type shit. But seeing that it was all thanks to Tir kinda made it unfair."

"I feel the same, but I'm not gonna complain. I really want to try out all these skills. This one for instance–Synchronized Parallel Thought. Can this really do what it says it can do?"

"There are some limitations, but as long as you put in the willpower, it should work."

"Alright…"

Zeke turned to Mikella, and narrowed his eyes on her. After a few moments of staring, something shifted in her vision.

In the corner of her eye, a cute black puppy strode up in her vision, sitting down on his hindlegs as he stared with those big ole' eyes at her.

"Hi!"

"Holy shit!"

Mikella shouted, wanting to flinch and do something, but no matter where she moved, Tir just sat there at the corner of her vision, just staring at her in amusement.

"Zeke, are you doing this?!" Mikella called out. She turned to the real Tir, and now saw two Tirs staring at her. "Tir's in my head!"

"Huh, I was trying to talk to you in your mind, but I guess it doesn't work like that," Zeke said casually, ignoring Mikella's alarmed state, the bastard. "Tir, you can get into her mind now?"

"Yep!" Tir said, out in the real world and speaking to everyone's minds. "This was normally impossible, but thanks to Synchronized Parallel Thought, you can send me to someone else's mind to help them out. And from the looks of things–I can even share my skills with them!"

That got everyone to pause. Of course the otherworlders were pretty much tuning everything out, so they went ahead to do their own training while some were left behind to enjoy their very rare day off thanks to the Journeymen freaking out over this. Only Lyle, Janet, and Ceru were around, and they were the ones that stood stock still along with Zeke and Mikella.

"What do you mean share skills?" Zeke said slowly, but Mikella could tell in an instant that his heart was racing. "You mean exactly that?"

"Yep!" Tir nodded excitedly, his tail swishing about. "It looks like it only works on Mikky for now, but you can share Synchronized Parallel Thought, Steadfast Mind, and Enlightenment with her. Ooh… Oh! If she gives permission, she can transfer one of her own skills to me! That way I can share her skills with you! Ooh, this is great! There are so many things I want to try out."

"Wait a minute, wait a minute," Mikella shook her hands, her mind whirling at the information thrown at her. "I don't just get to use his skills, including a literal body type series skill, but I can also transfer my own skills so he can use it?"

"Yep! But, mmh…" Tir kept having that look on his face as though he was figuring this stuff out along with them, his face tilting and his ears flopping up and down rapidly. "It looks like I can't get another body series skill since I already got Enlightenment. So you can't transfer Acrobatics to me so that Zeke can use it."

"So… I got access to his Steadfast Mind, Parallel Thought, and Enlightenment?"

Mikella looked up at her skill list, but saw that there were no added skills to her list. She did notice that she suddenly have Tir's familiar status along with her status screen, which actually included the very skills he mentioned.

"Synchronized Parallel Thought," Tir corrected unhelpfully in Mikella's opinion. "But yes."

"Dude, this is crazy!" Janet shouted, her eyes gleaming at the revelation. "So all you need to do is to pick up skills and transfer them all to Tir! That way, he can get over the skill limit we all have without having to swallow those nasty orb things."

"Uuh, I only have enough slots that's the same as Zeke's Acquired Skill list," Tir corrected again. "I can't keep learning new skills over and over. I'll fill up super quick."

"Ooh," Janet's expression deflated like a balloon, her enthusiasm dropping a fair bit. "Man, that's so unfair."

"Hey, you do realize sharing skills without having to train them and fill up your own list is something nobody else in this world can do so easily, right?"

Ceru mentioned, already sitting down on one of the large plush chairs they brought in for the housing. Her leg was over the other, resting with her hands behind her head as she spoke directly to Janet, her foot dangling in the air up and down.

"Even Masters don't have such easy access to sharing skills. One thing I can think of is that one creepy Master who had a sub-race of a Lich, and using a phylactery to put his skills in while keeping his soul in check. There's another one I remembered who had this hive-mind kind of ability, where everyone who joined this weird cult can share and link up skills with the Master in charge of it. Do you know the one thing that connects all of them together?"

"They sound absolutely horrible?" Janet mentioned, getting Ceru to point at her in recognition.

"Exactly. You gotta go above and beyond to get even a fraction of what Tir can do, and that includes all the downsides that comes with it. Tir's only downside is that he's limited in some cases, but if you ask me, that's better than literally nothing."

"Well, when you put it like that…" Janet said, scratching her cheek. "So this isn't the first time something like this happened?"

"Oh, certainly. It's just normally super expensive to do, that or it requires so many rare kinds of resources that you would take years to collect them all, let alone actually make something out of them. But that's besides the point. What else can you do?"

She turned her direction to Zeke, who answered with a nod and, putting his hand out with the palm facing upwards, conjured motes of mana into existence.

Each mote felt surreal to look at, but more importantly, her Mana Manipulation sensed the deep well of power hidden beneath each mote as they all converged together, and eventually became something that resembled a diamond-shaped spike.

Zeke moved it left, then right, then back to its original position, keeping the spike aloft in the air before dispersing it back into motes of mana which disappeared into the folds of reality.

"Mana Weave lets me pretty much control mana and actually use it like a weapon," Zeke explained. "Basically it's like Ethereal Manifest, but not as easily controlled. I got a lot of free-form, though."

"In other words, it'll make your barrier even more annoying to deal with," Mikella mentioned, a grin rising on her face.

She really wanted to test out Zeke's newly upgraded skills for herself. It's been a while since they had a spar since they kept training the newbies on the ways of combat. But considering that they keep up with their training regiment religiously, she thought it was about time to get started on their own training.

Not to mention that she wanted to practice her magic casting thanks to Tir's Familiar Skills in effect. Now she wouldn't have to worry about casting her attunement's magic while fighting with her weapon. Just when she was about to mention that spar, a knock sounded on the door to the housing.

Everyone here turned to the door, then looked back at themselves.

"Were we expecting anyone?" Zeke asked, Mikella shook her head on her side, then saw Lyle and Janet shrugging. Everybody looked at Ceru for confirmation.

"Don't look at me. Only my parents know I'm here."

"But it doesn't feel like Cronus is here," Janet asked, her eyes narrowing and her hands shifting to the side where her pack was to pull out a weapon.

"The barrier should've worked on them," Zeke muttered, gripping his fist tight. "I'll go see them."

Lyle called out to everyone to be wary just in case, and Mikella pulled out her trusty sword. She didn't want anyone to panic, but she had enough of getting blind-sided by unexpected surprises thanks to the tower's invasion of noble knights.

Zeke, being the one capable of surviving any ambush with his barrier, approached the door and opened it up to see who was knocking.

He paused. Mikella couldn't see who it was, but she was already to go full on–

"...How are you guys here?!"

Zeke shouted in alarm, surprising Mikella. But strangely, it wasn't a shout of anger or despair, but just genuine shock.

When he opened the door further, her eyes widened to see two very familiar faces that honestly shouldn't even be here, especially here in Arcelot.

"That's quite a way to greet us after such a long time, Zeke," Cloud said, greeting him with an easy smile and the striking blue eyes of his.

"Oh, but look at how much you've grown! Did you get stronger again?" Valorie followed after, her energy radiating across the room as they entered.

The lords of Eve Glade arrived and got all the way here to see them.
