Chapter 195: Settling Routine

Over the next few days, Cæ's daily schedule began taking on a more regular routine. Each day, he would go to classes, doing his very best to not just learn and memorize, but also assimilate all of it in class. If he could finish ninety percent of his learning process in class, then the burden that he needed to go through to study for the exams was minimal. He wouldn't need to push himself that very hard when the time came.

His memory, thanks to his Acquired Savant Syndrome, was extremely good. He could memorize details and facts with minimal effort and had extremely good long-term retention, requiring minimal effort when it came to revising them.

This also applied to his mastery of magia.

The rate at which he mastered runes was extremely high, as it had been in his only year in the Apprentice Program. His mind absorbed the runes and the associated templates extremely well, allowing him to greatly internalize all the information that he took in and make it his own.

He began mastering the runes of various fields and subjects, among those that he had chosen at an incredibly high rate, surpassing almost all of his peers, barring those who were exceptionally gifted in said field.

In particular, his rate of mastery of martial magic proved to be rather impressive above all. Combat magic was his greatest forte out of all the fields of magic he had chosen, and martial magic proved to be even more so. Out of all of them, none of them could even come close to having the affinity with him that he had with combat.

He began learning the basics of Borthwein alongside Vloria at the tutelage of Professor Mercile, who quickly trained up the two combat geniuses to his pleasure. Cæ began learning it so smoothly that he couldn't help but regret not choosing it an official course in his first year alone. It would have helped him greatly, considering how little time he had for the number of fields that he wanted to gain a foundation in.

Vloria proved to be a powerful partner that pushed him to his limits. Professor Mercile wasn't exaggerating when he had said that her affinity for martial magic was even greater than that of Cæ's.

She was born to fight.

They came to harbor a mutual respect for each other after their previous conversation, while Vloria began growing a little friendlier, or a little less aggressive, rather, with him. However, the competition that the two of them had was intense, given that both of them coveted the prize that Professor Mercile had promised to the stronger of the two of them by the end of the year.

It proved to be a powerful motivating force for the two of them, accelerating their growth.

Keeping up with her was a struggle for Cæ.

While she was not only especially gifted for martial magic, she also didn't have any other obligation, responsibility, or burden; Cæ had many things to focus on across his day. The research into the healthcare sector, its norms and regulations, its infrastructure design, and the logistics of surgery were all things that he needed to keep an eye out for in order to be able to flesh out his vision.

And he did.

The more he learned, the more precise the image in his head grew, becoming less vague and less blurry each day as he began ironing more and more details the more he learned. It was still not enough to be the full plan in and of itself, and was certainly far away from the final product that would need to be tested.

Still, he was approaching the stage where he could finalize the pitch he would be making to the two people that he intended to bring on board.

He had begun searching the maginet, looking for people who could serve as viable candidates. He had a good profile in mind, the most important of which was that they needed to have the ability to dedicate much of their time to the project.

For that reason, he immediately crossed out people who appeared to have too much going on, so they wouldn't be able to prioritize the company. He also needed people who were actually inclined to believe in the vision of his project with a degree of passion. The kind of passion that Seliphaz and Feidin displayed each day they worked at Trinity Housings.

Cæ barely managed to squeeze enough time out of his busy schedule to visit the office once every two days. He also made sure to stay on top of all the finances, sales, and general happenings of the company, making sure to familiarize himself with everything important.

Simultaneously, his rising foundation in magineering and alchemy at the magicademy allowed him to speak a bit more extensively with Seliphaz as she worked on the design of the second iteration of the Haven model.

It had integrated solutions to much of the feedback that they had gotten from those who bought and made use of the housing unit in the Colohen Slums. They had sold an enormous number of units even after the monsoons had long passed, in winter.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Thanks to the humid wind coming from the Dedmaere Expanse sea south of Elendir, the winters were not as hostile to the people of the slums as the monsoons were. While it was extremely cold, undoubtedly, and there was plenty of rain, it was less than a third of the rainfall that one saw in the monsoons.

One of the requests that they had consistently gotten the most of once the Haven units had blown up with popularity in the slums has been about heat. Seliphaz had tried to avoid too much heat retention in the Haven, keeping in mind that it would undoubtedly be warm.

However, she had underestimated how cold it truly was in the slums during the monsoons. There were no magitechnological heating systems of any kind, and even keeping a fire burning was very difficult with how moist and wet everything became in the monsoons.

It was one of the first things that she had fixed in the Haven design, among a few other things that got rid of many imperfections and flaws in the design. Still, for a first product, it was shockingly extremely well-received with very little dissatisfaction among its customers.

This was where Cæ's contributions in setting the constraints and objectives of the housing unit had come in. His experience in the slums allowed him to understand their needs far better than anybody else outside of the slums.

This was the kind of synergy that he sought in his next commercial venture, as well. It wasn't enough to have a pure profit motive by making sure that the income of his partners was dependent on the revenue of the company. This made him more determined to take his time to find someone who seemed like they would be as invested in the project as Seliphaz was in Trinity Housings.

While Project Heart-Healing was one of his greatest time drains, as he had already decided, it actually was not the most tiring part of his day.

That would certainly be the Student Council meetings that he partook in.

The selection process for the Vertir Duel Competition had been completed, but the Student Council put an equal amount of effort into selecting candidates for the remaining seven competitions as well.

Many of the strongest students who had participated in the combat selection process had chosen to try for their competitions after they had failed to be selected for the former.

Mira Mierta, with her speed magic, easily won the representative for tag. She had already displayed how powerful her speed was in the final battle of the combat competition. Thus, nobody had any doubts about her worthiness for the role.

The remaining four also found their place in the Capture The Flag team that either Virlyd would be leading or Cæ would be a part of. Both Virlyd and Cæ would soon begin their training for the Capture The Flag event as well, leaving Cæ almost zero minutes of free time in his day.

The Elendir Institute of Magic began aggressively preparing its chosen students for their respective competitions in the Magic Contest, putting all of them through aggressive training camps while professors took time out of their day to give each of them individualized training, including Cæ.

Cæ had begun getting instruction from not just Professor Mercile but also from other instructors in the institute that trained him on different aspects of his combat magic, cleaning up the flaws and sub-optimality of his fighting style, and refining it even more.

With each passing day, however, he began growing noticeably stronger.

His rate of growth was, as predicted, very high. Given how fast he gained proficiency in magic in his first year, or less, of magic, many had predicted that he would be able to maintain it for the next year as well.

They had been proven right.

His mana-motive force simply had already grown visibly stronger since the final battle while his eidos mastery also grew, allowing him to secretly use a slightly less minute part of his pure magic in disguise.

His martial magic, in particular, proved to have the biggest impact on his combat magic. It began padding up his short-range weakness, allowing him to deal with threats up close to a much better degree.

What surprised him the most was how different body-casting was from incantations and magic circles.

"Focus."

The stern voice of a woman broke him out of his reverie.

He found himself standing in an isolated chamber.

One with mirrors padded across the entirety of the walls, ceiling, and even the floor, inscribed with runes that reflected light in exactly the right angles to show him all sides of his body.

"Focus on the sensations as the magic is cast on your body."

Her voice instructed him, projected into the chamber from outside.

"Ingrain them in your muscle memory. We will begin now, so let us commence with one hundred repetitions of the first form in Borthwein as planned."

Cæ took a stance as he separated his legs wide, turning to his left side as his left arm was propped up defensively, while his right arm was tucked at the other side, his hand balled into a fist.

"Begin."

WHOOSH!

His body twisted as he threw a straight punch with perfect form, causing a gust of wind to erupt from the sheer force of the movement.

A force that far exceeded the normal human limitations.

"This…" his tone trailed off.

"We cast the Borthwein enhancement magic associated with that punch on you while you moved," the voice of the trainer overseeing the process explained. "We will repeat this process thousands of times until the sensation and the vision of the magic is strongly associated with the body language of your movements. Then you will be able to eventually trigger the eidos of the magic just by performing the movements with a strong enough mental association between the movements and the magic. Continue."

Cæ heaved a deep breath as he returned to the original stance, before once more thrusting his fist forward into the air with great speed and force.

WHOOSH

WHOOSH

WHOOSH

Each time that the magic was cast, it perfectly coincided with the timing of his attack, creating a powerful sensation of enhanced magic that improved his speed and power. With each attack, he began increasingly associating the motions and the magic together, building a powerful connection between the two that would eventually allow him to trigger the magic just by starting the motion alone.

This was the path through which he would master the martial magic eventually.
