Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 1040: Ancestral artifact shattered

The ancestors of the Zhuge Family, it was said, once included a supreme named Zhuge Ming. Regarding whether Zhuge Ming truly embarked on that supreme path, opinions varied wildly, and there was much controversy. However, one fact was universally acknowledged: Zhuge Ming's divination was unparalleled!

Even to this day, no one has been able to surpass Zhuge Ming in the field of divination. The Fengshui Divine Art inherited by Chu Mo is a different path from Zhuge Ming's divination. In terms of deduction alone, perhaps the great being who passed the Fengshui Divine Art to Chu Mo could surpass Zhuge Ming. But Chu Mo... was far from his level.

However, this old ancestor of the Zhuge Family had already disappeared for many years, and most members of the family, including Zhuge Changchun, mostly believed the old ancestor had undergone Dao Conversion and vanished from this vast mundane world.

Zhuge Ming's divination techniques naturally were passed down, but hardly any of the Zhuge Family's descendants possessed much expertise in this area.

Nowadays in the entire Zhuge Family, it was the family head, Zhuge Changchun, who could be considered the strongest in this regard. Yet he too could only proceed through the use of the ancestral artifact left by Zhuge Ming—an ancient tortoise shell.

Not long after, two elders brought forth the ancestral artifact, the ancient and weathered tortoise shell covered with marks of time.

Zhuge Changchun began to bath and change clothes, afterwards going to the ancestral hall, kneeling in front of the ancestral tablets to pray earnestly.

"Junior Zhuge Changchun wishes to use ancestral techniques and the ancestral artifact to deduce an enemy with a big cause and effect on the Zhuge Family. I pray for the ancestral spirits in heaven to bless and protect our clan for ten thousand ages! May it thrive forever!"

After Zhuge Changchun finished praying, he started to operate the ancestral technique—the divination, inside the ancestral hall, and began deducing the timing of Chu Mo's ascension.

As the ancestral technique was deployed, Zhuge Changchun saw a figure brimming with blood energy appear directly from a certain Guiding Land. The features of that Guiding Land were instantly engraved in Zhuge Changchun's spiritual sea by mighty magic power.

Then, he felt that he was especially clear-minded and refreshed after using the ancestral technique of divination this time, as if he still had energy to spare. He immediately thought of taking the opportunity to deduce more about Chu Mo.

Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be in peril.

Even if the Zhuge Family had absolute confidence they could eradicate Chu Mo, they still needed to prepare a foolproof strategy. A lion fights a rabbit with all its might—this is the fundamental way of survival for a great clan.

As Zhuge Changchun continued his deductions, he suddenly found the figure full of blood energy beginning to blur. A tremendous force emerged, preventing Zhuge Changchun from continuing the deduction. At the same moment, the many ancestral tablets placed in the Zhuge Family ancestral hall began to tremble.

With Zhuge Changchun's deductions, the ancestral tablets trembled even more violently.

Finally…

Crack!

An ancestral tablet at the innermost corner, which also happened to be that of the Zhuge Family's ancient ancestor, Zhuge Ming, made a cracking sound as it fell over.

In front of Zhuge Changchun, the ancient and weathered tortoise shell, the ancestral artifact, made a crisp noise, and countless cracks appeared on its surface. With a snap… it shattered into many pieces!

Thud!

Zhuge Changchun spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, swaying on the verge of collapse, his complexion deathly pale, eyes revealing an utterly horrified expression.

In the entire ancestral hall, he was alone, with no one else witnessing this scene.

After a long while, Zhuge Changchun, trembling, reached out to gather the broken pieces of the tortoise shell. As soon as his fingers touched the shell, which was so hard that even Emperor Realm instruments could not leave a mark on it, it crumbled into ash as if it had been weathered away!

Heavenly Dao backlash, ancestral artifact shattered!

Hiss!

Zhuge Changchun's eyes shone with disbelief. Trembling, he directly cast several rays of light, attempting to stabilize the crumbling turtle shell, but all his efforts... were in vain. The turtle shell turned directly into ashes, littering the ground before him.

A sorrowful aura pervaded the ancestral hall of the Zhuge Family.

"How... how is this possible?" Zhuge Changchun tried to stand up, but he felt his internal organs violently churning, while his cultivation seemed to have developed a fissure!

This was a sign of damage to his foundation, an indication that his realm was about to fall!

"What... what have I done? How could this happen?" Zhuge Changchun stared blankly, utterly unable to believe that all of this was real. He had merely wanted to divine something about Chu Mo, but had never expected to suffer such a terrifying backlash.

Zhuge Changchun fixed his gaze on the tablet of Zhuge Ming, which had already fallen on the table before him, and his body trembled slightly. He felt an endless chill emerging from deep within his heart.

Then, he walked over and carefully set Zhuge Ming's tablet upright. He took a deep breath, and in a flash, his blood energy erupted, forcibly suppressing the injury to his cultivation. From the outside, he looked as if he hadn't been harmed at all.

After that, Zhuge Changchun stepped out of the ancestral hall.

The people outside all looked at him with concern. Zhuge Changchun, without saying much, directly transmitted to the others present the location of Chu Mo's ascension, embedded in his divine sense. Then he turned and left without a word.

The two elders who had just called upon the ancestral artifact opened their mouths slightly, wanting to say something, but seeing Zhuge Changchun's weary figure, they all closed their mouths.

Every act of divination could potentially lead to some backlash, so the members of the Zhuge Family had not anticipated that the situation would be so serious.

However, Zhuge Lang looked thoughtful as he watched Zhuge Changchun's retreating figure, then with the ascension location of Chu Mo etched in his mind, he said to the others, "When the time comes, I will personally go and kill him!"

All the elders of the Zhuge Family agreed. In their eyes, for Zhuge Lang, who was at the Emperor Realm, to kill a cultivator who had just ascended was bound to be without any mishaps. If they could not kill him... that would be the biggest mishap of all.

...…

In the midst of cultivation within the secret chamber of Piaomiao Palace in the Immortal Realm, Chu Mo had suddenly felt a whim, with the powers of law within him surging. The Heaven Slaying mirror burst forth with dazzling light, and the Chaos Furnace flew out from it, hovering above Chu Mo's head, releasing ten thousand strands of chaos energy, which protected Chu Mo beneath it.

The Heaven Slaying blade 'clanged' as it flew out, making a series of sonorous sounds, circling around Chu Mo, with earth-shattering killing intent erupting from the blade.

"What's happening?" Chu Mo felt as if someone was eyeing him from the shadows.

But the other party's realm was too profound; each time Chu Mo tried to locate him using Fengshui Divine Art, the sensation vanished without a trace.

Suddenly, the Chaos Furnace flew back into the Heaven Slaying mirror, and the mirror again concealed itself near Chu Mo's chest.

Only the Heaven Slaying blade continued to make a series of clanging sounds, filled with killing intent, as if it was cutting through something.

Chu Mo's eyes narrowed slightly, his heart far from calm, muttering, "Could it be someone is planning to ambush me at the Heavenly Realm's ascension site?"

This possibility seemed very likely, and Chu Mo's thoughts quickly turned to several hostile forces in the Heavenly Realm.

The Shangguan Family, the Luo Family, the Zhuge Family... These clans had all had conflicts with him. Among them, his feud with the Zhuge Family was probably the deepest. Especially since the Dao Exilar he had just refined for Lingdan Hall effectively broke apart the many years of the Zhuge Family's arrangements, ruining their plans in one blow.

Others might not guess the origin of the Dao Exilar, but the Zhuge Family, quite familiar with Lingdan Hall, would surely be able to figure it out.

"It is said that the old ancestor of the Zhuge Family, Zhuge Ming, once entered the path of cultivation through ingenious divination, possessing astonishing abilities in astrology and deduction. So, if his descendants inherited these skills, it would be within reason." Chu Mo's expression became increasingly serious as he muttered, "Could it be... the Zhuge Family?"
