This was a sight hard to describe with words.
The horrific sea monster wrapped the battleship with its tentacles, as if it would tear the entire ship apart in the next second; however, the monster, which had been toying with the ship in its grip, took no further action.
Its huge eyes closely watched the diminutive girl on the deck, its wet, slippery body slightly leaning back while the tentacles that had been climbing everywhere slowly retracted to one side of its body.
That feeling, that state... it was as if it were merely a giant octopus that had encountered its natural predator.
Wait...
Natural predator?
Count Stafford incredulously watched this scene, finding his own thoughts absurd.
As a member of the Falling Star Clan, he had grown up listening to the terrifying legends of the Kraken, the monster whose status in stories could even rival that of a Demon God...
Could such a terrifying creature actually feel fear?
What was it afraid of?
Could it be... it feared Her Majesty the Queen?
Count Stafford couldn't help but look towards the girl confronting the monster, feeling his thoughts becoming more absurd and incredible.
The young queen, whose background and information had been thoroughly investigated by him, seemed to become mysteriously unfathomable in an instant.
And then... Count Stafford witnessed an even more incredible scene.
The young queen gently lifted her head, glancing faintly at the monstrous beast. A golden-red light flashed through her clear, azure eyes, as pure as the sky.
An indescribable, ineffable aura rose from Charlotte.
In a trance, Count Stafford felt that the figure standing on the deck was not a delicate girl, but an unbreakable mountain.
The girl's gaze fell on the monster's wildly thrashing tentacles, and the tentacles retracted as if electrified.
Where her gaze landed, the tentacles shrank back.
A deep moan emerged from within the Kraken, gradually losing its furious momentum. The monster still maintained its standoff with the girl, but the previously devastating pressure it exerted seemed to have unknowingly dissipated by a large extent.
This time... even the dullest soldier noticed something was wrong.
It was scared...
The legendary horrific monster... was actually scared!
Indeed, the monster was frightened.
Unlike common mortals like Count Stafford, as a terrifying entity from ancient times, the deep-sea Kraken had much more acute sensitivity to aura.
Though its intelligence was limited and it had not ascended to godhood, the long millennia had imbued it with fearsome magical power, the force it could unleash rivalling that of a God.
At the same time, its perception of danger was no less than that of a God walking on land.
In its vision, the Falling Star Kingdom's battleship was utterly fragile, and the ants on that ship were completely beneath its notice.
But the girl on the deck was different.
Although she appeared so frail and weak, in the Kraken's "vision," that slim figure harbored a dazzling radiance.
That twisted, strange radiance was filled with crimson starlight and emitted a red moonlight, like a Blood Moon that forever illuminated the world in the dark silence.
Under the glow of that Blood Moon, the fearsome beast trembled all over, a fear originating from its blood, its soul, from the very beginning of ancient times... endlessly surged in its heart.
It was scared.
It truly was scared.
Its lower intelligence was not enough to understand what the being before it was, but its sharp spiritual sense told it... the being before it was both familiar and dangerous!
Charlotte looked calmly at the monster.
She, too, felt the monster's fear.
Confronting this legendary deep-sea beast, she felt as if the Blood Holy Scripture within her was stimulated and shone brightly.
The monster was afraid of her.
No... more accurately, it was afraid of the Blood Holy Scripture within her!
For Charlotte, this revelation was astonishing.
Honest to say, the scene before her also exceeded her expectations.
Of course, she had heard of the fearsome reputation of the Kraken. Upon seeing it, her sensitivity as a Demigod allowed her to keenly sense the creature's power.
The creature's magical power was enormous, its hide tough and toxic, inedible and foul-smelling.
With Charlotte's combat capabilities, even if she did not fear it, engaging it would be costly and unworthy.
Her initial intent had been merely to display her divine authority and to drive away this limited-intelligence monster.
But unexpectedly, before she could even exert her power, the monster was already frightened.
Charlotte had a feeling.
At this moment, the monster before her had completely lost its desire to fight.
Moreover, under her "gaze," the monster seemed somewhat hesitant to make any sudden moves, as if trapped.
The deep-sea Kraken... seemed to have been intimidated.
Charlotte thoughtfully looked at the tentacles that kept retracting.
She still had no intention of engaging.
The Blood Holy Scripture seemed to be restraining the creature before her, yet... the Scripture was still incomplete, and Charlotte felt it was prudent to be cautious.
Another reason was that the current monster was simply too "dirty;" swallowing its foul magic power felt nauseating, and after all, it was a Favored of the Sea King Oceanus.
Oceanus was a Main God, on par with the Moon God Artemis, the Blood True Ancestor, and the Creator God, ruling the seas of the Mireya world. Charlotte didn't want to rashly offend someone and so make an enemy.
She calmly looked at the monster, then after a slight pondering, she tentatively ordered,
"Within three breaths, return those sailors and soldiers who fell into the sea, and then... get out of my sight."
Upon these words, Count Stafford and the crew were all stunned.
However, they did not stay stunned for long.
The next scene rendered their expressions completely sluggish.
Under the command of the young queen, the terrifying sea monster slowly retracted its tentacles from the climbing warships.
The hideous tentacles withdrew back into the sea, roaming within it, and then... before the open-mouthed gaze of the crowd, it sent back those crew members who had fallen into the sea or had been swept into it, terrified out of their wits.
Not only that, the monstrous octopus head even opened its mouth and, with a puff, spat out a few sailors it had swallowed.
These sailors didn't know whether to consider themselves lucky or unlucky, as they were still breathing, yet their bodies were covered with foul-smelling corrosive slime, with some parts even showing bone.
Charlotte's gaze sharpened, and she gave Nisi, who had leisurely run up to the deck to watch the excitement, a look.
Understanding her gaze, Nisi quickly scurried over and summoned several crew members. After a shine of healing magic, he said,
"Don't worry, Lord Charlotte, they're okay. They can be saved, they won't die."
Hearing Nisi's words, Charlotte looked again towards the beast.
"Go away."
She said.
Hearing her command, the hideous sea monster swiftly pulled back its tentacles and then slowly sank into the sea.
That speed... as if it were afraid Charlotte would change her mind and regret her decision.
The terrifying aura quickly receded and soon vanished.
The turbulent sea gradually returned to calm, and the shaky warship also regained its balance.
On the deck, the startled sailors and soldiers finally came back to their senses, all feeling as if they had been through a surreal experience, relieved to have survived the ordeal.
By then, they truly felt how surreal everything they had just experienced was.
Sea monster Kraken...
A sailor's nightmare, a nightmare wandering the sea, a phantom destroying everything it saw.
However... this legendary see-it-and-you-die creature, they had actually survived.
And that scene that had just occurred...
Remembering the monster's withdrawal and the queen's command, the crew couldn't help but turn their gaze once again to the slender figure still standing on the deck.
Their gaze shifted from respect to awe.
They did not know how this yet-to-be-crowned provisional queen had managed it.
But that didn't stop them from speculating.
"No... not unworthy of being the Holy Royal Court's Saintess, Her Majesty the Queen...to even command the sea monster Kraken!"
"Long live the Falling Star Kingdom! Long live Her Majesty the Queen!"
The relieved crew erupted in cheers.
Charlotte turned her gaze away from the direction where the monster had disappeared, gracefully acknowledged the crowd, and then returned to her cabin.
As she walked past Count Stafford, who was still stupefied, she paused and said,
"Go and check why the Kraken attacked our ships."
Hearing Charlotte's words, Count Stafford was momentarily startled, and then his face turned sour.
He respectfully complied, then quickly called a few soldiers and hurried downstairs.
Charlotte returned to her cabin to wait for Count Stafford's reply.
And before long, he came again to seek an audience.
"Your Majesty, it's the ship's hull! Our hull, someone smeared it with Deep Sea Demon Squid's Demon Marrow! Someone wants us to be buried at sea, becoming food for the Kraken!"
Count Stafford said through gritted teeth.
"Deep Sea Demon Squid's Demon Marrow?"
Charlotte looked puzzled.
"It's an offspring of the sea monster Kraken! The Deep Sea Demon Squid is its descendant. In the Star Moon Sea, hunting Deep Sea Demon Squid is a taboo, easily provoking the Kraken's wrath!"
Count Stafford said gravely.
Charlotte somewhat understood:
"So that's how it is."
Seeing her unsurprised demeanor, Count Stafford couldn't help but ask,
"Your Majesty, you… don't seem surprised?"
Charlotte glanced at him and didn't hide the truth:
"Count, ever since we set sail, someone has had their eyes on us."
"I was actually quite curious about when they would make their move, and it turns out... they intended to use a sea monster."
After saying this, she looked back at Count Stafford:
"Oh, by the way, the people who were watching us are not from the Bloodline, at least those overseeing us aren't. Count, do you know who they might be?"
Hearing Charlotte's words, Count Stafford's face became even grimmer.
"It's probably the Lilac Family, but behind them… it might not just be the Lilac Family."
"Your Majesty, unbeknownst to you, after King Edward announced their crimes, they have essentially allied themselves with the Bloodline!"
He said through gritted teeth.
"The Lilac Family, huh…"
Charlotte mused.
She clicked her tongue:
"It seems... there are also people in the Nais Clan who don't want me to reach Falling Star."
