As for her parents, they utterly neglected their due responsibilities.
Some people can't even manage their own lives, living in a mess, completely unfit to be parents.
Luke pressed down his disdain, "How many times have you met the observer?"
"Four times."
"Where did each meeting take place?"
"Mr. Toure would drive me there each time; I usually fell asleep in the car, and by the time I woke up, I was inside a house. The house was small, and I don't know exactly where it was."
"Have you seen any girls your age?"
"No."
"Have you ever seen female testers?"
"No."
"Can you describe the appearance of the male tester in the video?"
"I can't. He was always wearing a mask."
"What about the observer?"
"I can."
"Describe his physical characteristics."
Luke fetched some paper and a pen, preparing to sketch a portrait of the observer.
...
The next morning at ten o'clock.
Luke held a case summary meeting in the Robbery and Murder Department.
Luke put up photos and sketches of three suspects on the whiteboard.
"Based on Tayana Haney's description, we now know of three suspects: Franco Toure, the masked man in the video, and the photographer.
We have already confirmed Franco Toure's identity, he may be driving an RV and is on the run; I have applied for a warrant.
The man in the video with a mask is likely named Pex.
The identity of the photographer is still unclear, but I have created a criminal sketch of him.
That is the information on the three suspects."
Jenny said, "Although Tayana Haney has been returned home, her parents are too unreliable. Shouldn't we take some precautions?"
"What do you have in mind?"
"I want to contact the child welfare agency to assess the couple's guardianship qualifications."
Xiao Hei said, "Good idea, I fully support it."
The deputy captain hummed, "Is an assessment even necessary? These people are simply unfit to be parents, yet they dare to have two daughters."
Jackson said, "But from what I've observed, Tayana Haney's attachment to her parents is deep. Franco Toure used her concern for her parents to blackmail her, making her afraid to tell others about the abuse.
If we take her away from her parents, it could cause secondary harm."
"Let's do as Jenny suggested, and leave the rest to be decided later.
Our focus now is on rescuing the two abducted girls." Luke set the tone and after a brief pause, started assigning tasks,
"Raymond, Jenny, contact the parents of the first victim, Liv Browning, and have them identify these three suspects.
If they recognize any of the suspects, the case may make further progress."
"Yes, sir."
...
"Knock knock..."
Half an hour later, there was a knock on Luke's office door.
"Come in."
Matthew walked into the office, "Captain, the tech team has identified the third girl through facial recognition; I've pulled up her information from the database."
Matthew placed a document in front of Luke.
Name, Meili Gandhi
Age, 13 years old
Skin color, Brown
Race, American of Indian descent
Residence, 209 Momir Community, Los Angeles.
Date of disappearance, September 14th.
Person reporting, Arab Gandhi (relationship, father-daughter)
"Well done." Luke reviewed the information, glanced at Matthew, and noticed his eyes were bloodshot and he didn't look well.
"Work is important, but so is rest."
Matthew sighed, "I can't sleep well until we catch those bastards."
Luke said, "Bad guys never run out."
"You're right," Matthew nodded and smiled. "To catch these psychopaths, I've had to use some tricks."
Luke asked curiously, "What kind of tricks?"
"I can't reveal them now, just wait for the show."
"OK, I'll be watching," Luke said as he walked out of the office with Matthew and announced to everyone, "Guys, we've got a new lead."
Half an hour later, a frantic Indian couple rushed into the Robbery and Murder Department.
"Which one of you is Captain Luke Lee? I am Arab Gandhi, father of Meili Gandhi. Do you have any news about my daughter?"
Luke stood up and said, "Hello Mr. Gandhi, I am Luke Lee."
The Indian woman, tears in her eyes, asked, "Captain Lee, have you found my daughter?"
"Mr. and Mrs. Gandhi, please sit down, and I'll explain everything slowly," Luke ushered them to sit, explaining, "We've found some clues about Meili Gandhi, but we haven't located her yet."
"What clues?"
"While investigating another case, we found some videos on a suspect's computer that showed your daughter.
We now have some leads and wanted you here to discuss what happened when Meili Gandhi went missing."
Mrs. Gandhi asked, "Can I see the video? I want to know how she is right now."
"The content of the video is quite upsetting; I don't recommend you watch it."
Arab Gandhi pleaded, "Captain Lee, please let us see it. We want to know her condition."
Luke gently refused, "These videos are also linked to other cases and, as evidence, they cannot just be shown freely. I'm sorry."
Mrs. Gandhi asked, "Then, can you find my daughter?"
"We will do our best to find her, but we need your cooperation."
"What do we need to do?"
"Can you describe the circumstances of your daughter's disappearance?"
The couple showed a pained expression, sinking into their memories.
Moments later, Mrs. Gandhi slowly said, "My daughter went missing on September 14th. That day, after school, she went to her dance class. Since the class wasn't far from the school and she had classmates with her, I didn't accompany her.
Usually, my husband would pick her up at 7 PM after his work, right by the training class, but that day he had to work overtime and was half an hour late... By the time he arrived, our daughter was nowhere to be found."
Mrs. Gandhi continued with a sobbing voice, "We asked her teachers and classmates; they said she left after class and then nobody saw her.
I searched all over the area and couldn't find her.
We also called the police, but they couldn't find where she was either."
Luke asked, "Have you received any ransom calls?"
Arab Gandhi replied, "No.
We initially thought she was kidnapped, but since no one has called for ransom, it's like she has vanished into thin air, with no further news."
"Have you angered anyone?"
"No, we've always been kind to everyone."
"Then, do you think Meili Gandhi ran away from home, or was she kidnapped?"
Mrs. Gandhi spoke firmly, "My daughter would never run away from home; she definitely was kidnapped.
My poor daughter, I can't imagine what she must have endured during this time.
Captain Lee, please, you must bring my daughter back."
Luke said, "Mr. and Mrs. Gandhi, we've identified three suspects and would like your help in identifying them."
"Okay."
Luke showed them a photo of Franco Toure, "Do you recognize him?"
After a careful look, Arab Gandhi answered, "I don't recognize him."
Luke then showed them a sketch of the photographer, "Do you recognize this person?"
"Do you have a photo?"
"No."
After another careful look at the sketch, Arab Gandhi shook his head, "No impression."
Finally, Luke showed them a screenshot from the video featuring a man, "Do you recognize this man?"
"He is wearing a mask, I can't make him out," Arab Gandhi furrowed his brows and demanded, "Why is he not wearing clothes? What is he doing?"
Luke replied evasively, "We only have the video of him wearing a mask. Additionally, it's possible his name is Pex. Does that sound familiar to you?"
"Pex?" Arab Gandhi repeated.
"Yes."
Arab Gandhi showed an angry face, "So it's that bastard! I trusted him so much, and he kidnapped my daughter!"
"You know him?"
"He is my colleague, specifically my subordinate.
I always thought highly of him; I can't believe he would do this."
"Where is he now?"
