Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 289: Clash

The next morning.

In the Robbery and Murder Department, Squad One office.

Raymond knocked on the door and entered Luke's office, "Captain, you wanted to see me."

"Yes, I have a task for you and Jenny," Luke gestured for Raymond to sit opposite him.

"What task?"

Luke placed a photo of Henry Rogers on the desk, "This guy is a major suspect, but we don't have enough evidence to arrest him yet.

He could re-offend at any time, and we need you to watch him."

Raymond picked up the photo and looked at it, "I understand."

"Listen, although we haven't had a face-to-face encounter with him, the previous three cases show that this person is very cautious, with a strong counter-surveillance consciousness. Be careful when following him.

You can lose him, but you must not be discovered.

If he becomes suspicious, immediately abandon the surveillance."

"Understood, we won't get too close to him."

Raymond wasn't talkative, but he was reliable, which is why Luke entrusted the surveillance task to him.

After giving a few more instructions, Luke walked out of the office with Raymond and said to the others, "Guys, are you ready?"

"Of course."

"Yes, Captain."

"OK, let's move out."

...

402 Coral Community.

Rona Post's home.

Luke took the clue provided by Henry Rogers' wife, Marta, very seriously.

He got Rona Post's details from Marta and tried to contact her, but the mobile phone was unreachable.

So, Luke personally led the team to Rona Post's home to check on her.

The community environment was average, and the grass in the yard hadn't been maintained for some time.

Luke asked the others to wait in the car, and only he and Jackson got out.

While Luke kept watch, Jackson walked to the door and knocked, "Knock, knock."

No response.

He knocked again.

Still no response.

Luke spoke righteously, "Rona Post's mobile phone is unreachable, and nobody answers the door. I suspect she may be in danger. Out of concern for her personal safety, I'm prepared to take emergency action.

Marcus, open the door."

"Okay, Captain."

Marcus took out the lock-picking tools and began to work on the lock.

Luke reminded over the radio, "We're about to make a forced entry into the house, vice-captain, Jackson, be on alert."

"Roger that."

The lock wasn't complicated, and after about a minute, Jackson managed the 'click', and the door opened.

The two entered the house cautiously, guns at the ready.

"Living room clear."

"Bathroom clear."

"Bedroom clear."

The house wasn't large, with only two bedrooms; the two quickly searched the house without finding any suspicious individuals.

Luke took out the radio, "House is clear."

"Roger that."

The vice-captain stepped out of the police car, looked around, and said, "Jackson, get the kit from the trunk."

The two entered the house with the toolbox.

Although Luke and the vice-captain did not communicate, both subconsciously assumed that the homeowner Rona Post was unlikely to have met with good fortune.

With their past experience, they focused the search on the bathroom.

Jackson opened the toolbox, took out the testing spray bottle, and sprayed it around the bathroom. He closed the bathroom door, covered the window, and the restroom dimmed, revealing blue fluorescence on the floor and walls.

The vice-captain nodded as if to say it was just as expected, "Looks like Rona Post's head has been sawn off, Captain. You can notify the technical team and the forensic doctor now.

I'll call the patrolling officers nearby for reinforcement, and secure the scene."

Luke hesitated for a moment, "Wait, don't notify the patrol officers and no need to secure the scene.

I don't want this scene to attract too much attention, and the investigation should be conducted low-key."

The vice-captain caught on, "You're worried about alarming Henry Rogers?"

"Exactly. If I'm not mistaken, he now probably thinks that the police consider Helson Swiney the culprit and are ready to close the case.

This will make him let his guard down and more likely to slip up.

Once he knows that the police have discovered the scene at Rona Post's home, he will also suspect that the police are doubting him, which is not favorable to the subsequent investigation."

The vice-captain asked, "How do you know he will mistake the police for closing the case?"

Jackson sneered, "Vice-captain, don't you watch the news? There was similar reporting last night."

The vice-captain laughed, "Luke, did you have someone plant the fake news?"

"Those reporters aren't fools, they won't report fake news, only the 'real news' they've investigated.

Never mind, let them be happy." Luke told the vice-captain and Jackson,

"Notify the neighbors, no matter what they see or hear, they shouldn't talk recklessly."

Jackson made a face, "That's not a good idea, the more you tell them not to talk, the more they will want to talk.

I know these guys too well."

"Then tell them, there's a dead person in the house. If the news spreads and becomes common knowledge, not only will this house become notorious and unsellable, but the surrounding houses will also be affected; nobody wants to live next to a house of horror." Luke believed that as long as it was tied to their personal interests, people would naturally keep quiet.

Under Luke's direction, all the examination actions were carried out discretely.

Bloodstains that had been cleaned were also found in the living room...

Jackson dug out a red blanket in the yard, inside was a headless female corpse...

The crime scene largely matched what Luke had surmised.
