Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 142 Not Usually Like This

Josie's mother wiped the tears from her face, "Detective Chief, did he kill my daughter?"

"Based solely on the information, we cannot judge; we need to investigate further. Could you tell me more about Josie? The more the police know about her, the easier it is to find clues to the murderer."

"Let me do it," Josie's father said, patting his wife's shoulder and pondering briefly before continuing,

"My daughter was excellent, wonderful. She had always been like that, we didn't specifically groom her, she was naturally talented.

You should know how hard it is to become a cheerleading captain, and for Josie, it was even harder. Most cheerleading captains are blonde-haired, blue-eyed Caucasians, and Josie was black. She had to work very hard to get to that position.

We saw everything and always supported her.

She made it.

But I never expected the accident to happen so suddenly... I had never imagined it," Josie's father's voice choked.

Luke asked in turn, "Josie was so outstanding, she must have had many admirers. Did she have a boyfriend?"

Josie's mother answered, "I know more about this, Josie would tell me everything regarding her relationships.

Josie had a boyfriend named Pete; I met him once. He was very handsome.

But Josie was too outstanding, and many pursued her. That boy lacked confidence and often argued over Josie's suitors, so they broke up."

"Was he a student at this school?"

"It seems not."

"Do you know his full name?"

"Josie mentioned it, but... I can't remember."

"This information is very important. I hope you can try to recall it again."

Josie's mother pressed her forehead and then pulled at her hair forcefully, thinking hard for a while, "Sorry, I really can't remember, my damned memory, why is it like this,

Am I going to affect the investigation... Oh my gosh, I'm so useless."

Josie's father hugged his wife, kissing her forehead to comfort her, "Darling, don't talk about yourself like that, you're just too heartbroken." Then, he looked at Luke and said, "Detective Chief, could you give us some more time? When we get back, I will help her recall."

"Of course," Luke nodded and asked, "By the way, were there any other reasons for their breakup, such as a third party or something?"

Josie's mother shook her head, "Not to my knowledge."

Luke then took out several pictures of other victims, "I need your help identifying whether you recognize anyone in these photos."

Josie's parents scrutinized the photos.

After viewing the photos, Josie's mother pointed at the first gunshot female victim, "I recognize her, Barbara. She was Josie's friend. They often hung out together. Did she die too?"

"She's critically injured and still in the ICU."

"Oh my gosh, this is terrible! They are so young, why would they experience such a thing?" Josie's mother cried again, and her husband comforted her.

Luke handed them a pack of tissues. Barbara was the first gunshot victim, and Josie was the second. Since the two were friends, there was likely some connection.

The gunman's motive was unclear; the main reason being there were too many victims and more than one gunman. The clues were plentiful and chaotic. If they could sift through and connect all the clues, perhaps they could determine the reason behind the shootings.

Like the victims Josie and Barbara,

The two were friends, one shot in the third-floor corridor, the other in the third-floor restroom. It was clear the shooter knew of their relationship.

As for why he wanted to kill them, it was still unclear.

Luke took out a photo of Bowen Pilton, "Do you recognize him?"

"Don't know him. Was he shot?"

"I can't disclose that," Luke asked a few more questions about Josie, then left the break room.

...

It was just after one in the afternoon.

Bobo Mexican Restaurant.

This restaurant was small, about twenty square meters, featuring tables for two. The only dish served was a giant burrito.

The cook, a short, stout Mexican woman,

worked on a large griddle, laying out oval-shaped tortillas, topping them with plenty of cheese, ground pork, chicken, diced onions, and more, then rolling them up to grill.

Luke stood by watching for a while, "You drove all this way just to treat me to this?"

"It's really delicious, I come here once a month, it's amazing, trust me," said His friend earnestly.

At first, Luke somewhat believed him, but when he saw his friend order two giant burritos and spend only seven dollars,

Are you sure it's not because it's cheap?

The two sat at a small square table, his friend still describing the deliciousness of the giant burrito, "You know? I brought Julian here last time, she loved it, ate with it all over her face, like a little painted cat, it was hilarious."

Luke couldn't be bothered with him. Anyone unfamiliar with the situation might think he was showing off a love story.

But compared to fried chicken and burgers, Luke indeed preferred Mexican food.

How could a tortilla wrapped with meat not be delicious?

Soon, the giant burrito arrived. It was indeed massive, fifty centimeters long and as wide as a palm, filled generously. The cook helped by cutting it down the middle.

It looked appetizing, and Luke, who was already hungry, swallowed saliva and took a big bite. It was indeed very tasty and satisfying.

"Is it not delicious?" His friend said, his words muffled.
