Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 133: Bizarre (Extra 13/21)

Malik Dental Clinic.

In a black Dodge car.

Black Paul sat in the driver's seat, leaning back, "I still prefer our big Ford."

Luke reclined in his seat and said, "Peter has seen us in that car before, it's easy for him to get suspicious."

Black Paul glanced towards the dental clinic, "Are you planning to just keep watching like this?"

"Do you have a better idea?"

"Why don't we just apply for a search warrant?"

"On what grounds? Just because he removed his dashcam? It's his right and not illegal. The judge definitely won't sign a search warrant."

"Ring ring ring..."

A burst of cell phone ringing sounded.

"Hello."

Matthew's voice came through the phone, "Guys, I've dug up some info on Peter, is now a good time to talk?"

"Go ahead," Luke activated the speakerphone.

Matthew continued, "Peter hasn't had any car insurance claims recently. However, I found out he withdrew three thousand US dollars in cash this morning."

Black Paul said, "This guy's rich, isn't it pretty normal for him to withdraw three thousand dollars? I occasionally withdraw that amount too."

Matthew said, "I've checked Peter's bank account, and he mostly uses credit cards and electronic payments, rarely cash."

Luke said, "A person who isn't accustomed to using cash suddenly withdrawing it likely doesn't want the purpose of the money traced. It shows that Peter probably has plans.

This is good news, Matthew. Any other leads?"

"How should I put it? I'm not sure if this counts as a clue, but in investigating Peter's financial status, I found out he transfers at least twenty thousand US dollars to Courtney every month."

Marcus grinned widely, "Wow, that girl is going to bleed him dry. Why do so many people enjoy playing the Green Arrow?"

"Matthew, the information you found is very useful, thanks." Luke hung up the phone.

Marcus said, "You know what? I sometimes envy Matthew, no fieldwork, no worry about getting shot, just sitting there and getting the job done."

"When you envy someone, others are envying you. Sitting all day isn't all that great. If it were you, you probably couldn't last two days."

"Maybe," said Black Paul, spreading his hands, "What do you think Peter withdrew the money for? What can three thousand dollars do?"

"I don't know, after all, I'm not the Green Arrow; it's hard to figure out what they are thinking."

For the next while, the two men kept watch over the dental clinic. Since Matthew mentioned that the other party had withdrawn cash today, it indicated that there might be some activity after work.

Luke hadn't done long stakeouts in a long time, and how should he put it?

It was indeed boring.

"Ring ring ring..."

A bout of cellphone ringing sounded.

Luke saw it was his little chubby brother's mobile number; he must have finished school.

"Hello..."

"Hey dear bro, are you busy right now?" came the caring voice of his little chubby brother from the phone.

"Not too bad, what's up? Just speak directly."

"Have you been very busy lately? You haven't come home in a while, and mom talks about you all the time."

"I've been somewhat busy, you know how it is, all work-related stuff."

"I just wanted to remind you not to overdo it and not to put too much pressure on yourself."

"Where are you?" Luke felt something was off. His little chubby brother rarely called him, and even if he did, he wouldn't talk this way.

Could it be, he's in danger?

"I'm at the milk tea shop in the community plaza, hanging out with the charming Maggie, the happiest moment of my day. I'm definitely the luckiest guy in LA."

"Anything else?" Luke thought he was worried for nothing as his little brother was just flaunting his love life.

"Ah… I almost forgot the real business. I wanted to ask you about something."

"Go on."

"I've been thinking about buying a bike recently, but I don't know much and wanted to ask you which brand is good. You've bought two bikes, so you should be able to give me some sound advice."

"Didn't Dad get you a bike for Christmas a couple of years ago?"

"Right, but now I want to buy a mountain bike, with wider tires, better stability, and shock absorption, you know, every boy hopes to have a super cool mountain bike just like your Harley."

"Got it, I'll do some research when I have time and let you know."

"OK then, I won't disturb your work. Remember to visit home when you've got some time, both me and mom miss you."

Luke hung up the phone, muttering, "Annoying little chubby."

Black Paul showed an envious look, "You guys have a really good brotherly bond."

"You were eavesdropping again."

"I wasn't eavesdropping, just have good ears. I can tell your brother respects you a lot, even calls specifically to ask for your opinion.

I envy that kind of brotherly relationship."

Luke smiled, "He's just about to have a birthday."

Black Paul "..."

Luke was now quite wealthy and didn't mind buying a nice birthday gift for his little brother.

Drizzling...

...

An hour later.

The dental clinic closed for the day.

Luke lay back in the chair, "Follow him, be careful not to let him notice."

"Don't worry, they call me Black Paul, no one knows cars better than me."

Luke shook his head, the guy full of hot air.

The two men followed for a while and noticed that Peter was not heading home.

Luke called David to bring people over for support.

Peter parked his car in front of a detective agency, looked around, and then entered the detective agency.
