What is an immortal?

Chapter 545: White Desert Island

"You youngsters truly are naive, to believe that the Three Immortals Island is a safe haven devoid of danger for Immortals? Do you think the spirit herbs and spiritual objects on the island are there for the taking? There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world! Every time the Three Immortals Island opens, it is the Old Tree Demon behind it all, orchestrating to lure cultivators like you to the island. You think it's a rare opportunity from the heavens, but in reality, you're just new puppets for the Old Tree Demon." The Golden Divine Bow vibrated with golden light as it slowly responded.

Upon hearing this, Yuan Ming immediately recalled the words Qi Ye had previously mentioned, his expression becoming somewhat unnatural as he spoke,

"How can this be? Why would the Undead Tree Demon do this?"

"Naturally, it is for power. You are also a cultivator and should understand that pursuing power is an instinct for all cultivators, the Old Tree Demon is no exception. With each puppet it adds, its power grows stronger. Sooner or later, it will break the seal left by the Penglai Immortal and escape this prison," the Golden Divine Bow's voice contained a trace of desolation.

Yuan Ming was slightly stunned; for them, the outsiders, the Three Immortals Island was a treasure land, but for the Golden Divine Bow, it felt like a prison.

"Senior, please tell me how to leave the Three Immortals Island, and give me a way out," Yuan Ming took a deep breath, clasped his fists, and spoke respectfully.

"There is no way out. From the moment you stepped onto the Three Immortals Island, you were no different from the dead," the Golden Divine Bow's voice was calm, devoid of any emotional fluctuations, apparently having grown accustomed to this fact.

Upon hearing this, Yuan Ming's expression grew even uglier.

"The exit of the Three Immortals Island is on Penglai Island, which is precisely the lair of the Old Tree Demon. The only way you think you can leave is by killing the Old Tree Demon, but likewise, that method is hardly a method at all," the Golden Divine Bow sighed and said.

"What is the Old Tree Demon's cultivation?" Yuan Ming, still unwilling to give up, asked.

"The Old Tree Demon is a being whose strength is comparable to that of a Returning Void existence. Its life force is incredibly vigorous. Not only would it be difficult for a cultivator like you, but even if several Returning to Void Cultivators came together, they would still find it difficult to kill him," the Golden Divine Bow unabashedly said.

At the mention of "Returning Void," Yuan Ming's heart also sank.

If it were only a Nascent Soul-level existence, Yuan Ming would risk it all to attempt to take it down, at the very least he would be able to protect himself.

But the gap between Core Formation and Returning Void was too wide; it wasn't a gap that could be bridged by magical treasures or numbers, especially since the Jin Hua's Nascent Soul cultivators had been captured, leaving him unable to find more assistance.

"Kid, not to hide it from you, I am the Lifebound Magical Treasure left by the Golden Sunflower Immortal, called Hou Yi's Sun Shooting Bow. In this Fire Essence Palace, my influence still remains; the Old Tree Demon rarely dares to come here to cause trouble. If you do not wish to die, you can stay here with me, and I can still ensure your safety," the Golden Divine Bow circled around Yuan Ming and said.

"Thank you for your kindness, Senior, but I still have other urgent matters and must leave soon," Yuan Ming pretended to deliberate for a moment, then said with difficulty as he shook his head.

He didn't fully believe the words of the Golden Divine Bow before him, and still had to find Xi Ying, so staying here wasn't an option.

Seeing his response, the Golden Divine Bow did not insist, saying,

"Everyone has their own aspirations. If you seek death, I will not stop you. However, according to the rules left by the Golden Sunflower Immortal, as long as someone reaches the Fire Essence Palace, I must grant a reward. Tell me, what do you want?"

Upon hearing this, Yuan Ming pondered for a moment before responding,

"May I ask if there is a place on this island where in the sky hangs a black and a white sun?"

"What you are referring to is Lank Island," the Golden Divine Bow said without hesitation.

"Then, the reward I seek would be a way to reach Lank Island," Yuan Ming responded with a smile upon hearing this.

"Any reward you could ask for, and you only want this?" The tone of the Golden Divine Bow conveyed a mix of disbelief and astonishment.

Upon hearing this, Yuan Ming firmly nodded his head.

Compared to other things, he was more eager to find Xi Ying soon. He had many doubts he wanted her to clear up.

"You haven't had even a slight thought of wanting to make me your own?" the Golden Divine Bow asked.

"Has anyone ever had such a thought?" Yuan Ming asked.

"It might be said, few people have not entertained that notion," the Golden Divine Bow seemed to chuckle slightly as it responded.

"And the result?" Yuan Ming asked.

"The result is that I'm still here, and they failed the test, turning into ashes," the Golden Divine Bow stated.

Upon hearing this, Yuan Ming's Adam's apple moved up and down as he swallowed hard.

"Senior, if there is a way to go to Lank Island, could you please enlighten me?" Yuan Ming asked again.

The Golden Divine Bow did not say anything further, but its body vibrated with ripples of golden light.

Not far from the square, suddenly a golden light shone from the ground, revealing a golden formation.

"A Teleportation Array?" Yuan Ming's eyes lit up, his heart filled with great joy.

"By passing through this Teleportation Array, you can reach Lank Island," the Golden Divine Bow declared.

"Thank you," Yuan Ming immediately bowed with his fists and walked toward that direction.

"Forget it, merely pointing the way would be contrary to the rules left by the Golden Sunflower Immortal. Let me give you one more Hidden Bow Talisman. Do you have talisman paper?" the Divine Bow asked.

Yuan Ming nodded, swiftly taking out a piece of the highest quality talisman paper and spreading it flat on his palm.

The Golden Bow swayed slightly, and a stream of golden light flowed from it onto the talisman paper, condensing into a miniature image of the Golden Bow.

"This Hidden Bow Talisman contains a portion of my power and can be used three times. If combined with the Golden Crow Divine Arrows, the power is beyond your imagination," the Golden Bow said, seemingly implying something as it "gazed" at Yuan Ming intently for a moment.

Looking at the Golden Bow staring straight at him, Yuan Ming felt somewhat guilty.

He thought the bow probably already knew he had secretly kept two Golden Crow Divine Arrows, and just as he was about to confess, he heard the Golden Bow speak again, "I have given you the reward, leave now if you're going to."

Hearing its urging, Yuan Ming then realized that the Golden Bow did not intend to blame him.

"Thank you," Yuan Ming bowed again and turned to walk toward the golden formation.

Once he stepped onto the golden formation, the sensation of the world spinning overwhelmed him immediately. When he came to his senses, he found himself already standing on a white island.

After steadying himself, Yuan Ming looked up at the sky, only to be surprised to find the sky still a vast expanse of white, with absolutely nothing, not even a sun, let alone the previously mentioned black and white suns.

He immediately looked around. Everything he saw, whether it be tree leaves or soil, was pure white, with only faint gray lines outlining the contours; otherwise, all things were the same color, and he could truly not distinguish whether what was before him was a white stone wall or a large tree with white leaves.

Yuan Ming felt as if he was in a painting of mountains and waters, only the colors were dull. But what was even more disturbing was the total silence of the island, which was unnerving.

He plucked a leaf from a tree, and with a pinch, crushed it between his fingers, the friction making a soft grinding sound as white sap oozed out, staining his fingers white.

The texture of the leaf was no different from normal, and it seemed the island had no soundproofing Array. Aside from the color, there appeared to be no other difference between here and the outside world.

However, Yuan Ming always felt an eerie sense enveloping him, as if some indescribable force covered him, yet he found nothing unusual upon scanning with his Divine Sense.

Putting aside the unsettling feeling, the scenery here greatly contrasted with the black and white world where Xi Ying was, making Yuan Ming somewhat doubtful.

Is this really Lank Island?

Logically speaking, since the Golden Bow, as the Spiritual Treasure Artifact Spirit left by the Golden Sunflower Immortal, promised to bring him here, it should not deceive him, right?

He shook his head, deciding not to dwell on this matter for now, as he currently could not go and confirm anything with anyone else.

Yuan Ming took a deep breath, activated his Soul Power, and tried to sense Xi Ying's location through the Golden Crow Soul within his Sea of Consciousness, but after much effort, he achieved nothing.

Having no other choice, Yuan Ming set out on his own to find some clues.

As Yuan Ming ventured deeper into the island, his doubts grew.

The island was exceptionally desolate. Other than a few pale large trees, there was nothing else, the soil was dry and crackling, there was not a single blade of grass, and the ground was covered with chunks of earth and stones that crumbled into white sand at a touch.

An hour later, Yuan Ming stopped, frowning deeply, and sighed.

Along the way, he had not seen a single soul, and the surroundings were nearly unchanged. Had he not seen the markers he had deliberately left when he started, he would even think he had been circling the same spot.

Continuing this aimless search might just be a waste of time.

Yuan Ming thought for a moment, found a place to sit cross-legged, took out the Silver Token and activated it to form a protective shield, then set down the bag containing the Three-eyed Crow. Subsequently, he summoned the Stealing Heaven Tripod and entered it physically.

Inside the Stealing Heaven Tripod, his first soul was cultivating on the Lotus Platform. Seeing Yuan Ming, it immediately vacated the platform and flew into Yuan Ming's Sea of Consciousness.

Yuan Ming sat on the Lotus Platform, and through the Three-eyed Crow, cast his Divine Sense down to Lank Island.

However, even with the Divine Sense of the realm of a Sleeping Witch, which could search far beyond the ordinary, Yuan Ming still saw nothing but soil and white trees.

Yuan Ming withdrew his Divine Sense, frustratedly rubbing his temples.

Lank Island was mysterious, and finding a way out now seemed to rely on either continuing the search to move beyond the area just scanned or possibly finding someone who might know about this place to ask.

After pondering for a while, Yuan Ming decided to first try the latter option. Yet among his followers, few met the criteria, the most likely knowledgeable ones being Qing Tong and her group.

As people of the Eastern Sea, they certainly knew more about the Three Immortals Island than Yuan Ming, who was from the Central Plains.

With this thought, Yuan Ming closed his eyes and immediately tried to sense the situation of Qing Tong and her group.
