Threads of the Soul

Chapter 374: Three Seth-keteers

"I'm expecting that you are all thinking the same thing that I am, right? But I'll say it anyways, otherwise what's the point of this council.

We need to split up. Live separate lives."

Scar drummed his fingers against the table as he spoke, glancing between the other two. Seth nodded softly, but Corvus frowned in confusion. All of this was much newer to him, he had been alone until he had come here, and so he was behind on the conversation.

He opened his mouth to speak, but Scar quickly held up a hand to silence him before continuing.

"I don't mean that two of us need to give up what we were before. At the end of the day, no matter what we call ourselves we are still Seth. Even if we aren't the original..."

Scars voice trailed off and was quickly overshadowed by the booming, cocky laughter of Corvus. He puffed his chest out more and held his head high.

"Of course you're not the original, because I am! I'm glad that you so readily accepted-"

"He's the original you idiot! He's got the scars. The hand. That's why he gets to keep the name."

Scar pointed towards Seth, who smiled shyly and shrunk back in his chair. Who would have thought that you could have gotten social anxiety when you were speaking with yourself.

Scar lowered his hand, letting out a deep sigh. He combed his fingers through his hair, sweeping it out of his face and slumping back into his chair.

"We can't all live the same life, it would be far too complicated and confusing. Not just for other people, but for us too. We share the same mind, but we don't share memories."

Seth nodded, gesturing to the room around him as he finished Scars thoughts.

"That will be why this room exists, so we can exchange information with each other no matter where we are. But even still, the clone issue exists. The longer we exist, the more we interact with different things in different ways.

We will become different people. We are the same now, but it will be impossible to say how alike we will be another year from now, or ten years or... however long we will live now."

Corvus frowned as he took in the information, leaning his elbows on the table once more and steepling his fingers. He tapped them against his chin as he pondered before letting out a soft chuckle.

"Sly bastard... You didn't just make us choose these names just to identify us better. Did you?"

None of them answered, leaving the question hanging in the air. But none of them needed to either. At this point they still thought the same, or similar enough, that they would all eventually come to the same conclusion.

They had to do what they did best, and multi-task. One would play the role of Lord Corvus, for real this time and not just a puppet sitting in a throne, and lead the city as an active leader.

Another would keep the role of the unassuming Seth, his loyal but strange assistant who seemed to do all sorts of jobs for him. The original role.

These roles had already been decided by the names they had taken, even if they didn't all realise it at the time.

But that left one out. Seth and Corvus glanced at each other before looking towards Scar with worried expressions. They had an idea of what he would do, but they didn't want to ask just in case they were right.

Scar could feel their gazes boring into him and let out another deep sigh, lifting his head to stare at the softly flickering flames of the floating chandelier as he spoke into the air.

"Angel, is my assumption right?"

Silence followed the question as it hung awkwardly in the air. But just as they thought it would be going unanswered, just like the last, Angel appeared before them. Instead of the swirling ball of code that they were used too, this time Angel appeared as... well, an Angel. The traditional kind that most would associate with the name.

They were humanoid, with fluttering white wings perched on their back and white robes draped over their body. Long blonde hair draped down their back, passing between the wings like a golden river passing through a canyon.

While their face was indeed pretty, it was incredibly androgynous, as if they couldn't decide whether they should appear as male or female. Or simply didn't care for the difference at all.

Angel drifted down from the blackness above, landing on one side of the triangular table. They took a brief bow, to greet their master, before speaking in that same emotionless voice they were used to.

[Yes. You are correct. As a being of fused physical and spiritual, the growth of your soul will increase the strength of your body and vice versa.

This growth is also shared amongst you. As you are all composed of fragments of the same soul, when one of you grows, all of you will grow. Just the same as I, a guardian entity fused into your soul, can be heard by all of you.]

Seth and Corvus drummed their fingers in sync, one tapping their fingers against each other while the other drummed the table. But they both drummed the same familiar game tune, the same one that had gotten them caught by Astra, as they processed the information.

Eventually, Seth glanced towards Scar once more, who was staring ahead with empty eyes.

"You are going to go hunting. Aren't you?"

Scar nodded softly, keeping his eyes ahead.

"That's right. We became lax over the last year. We spent too much time working on projects or running around fixing issues. We left growing our strength to the back burner. Puppets hunted, but we didn't eat much.

We grew... complacent. We took a long time to evolve, to become Celestial. There's nothing to say others couldn't have done the same. Plus... We all know there is something more out there.

We can't be lazy again. So while you two work on the home turf, I will carry the burden of strengthening us so we don't get caught off guard again."

"That's honourable and all, but you said it's split amongst us all, right? Doesn't that mean he will have to work three times as hard just to keep up with others, just because he's dragging us behind him? I will not be a burden, especially not to myself!"

Corvus shot a glare towards Angel, slamming his hands down on the table and quickly shooting to his feet. The throne dragged across the floor as he shoved it back, letting out a dreadful screech.

Angel tilted their head, before shaking it softly.

[You are mistaken. You are under the impression that 'share' means that 3 points gained, will be 1 point for all of you.

This is not the case. You are all the same entity. 3 points for one, is 3 points for all.

While it is true he will have to work thrice as hard, it is not because you are a burden. Your situation is a blessing, not a hindrance. If one person has three times the soul, that means-]

"That person can handle three times the burden. Heh... I'll be damned."

Corvus' eyes widened in realisation before he let out a soft chuckle, a sly smirk spreading across his lips.

"It really is One for All."

"And All for One."

The other two spoke in unison, finishing the sentence, before they all broke out into chuckles. Scar turned to angel, raising an eyebrow as he asked,

"What are our current stats anyways?"

Angel nodded and, with a wave of their hand, a scroll appeared in the air before each member of the council of Seth's. The scroll unravelled itself, their stats written on it in flowing, cursive lettering penned with sparkling ink.

But they had no time to appreciate the wonderful showmanship, as they were all immediately drawn in by the numbers written in that glorious calligraphy.

[Name: Sephtis 'Seth' Quinn

Species: Gaian Hybrid

Biological Score: 10,000 Elemental Score: ???

Spiritual Score: 10,000 Psychic Score: 400]

10,000! Just evolving to the next stage had quadrupled their stats! If they faced the Light-bringer now, they would probably have to actively try not to kill him with a mere slap.

At this point, they could undoubtedly topple a skyscraper with one solid punch, although it was unknown if any were left standing to test that theory.

The most amazing part was, this was them at their weakest!

The boys pulled their eyes away from the scroll, sharing a mischievous look and wicked smile, before all breaking out in maniacal laughter.

After a little more discussion between them, mainly clearing up their roles and thinking out loud on certain issues that were on their mind, the councils first meeting was disbanded.

Simultaneously, Seth and Scar left their Soul Abyss, their eyelids fluttering open to find themselves standing in front of each other in the real world once more. However before they could say anything, another voice interjected.

"Welcome back boys~"

In sync, they turned their heads to find Astra lounging in the captains seat. She was wearing a loose crop top and comfortable, silk shorts. She sat with her legs crossed, her outfit giving a clear look at those long, porcelain legs as well as her toned stomach, which was still sporting a few gnarly scars from her encounter with the Lightbringer.

However such a sight didn't put either of them off, instead they were filled with the urge to 'kiss it better'.

While the twins were enraptured by her appearance, Astra let out a soft giggle. She switched the way her legs were crossed, watching as their eyes followed her legs movements like they were hypnotised.

"I sent Nixie to her room with her little pet, we can talk about that later. In fact, we seem to have a lot of things to discuss.

So... there's two of you now~?"

She was practically purring when she asked the question, but it sounded more like the rumbling growl of a lioness about to leap onto her prey.

Seth gulped, taking a second to reorentate himself as he was suddenly feeling mighty thirsty.

"Actually, there's three of us."

Astra's predatory growl grew even more intense as she raised an eyebrow, a devilish smirk dancing across her luscious lips.

"Oh really~ "
