When we returned to the academy it felt like coming home. Despite the assassination attempts I did have a lot of fond memories of the last year. I smiled when our carriage rolled through the gate.
Our first order of business was to grab our new quarters. Being second year students we were now housed one floor higher. We had arrived about one and half weeks before classes started, to give us time to settle in. Thankfully I kept sharing a room with Helena and Cassie stayed with Skadi.
I was busy unpacking my stuff when a maid informed me that the headmaster wanted to see me.
"Me alone?" I wondered.
"Yes." The maid confirmed.
"Don't get us any extra classes this time!" Helena teased as I followed the maid.
Erik Hailstorm greeted me with a smile. "Koyuki! I hope you enjoyed your vacation. I heard you ran into some trouble though."
"Yes sir! Is this about the nightshades?" I asked.
"That is thankfully not my problem." Erik chuckled. "No, for once I have not called you because of a life and death situation. Although, I do have some information, I suppose. We have uncovered evidence that Eva worked with Ilestria, willingly. We have not found the real Eva yet, she might have fled the country. We did have some border skirmishes with Ilestria but so far no side wants to commit to a full war."
"Does that mean they won't try again to kill me? To avoid a full war?" I wondered.
"Not necessarily. I suspect they will lay low for a while but ultimately you are a threat to them. We don't know Ilestria's long term plans." Erik replied.

I nodded. In the end I simply had to become powerful enough to deal with any threats.
"So, back to the actual topic I wanted to talk about: Maids." Erik said, with a smile.
"Maids?" I asked, confused.
"Not just maids, servants in general. As you have noticed, students don't have a bunch of personal servants at the academy. We are training soldiers. Of course they will all be officers, and have some attendants after graduation, but the idea is to not spoil them at the academy. But as a necromancer you are allowed to have undead…"
I could see where he was going with this. "Is this about Hatsumi? I can order her to no longer wear a maid uniform." I suggested.
Erik shook his head. "Her attire is not the problem. During classes she will wear a school uniform. In her free time she can do as she pleases. Having her serve as your maid is technically not against the rules, because she is your undead. Just don't take it too far and be aware of the potential jealousy. Also, do not accept any requests to create servants for other students. That will not be tolerated."
I had not even thought about that. Offering an undead maid service inside the academy could have been an interesting business. At least with tier two undead, I would not subject a tier three to something like that.
"Yes, sir." I replied.
"Good. You are still allowed to use your storage room for your undead. If you want to house your vampire in an actual dorm room you would have to pay. That said, the academy might offer you some money if Hatsumi cooperates with Gronir's research. He is very eager for that…" Erik said.
That was another problem I had not actually considered myself. Where would Hatsumi sleep? My skeletons and the Iron Beaks were all in a storage room, but it was not a nice accommodation for a tier three. I suppose she could have one of our beds if Helena and I shared one…
I stopped that train of thought before I blushed. Gronir, research, that was the important topic right now.
"If Hatsumi is willing, she can work with Gronir. I am excited myself to learn more about vampires." I admitted.
"Gronir will certainly be pleased. He has been anxiously waiting for your return." Erik said, while picking up a piece of paper. "One final thing, being a senior mage qualifies you for some extra classes. You and Helena both, to be exact. Those are voluntary but might offer some interesting benefits."
I took the paper he offered. I liked the sound of benefits. Maybe I could get some interesting corpses to work with? I certainly would browse those offerings later.
"Does that mean we won't have any mandatory extra lessons?" I asked.
His grin looked evil. "Oh no, I fully expect you to have some extra classes to manage your potential. And help deal with any interesting ideas you come up with. Tell me, do you have any plans for experiments I should know about?"
My eyes widened. Cassie's experiment had already happened, thankfully. Did I have anything planned he needed to know about?
"Um, I just want to create more undead, I think. Maybe learn advanced magic that is not joint magic and improve our joint magic…" It was what came to mind on the spot.
"Excellent! I am sure I can find you and your friends some advanced magic classes." He chuckled.
My ears drooped. I might have gotten us extra classes, again.
