This press conference has little to do with Jimmy, as the reporters focused mainly on the joint investigation team and basically ignored him, a former field agent who frequently appeared at press conferences, so there was not much pressure.
Isabel ended the press conference and directly collapsed onto the guest sofa in her office. Such a press conference, which provides no information, is boring and torturous. If it were about other things, she could arrange for someone else to attend the conference, but not for such a major issue. She couldn't possibly send Mrs. Mason out.
Bringing Jimmy was initially to have him help share some of the pressure, but today's reporters showed no interest in Jimmy at all, a complete miscalculation.
After taking a break, Isabel got up and went to Mrs. Mason's office. "Mrs. Mason."
Mrs. Mason: "How was the conference?"
Isabel: "Not bad, at least we can have some peace for a while."
Mrs. Mason nodded. "How is Jimmy doing?"
Isabel: "Quite well, if it weren't for troublesome issues, he could also serve as a spokesperson."
Mrs. Mason: "Then let him handle the subsequent press conferences for this case, and notify him to confirm the current progress with the investigation team."
Isabel frowned: "This case? I'm worried..."
Mrs. Mason: "Don't worry, he can handle it."
Isabel: "Alright, I'll make the arrangements."
-----------------
Jimmy was a bit surprised to learn he would be the spokesman for the next press conference. Previously, Mrs. Mason had told him he would stay in the Public Affairs Office for a while before returning to fieldwork, which was also the idea of Dave and Hughes. So why was he suddenly being made a formal spokesperson?
According to Isabel's arrangements, Jimmy got up, picked up the notepad and pen on the table, and walked to the field office.
He didn't know the people who came from Washington, D.C., or where they were, but he knew where Mahong was, so he went directly to the Homicide Team's office, but it was empty.
Sniffing, Jimmy walked to Karaway's office. "Knock knock," Karaway looked up and saw Jimmy, motioned for him to come in, and casually covered a document on the table.
Jimmy: "Chief Karaway, I'm Jimmy Yang from the Public Affairs Office. Mrs. Mason sent me to understand the case situation to prepare for the upcoming press conference."
Karaway: "Please consult directly with the joint investigation team for the case situation. I haven't received the latest case report."
Jimmy: "Alright, where is the investigation team currently located?"
Karaway: "At the command center."
Jimmy: "Thank you, Chief Karaway."
Jimmy turned and left Karaway's office, and the smile on his face quickly vanished. When he went in just now, the document Karaway covered exposed a corner, and though there wasn't much content visible, the most important document number was exposed.
This number was familiar to Jimmy; it was his own, which he had checked more than once in his FBI file, as incomplete data before had always worried him about potential problems in his FBI file.
It seemed that when he met Karaway yesterday, she noticed him, so she investigated his information.
He saw a familiar face at the command center; Mahong wasn't out but was on duty there.
Jimmy: "Mahong. How's the investigation going?"
Mahong: "Oh, Jimmy, are you joining the investigation team too?"
Jimmy: "No, I'm still in the Public Affairs Office, but I've been arranged to be the spokesperson later, so I came to coordinate with your progress."
Mahong: "The investigation is going smoothly, but James Bennett has disappeared, and we can't find any leads. We're currently investigating in different directions. Peter has been sent to prison, and we've obtained his statement."
Jimmy: "Have you confirmed the gun issue? Peter was dismissed before the shooting, surrendered his badge and gun. Why did the gun end up in James Bennett's hands?"
Mahong frowned: "Where did you get this information? What else do you know?"
Jimmy: "You know, New York's reporters are very strong in intelligence; they also gave a lead. Before the shooting, Senator Pratt reported an incident, and Neil Cavrey and James Bennett were wanted by the FBI."
Mahong: "Anything else?"
Jimmy shook his head; Hughes' phone recording cannot be used as evidence, nor was it authorized for surveillance, making it impossible to give it to Mahong.
Mahong: "Okay, I'll have them investigate these two anomalies, as no one has mentioned these yet. The people from D.C. have completed the on-site investigation and evidence investigation and are tracking Bennett. Peter's statement points to him."
Jimmy: "Alright, that's it then, it seems there are no immediate breakthroughs. I'll head back first, and I'll come back tomorrow."
-----------------
He didn't gain much useful intelligence from Mahong's side, but there's no rush, as a press conference was just held today. The next one certainly needs some time; checking every day should be enough to handle the press conference.
Jimmy returned to the office, explained the situation to Isabel, and then went back to his place to wait for the end of the day.
In the evening, Jimmy was watching a movie with Nia in the apartment when the phone suddenly rang. He glanced at it, took his phone, and went to the study. Nia watched Jimmy leave and picked up the remote to lower the volume, to avoid disturbing his phone call.
Jimmy answered the phone: "Hughes, what's up?"
Hughes: "Come by my place before work tomorrow morning, there's something we need to discuss face to face."
