North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 561: Investigation (Part 2)

Jimmy: "Moratti, I'm FBI Senior Agent Jimmy Yang. Your people informed me of the lead, Ruiz had to head back."

Moratti frowned at Jimmy, waited a few seconds, then his expression changed and he nodded slightly, "I understand, can you leave me your phone number?"

Jimmy took out his phone and dialed, waited for Moratti's phone to ring, and then hung up. He handed a photo of Nate and Penny to Moratti, "Thanks, I'll wait for your call. Also, I'm looking for these two people. This car should be the one they used; get your people on it."

Moratti: "Of course, I will. I'll arrange for someone to come over right away."

Jimmy nodded, turned, left the restaurant, and drove away from the area.

Just relying on one gang definitely isn't enough, Jimmy thought. There's no way the officials can thoroughly investigate such a large area. The key is that robbers will likely hide in abandoned houses or warehouses, places the authorities have difficulty reaching.

Parking on the roadside, Jimmy dialed Winston's phone number.

Jimmy: "Winston, I need your help. I'm trying to find two people in the south of Brooklyn, it's urgent. Do you have any advice? I'm offering a cash reward, but I can't make it too public. I don't want every gang in New York coming out to look for them—it'd make too much noise."

Winston: "Oh, you really seem anxious. Let me think, which area do you need?"

Jimmy: "From Brooklyn Bridge to Prospect Park, and if possible, the southern part of this area too. I have their photos and names, but don't know where they're hiding."

Winston: "Understood, might cost you a pretty penny."

Jimmy: "I'm waiting for your quote."

Winston: "Someone will contact you shortly."

-----------------

While Jimmy was busy looking for the duo, Jones and the others weren't idly waiting—they were still investigating with the data they had.

Nate, who escaped last week, robbed and kidnapped Peter today. They've gathered all his possessions from the prison, and collected all correspondence between him and Penny during their time in jail. They're investigating this information to try and find clues about their whereabouts.

Today they robbed a boutique of a bottle of Queen Mary's perfume from the bedroom, and surveillance footage showed Penny wearing Marilyn Monroe's ring, stolen two days ago. It's speculated they're stealing items they once promised each other.

The reason for this conclusion is two clues found in the letters. One suggests they hoped to be together after getting out, hence the ring theft. The other implies Nate would treat Penny like a queen, which explains stealing Queen Mary's perfume.

The task now is to investigate other contents in the letters to find their next target.

They've already robbed twice in three days; the third might happen soon, within the next couple of days. This isn't good news for Peter and Elizabeth, who are kidnapped, since the robbers clearly can't distinguish between critical matters.

The Joint Command Center is also examining surveillance footage. They've confirmed that they're in Brooklyn but lost the target after several intersections, with no signs of the car in subsequent surveillance.

That's the downside; there aren't enough FBI personnel to send everyone down to investigate. It relies on technical investigation and deduction of leads, which might take a while.

Jimmy waited a while, and his phone rang—a call from an unknown number, "This is Jimmy."

"Mr. Yang, how soon can you get to the south end of Brooklyn Bridge?"

Jimmy glanced around, "Fifteen minutes."

"Call me when you arrive."

Jimmy: "OK."

This must be the contact Winston provided. Jimmy started the car, heading to Brooklyn Bridge—not far from the bureau, and daytime traffic was manageable, not delaying too much.

Arriving at the south end of Brooklyn Bridge, Jimmy didn't cross it; he parked at the crossroads below and called to report his position. Soon someone walked over and tapped on Jimmy's car window.

Jimmy turned to look, a homeless man gestured for him to open the door. Jimmy unlocked it, inviting him inside. The man gave directions, leading Jimmy to a parking lot.

"Please follow me, I'll take you to meet Bowery King."

The homeless man exited the car and signaled Jimmy to follow. They walked to a nearby building, heading up to the rooftop.

This was a gathering spot for the homeless. Starting from the ground floor, many people in ragged, shabby clothes were hanging around. Inside, there were more people, slightly better off, but dressed in similar attire.

However, in Jimmy's Heart Eye Vision, this building was no ordinary place. He could clearly see many rooms inside where people were busily engaged in various activities. Moreover, lots of objects resembling weapons were discovered in rooms, with people holding some in their hands, indicating this might be a gang headquarters or, at least, a base with substantial firepower.

On the rooftop, a short-haired man with a beard, holding a pigeon, stood before Jimmy, "Jimmy Yang. The Warrior of Manhattan! Butcher of Little Rock! The youngest legendary agent of the FBI! Didn't expect us to have dealings."
