North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 489: Threat

Jimmy was still waiting in the same spot. There was no way to easily resolve today's events, so his off-duty time wasn't fixed either. He took out his phone and called Nia. They had planned to watch a game that evening, but now they'd have to cancel.

After learning that the FBI had lost an agent, Nia understood Jimmy's situation. If the same thing happened with the NYPD, their reaction would be similar. However, the NYPD has more officers, so when something like this happens, patrol cars gather immediately, and all nearby officers converge to find the perpetrator.

The FBI was at a disadvantage, especially since the case Ryan and his team were handling wasn't publicly known within the bureau. When the gunfight broke out, no one knew about it.

After waiting a while longer, Lauren Taylor walked over. "Jimmy, there's news."

Jimmy: "Has the fingerprint been matched?"

Taylor: "Matched to three people. Many fingerprints are still under investigation. I need to head back and fetch some documents. Will you wait here or come with me?"

Jimmy: "I'll wait here; someone else will be coming over soon. If I'm not here when you get back, give me a call."

Taylor: "Alright, take care of your things. I'm heading back now."

The crime scene in this house was still cordoned off. The agents investigating had finished and left, leaving only two NYPD officers to temporarily guard the scene to prevent damage.

Crime scene tape can block many people, but there's always someone who will cross the line to go inside, leading to potential damage or theft of items from the scene. This is not uncommon. So usually, police officers are assigned to guard the area until it's confirmed there's no need for further investigation, although the tape remains.

Jimmy returned to his car, waiting for news from Ruiz.

There was no hope for the traffic in New York. Ruiz called saying he had found some information, but it was nearly an hour before he arrived.

Ruiz parked behind Jimmy's car. There were not many Suburbans on the road, so Jimmy's car stood out quite a bit. Ruiz got out of the car, and an Indian-American agent, Razba Razi, stepped out from the passenger side.

Jimmy: "Hey, Ruiz, Razi. Razi, how come you're with Ruiz?"

Razi: "It's on my way. I live not far away on 55th Street."

Jimmy nodded, "Ruiz, did you find anything?"

Ruiz: "Yeah, this area is quite complicated; barely considered Red Dragon Gang's territory, but not far from Black Gang."

Jimmy: "Black Gang? Sounds like there are a lot of African-Americans involved?"

Ruiz: "Quite a few. But the Black Gang does have a higher percentage of African-Americans."

Jimmy: "Let's go with them. Taylor from field operations will bring the fingerprint match info later. Let's wait a bit more."

Ruiz nodded. Razi spoke up: "Sorry, guys, I can't help you with this case. I need to go pack and prepare for a business trip."

Jimmy: "No need to apologize, Razi. You hurry back now."

Razi shook hands with both and left. Jimmy asked Ruiz, "Razi is from the cyber fraud department, right?"

Ruiz: "Yeah, he's considered a specialist. He's a second-generation Indian moved last year, mainly involved in phone scam cases."

Jimmy: "I rarely see him around. If I didn't have some impression of him, I might not even remember his name."

Ruiz: "How's Ryan doing? I haven't been to the hospital to see him yet."

Jimmy: "He's fine. He got shot in the right chest and abdomen, and his head might have hit the ground or steps, causing a mild concussion. He's past the dangerous stage; it's not a big issue. Derek wasn't as lucky; he got shot in the heart. We don't wear bullet-proof vests all the time when out on missions, which is indeed a bit risky."

Ruiz sighed, "We're not patrol officers; we can't go out in bullet-proof vests every day."

Jimmy: "Be more cautious during cases in the future. You can skip the suits, but always have a bullet-proof vest ready."

-----------------

It wasn't until evening that Taylor returned, handing Jimmy a stack of papers. "Daquan Johnson, 32 years old, with many criminal records. The most recent one was armed robbery; he got out last year, currently unemployed.

Malik Williams, 27 years old, has various criminal records from youth, including burglary and robbery, in and out of prison many times. He was released early this year.

The owner of this house is Maria Garcia, 35 years old, from New York, currently living with her boyfriend in Washington, D.C. The house was rented out through a real estate agency, and the tenant has been confirmed to be Malik Williams."

Jimmy: "How could someone like that afford this house? What a joke. There's no way they have that much money. The rent for this kind of house is definitely not less than three thousand bucks; even a white-collar worker would have to think it over carefully before renting such a place."

Taylor nodded, "I think the same. I already arranged for someone to investigate the agency company's records and Malik Williams' rental payment, but it'll take some time."

Jimmy: "These two definitely have issues, and that agency company is definitely not clean. Judging by their records, the landlord would never have agreed to rent the house to them."

Ruiz: "They've probably got something going on, and it's a big matter."

Jimmy: "Let's go. These kinds of people are probably connected with those around them. Taylor, care to join us?"

Taylor: "Of course, let's go."

The three of them each drove their own cars, with Ruiz leading the way. They drove two streets and stopped near a bar at an intersection.
