Hughes looked around at everyone and waved his hand, "Let's take a break for now, you guys go back first, and we'll have another meeting after Ryan arrives."
Everyone nodded their heads, stood up, and left the conference room. Ruiz reached out and pulled on Jimmy, who slowed down to walk alongside Ruiz towards his office.
Ruiz let Jimmy into the office, glanced outside, and closed the glass door.
Ruiz, "Jimmy, any thoughts?"
Jimmy nodded, "This has definitely got to do with gangs, especially T14. The first video must have been surveillance they set up."
Ruiz, "No doubt about it with Scarface's incident, they probably did it out of retaliation since we found their stash. But the second video is weird. It's been a long time since the incident; that video should have leaked a long ago. They're bringing it out now, must be with some purpose, it's just that we're not clear what it is."
Jimmy, "Could it just be MS13 trying to get back at us?"
Ruiz, "Well, MS13 had contacted me after that incident, they were already yielding, they wouldn't do something like this."
Jimmy, "Then I'm out of ideas; I haven't crossed any other gangs, have I?"
Ruiz, "This is troublesome, your identity, your ethnicity, they could all become targets for attack. You have to be extra careful these days. Let's see how Hughes and the others handle it today. If things really get out of hand, it will be really bad for you."
Jimmy nodded, "I know, I just... Why are there so many rats in the FBI? The house is already leaking everywhere!"
Ruiz sighed as well, the world was going to hell.
Jimmy shook his head, "Anyway, thinking about it now is pointless, let's just wait and see later."
Jimmy turned and left Ruiz's office, returning to his own. Chris was still out, leaving him alone again, unable to hold back any longer, he punched the desk.
"Fxxk, don't let me find out who did this," Jimmy dropped a fierce line into the air.
Sitting at his desk, Jimmy was in a bad mood. The situation in the first video was easy to explain because those four victims were still in the hospital, they weren't dead, just a press conference could handle it.
But the second video was a tough one, even though the internal inquiry had gone smoothly, it was because they were all our own people, a lot of things could be discussed. If really explained to the public like that, many might not accept the reasons Jimmy put forth.
Oh, wait, the first video wasn't easy to explain either, why there was dialogue with them, because the bomb case wasn't at a point where it could be made public. That press conference probably wouldn't happen either.
As Jimmy was contemplating, the phone rang, Detective Chuck from the NYPD.
Jimmy, "Hi."
Chuck, "Is that you? Be honest."
Jimmy with a puzzled face, "What?"
Chuck, "The videos being played by the news stations, the two videos."
Jimmy, "What videos? I haven't seen them; I've been working on a case lately."
Chuck, "You better go take a look first, it's pretty interesting. Bye." Click, Chuck hung up the phone.
Jimmy really couldn't admit it, as the bureau hadn't given any instruction yet, everything was about keeping secrets and stalling. Regarding Chuck's call, Jimmy couldn't say anything.
After Chuck hung up, Nia beside him asked, "You sure now?"
Chuck nodded, "Almost certain, his response was off. Don't disclose anything yet; I'll contact some people at the police station in Brooklyn and ask around."
Nia nodded, "Hard to believe he's that tough."
While looking up a phone number, Chuck said, "Of course, to be that young and in the FBI and handle cases independently, he has to be very capable. Did you see him arrive with anyone else? It's obvious now that Chris, the squad leader, is just a figurehead."
Nia pondered while Chuck found the number and made the call, eventually confirming after talking to a few people.
"No mistake about it, the first patrol officer on the scene said it was an Asian FBI agent. The only one in the Manhattan office capable of that is definitely him. Nia, don't miss out on such an impressive man."
Nia rolled her eyes at Chuck and turned back to her desk.
Jimmy skipped going downstairs for lunch, having someone bring up a couple of burgers to get through the afternoon until finally, Ryan arrived at Hughes's office, and Hughes gathered them back into the conference room.
The afternoon meeting was still closed off to outsiders; it was just the people from the morning plus Ryan who came over on short notice.
Hughes, "Ryan, how's the situation on your end? Did the investigation yield anything?"
Ryan shook his head, "No way to investigate. After the inquiry of this case ended, I uploaded all the documents. Theoretically, everyone who could access internal documents could see the related content, pretty much only excluding trainee agents and administrative staff. It's tough to determine who released the videos."
Hughes, "How about the tech department? What's their conclusion?"
Ryan, "The video has been viewed over a thousand times. The system did not record who accessed and viewed it, so there's no way to trace it. But they have an idea that the version played on the news is not the original video, meaning someone took it from the system and deliberately processed it before leaking it, that's why it's blurry on the news. If there's really a full staff investigation, it's best to start by looking for someone who can handle the video editing equipment. The workload involved could be huge."
