North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 444: 339 Nostalgic Times_3

Jimmy transferred all equipment to the newly assigned vehicle before heading to the station wagon's location, where the two members of the forensic team began a comprehensive examination and evidence collection of the vehicle.

They photographed the vehicle from multiple angles, particularly the front bumper. Jimmy hadn't used the vehicle's front to hit any other cars or obstacles during the PIT maneuver. Theoretically, it was still necessary to match this bumper with the dents on the rear bumper of investigative reporter Ashi's car, which was the most critical reason they were searching for this vehicle.

Second was the vehicle's contents, including items inside the car, fingerprints on the steering wheel and other parts, and whether there was any bloodstain, etc. Because the case could be severe, they spared no steps and needed to preserve all evidence for identification.

Jimmy stood aside, daydreaming. There was a professional team handling the scene investigation, and he didn't want to get in the way and potentially cause issues.

"Jimmy, come and take a look."

Jimmy walked to the station wagon and looked at the spot the forensic personnel were pointing at. Fuck, the sight of the round tubes unsettled him. Generally, tubes wouldn't scare anyone, but when wires were attached, even professionals would get nervous.

Jimmy: "Is this what I think it is?"

The forensic personnel nodded: "It's very likely. I think we need the bomb squad here."

Jimmy: "Call them, now, immediately. Let's move away from here for now."

The forensic personnel nodded, and both, carrying their toolboxes, followed Jimmy to his vehicle, about 20 meters away from the station wagon.

Jimmy looked at the station wagon and felt a twinge of frustration; today's events were extremely vexing. First, he was held at gunpoint by the police, and now he'd found a bomb attached to the car he was chasing. If it had exploded while he was pursuing it, he would have been a goner.

Jimmy picked up his cell phone and dialed Chris's number: "Chris, there are several suspicious tubes underneath that station wagon, resembling a bomb. We've already contacted the bomb squad for support. When interrogating, make sure to find out what's going on. Who the fuck puts a bomb on their own car?"

Chris was shocked too. A bomb on one's own car? Was this person seeking death? Moreover, speeding away in a street chase? One mishap and they could be reduced to ashes.

After hanging up, Chris went back to the interrogation room. The suspect driver hadn't answered any questions and hadn't even requested a lawyer. Currently, he was still at that moment just after being arrested, with resistance at its strongest. Chris knew it would be a slow grind, which is why he hadn't applied any strong tactics earlier, sticking to routine questioning.

Chris had planned to proceed with standard interrogation procedures, but now, it seemed necessary to get tough. If the bomb squad confirmed the device under the car was indeed a bomb, this case would escalate from a murder to a potential terrorist attack.

Chris continued his questioning, of course without any answers. He casually gestured for the stenographer to follow him out, leaving the handcuffed suspect alone in the interrogation room.

After half an hour of waiting, the FBI's bomb squad arrived, with one member suiting up quickly in the Explosive-proof Suit and a bomb helmet before approaching the station wagon.

He crouched down to examine the tubes under the vehicle, then lay flat on the ground to crawl beneath it before turning and lying back to inspect the tubes more closely.

Jimmy went over to the bomb squad's van, listening to them discuss the bomb's design and handling procedure. Clearly, they were alarmed, but actually, the bomb was an incomplete product.

After the bomb squad dismantled the bomb and placed it into a specially designed explosive-proof container, the bomb technician then removed the suit and explained the situation to Jimmy and his team.

It was a false alarm; the bomb under the car was just a detonator, containing explosive materials, but its power wasn't significant, capable at most of destroying the car alone. However, the car's undercarriage had been modified, with a tube leading to the back seat area. If a large bomb was placed in the rear seat or trunk, this incomplete device could be used as a detonator. The structure indicated there also seemed to be a space for a signal control device, such as fixing a phone or wireless equipment.

The bomb technician drew a simple diagram for Jimmy, showing the bomb's design and plans for further modifications. Strictly speaking, the car was a shell for a bomb that, once fitted with its main charge and trigger, could be turned into a super bomb.

Jimmy listened carefully to the bomb technician's explanation. This information needed to be relayed to Chris, although the bomb squad would issue a report later, there was no time to wait.

With the bomb dismantled, the forensic team could resume their work. Jimmy, holding the diagram from the bomb squad, thanked them and saw them off from the police parking area.

After the forensic team finished with the station wagon, Jimmy returned to the office and handed the diagram to Chris.

Jimmy: "The bomb squad confirmed it's a detonator for a massive bomb. This diagram roughly outlines the design. We've certainly caught a big fish. Has he confessed?"

Chris: "That guy is a diehard; he hasn't said a word so far. We haven't found his fingerprints in the criminal database, and we have already sent his photo to check against the photo database, hoping to identify him."

Jimmy arrived outside the interrogation room and looked through the one-way glass. The suspect was Caucasian with stubble on his face. Judging by the stubble, he probably hadn't shaved for two or three days, and he had a large beard with short, curly brown hair—such features were indeed not very conspicuous.
