North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 424: 331 Support Field Office_3

This was the trouble from Jimmy's perspective—both groups appeared suspicious, but it was impossible to determine which group had the two suspects who had injured the agent. They would have to make a judgment call on the spot. Fortunately, Ryan and his team knew what these two looked like. As soon as they appeared, they would be able to identify them.

Jimmy and his team went up to the third floor. As they ascended, Jimmy had already taken the opportunity to scan the people on the fourth floor. They looked normal for the most part, except a few rooms housed children. These were the individuals they needed to pay extra attention to—absolutely ensuring they were not harmed, as that would be difficult to explain later.

"Knock, knock," "FBI, please open the door," Ryan called out as he knocked on the door. The door opened a crack, still secured by a safety chain, and a young man poked his head out and asked, "What do you want?"

"There are two armed suspects that ran into this apartment building. For your safety, we need to locate them quickly." Although Ryan had said this many times, he had yet to force the door open, upholding his professional ethics.

"They didn't come into our room," he said as he began to close the door.

"Stop, please open the door so we can check. Once we're sure they're not here, you can go downstairs to safety. The suspects are armed and dangerous, and we need to ensure your safety," Ryan pressed against the door, preventing it from being closed. After two pushes without managing to close it, the young man finally gave up. Having seen the array of FBI outside, he was genuinely nervous, "OK, OK. I'll open the door."

The young man briefly closed the door to remove the safety chain and then opened it, standing to the side. Ryan was at the front, Jimmy at the back, "Stop, show your right hand." Jimmy shouted a command, and Ryan immediately stopped, twisting the shield towards the young man. At that moment, someone fired a gun from the direction of a bedroom door.

Fortunately, Ryan hadn't completely turned around, and the shield was still covering most of his body. The perpetrator's bullets hit the bullet-proof shield after two loud bangs. Then, Jimmy extended his revolver from the side of the shield, firing two shots before turning the barrel towards the young man who had opened the door. The shooter was no longer a concern, as Jimmy's targets were the chest and head. Although the angle wasn't great, Jimmy had previously noted his position, allowing for precise hits. The .357 Magnum ensured there was nothing to worry about.

"Don't move, raise both hands, raise your right hand," Jimmy shouted at the young man, gun pointed.

This room was one of two he had noticed in a state of disarray earlier. From Ryan's expression, it was clear these two were not their targets. The other four agents hadn't entered but stood with shields at the door to prevent any attacks from behind.

The young man slowly pulled his right hand from behind his back, dropping a handgun to the floor. There was nothing more to be said. Jimmy stepped aside, letting the third agent enter to handcuff the young man, while Ryan and Jimmy checked the gunman on the floor then proceeded to search the nearby bedroom and the kitchen area.

"Shots fired, one suspect down, please call an ambulance. Not our target, proceed," Ryan completed the room check, grabbed the radio from his belt, pressed the talk button, and communicated with the team below.

After Ryan and Jimmy came back out, the third agent, under the cover of the shield, escorted the young man to the staircase. The police would take him downstairs. Jimmy and his team continued to the next room. He didn't reload his ammo—four rounds were sufficient. This time, as Ryan was knocking on the door, shots were fired through the door, creating holes at torso height on the wooden door.

"Shotgun," Jimmy shouted. The third agent, who had escorted the young man, quickly returned and positioned himself at an angle next to the door. He fired a shotgun blast at close range to the lock, preparing a door-breaching round for emergencies. Suitable for breaking old-style door locks, the breaching round reliably blasted the lock and parts of the frame away.

Using the shield for protection, Ryan kicked the door, ensuring there was no safety chain. He then moved aside slightly, Jimmy kicking the door, provoking further gunfire aimed at their position. Ryan and Jimmy retreated behind the wall next to the door, a brick wall that was nearly impenetrable by bullets, providing safety as long as they avoided the firing line from the door.

When the gunfire from inside paused, Jimmy, disregarding Ryan, swiftly moved to the doorway and opened fire on pre-sighted targets inside—two shots, one to the body, one to the head. Teaming with Ryan, this firing rhythm was still the best, and since they had been backstopped by surveillance footage before, Jimmy didn't have to be overly cautious now.

Killing one suspect, Jimmy immediately moved away from the doorway, Ryan advanced, covering Jimmy as he entered the room, "Don't shoot, I surrender!" someone inside the bedroom yelled.

"Drop your weapon, raise both hands, and come out slowly," Ryan didn't advance but directed the person inside the bedroom from behind his shield. Although the person hesitated for a moment, he ultimately raised both hands and exited the bedroom.

With the situation smoothly resolved, Jimmy moved forward to handcuff him, handing him over to the agents behind. Ryan then inspected the room. It was clear the inhabitants weren't home. How had they entered? He had not noticed any damage to the lock when the door had been closed earlier.

Having confirmed these two were indeed Ryan's targets, Jimmy's mission was also deemed complete. Besides the two agents injured at the beginning, no other agents were harmed, a satisfactory outcome. As for what these two had done, that was something Ryan and his team would handle. Jimmy followed them down, resting on the side.

The scene was inspected jointly by NYPD and FBI agents. The man who had shot at Ryan was declared dead, and the handcuffed young man was secured in a police car, waiting to be taken back to the FBI later.

The post-incident scene handling was left to others; Ryan and Jimmy rode back to the Queens field office in an NYPD police car.
