The population of New York State is relatively large, but mainly concentrated in several major cities. Outside of these cities, the population density is low, which provides these people with opportunities to run and hide.
On the small table is a large map of New York State, currently with some circles marked, mostly concentrated south of Albany. However, there's one circle out west that's far from the others. Besides the circles, there are a few circles marked with an X.
Agent Raymond pointed at the circles and said, "These are the areas we have confirmed as abnormal; these are locations we've temporarily eliminated as targets. The places where fighting occurred are Cairo, Andes, and Binghamton.
Since all the reports are eyewitness accounts without any image data, it's currently impossible to confirm if the people they encountered are the same group. They are all wearing jungle camouflage and only appear near wooded areas, not entering the city. We can also confirm they didn't use vehicles; at least, there is no such information at present."
"Where was the initial detention center for the suspects? And where is the hospital they went to?"
Looking at the map, Jimmy's first question wasn't about the suspects' current location but their starting point. He believes their escape is planned, and given the mercenaries' strong fighting capabilities, their destination must relate to their current route, even if they're not moving directly forward.
Raymond understood Jimmy's thoughts and marked two locations on the map, near the suburban area east of the Hudson River. "Their current route is likely toward western and northern New York. From this, they might be trying to break the border and enter Canada, whether across Lake Ontario or the land boundary to the north; there are plenty of options to get into Canada."
Jimmy nodded, continuing to view the points on the map. The locations aren't far apart. With their mobility, is it suspicious they've only moved such a short distance in three days?
Mahong: "Where were the points of contact with them?"
The map is already marked, and Raymond pointed to several circles in order, "In sequence, we found their clues on the first day, expanded the search range on the second day, which was when we first discovered their trail. In the following two days, our people and local police encountered them four times. Everyone involved in the encounters was injured, one person was shot on the right chest side and is still in ICU, but there were no fatalities."
Jimmy directly asked, "How many were injured overall?"
Raymond: "Six DHS agents, two FBI agents from the Albany office, five local police officers, and one state trooper."
Jimmy and Mahong exchanged a glance; these losses were already considerable. "What about the others? Are they all dispersed?"
Raymond: "Yes, we're operating from a temporary command center here; others are spread out searching and posted to cut off their escape routes. The aerial support group is already deployed, with three support helicopters equipped with infrared surveillance searching along the route."
"Eagle One is returning to refuel."
A voice came out of the nearby walkie-talkie. Jimmy asked, "Will the helicopter refuel here?"
Raymond: "Correct, we brought two tanker trucks for helicopter refueling, as we may need to relocate at any time."
Jimmy: "Okay, understood. So let's begin. Truthfully, our engagements with the enemy weren't particularly intense."
Raymond nodded and began gathering the agents still resting here, letting Jimmy and Mahong explain the prior encounter in New York City.
Mahong actually recounted more than Jimmy, as he and Jones were pinned down by the Demon Wolf's three members near the surveillance vehicle, almost resulting in Jones' demise. The enemy's strength was indeed terrifying.
However, since they were in the city, the enemy didn't completely escalate things by using grenades or similar attacking weapons—this differed entirely from the fully armed mercenaries in the wild now.
Mahong repeatedly emphasized the enemy's precision and quick reflexes, urging everyone to hide behind cover when encountering them, and never remove their bullet-proof vests. If needed, everyone should add inserts to their vests.
Everyone agreed on this point; the injured personnel weren't unarmed but the soft bullet-proof vests couldn't stop rifle bullets. If not for the enemy's restraint, our injuries would've been fatal.
Jimmy's explanation was rather dull because he didn't face as much pressure personally. If it weren't for the necessity to solve subsequent problems, many involved might not have survived.
But he knew more about Mahong's side, particularly during the kidnapping instance where two bodyguards were executed with headshots by the Demon Wolf Mercenaries from a moving vehicle using pistols. This point was crucial for other agents, a clear testament to the enemy's marksmanship: hoping for the enemy's mistake is reckless; evading bullet paths is wiser.
Afterward, Jimmy and Mahong quickly ate something and left by car with a team. They'll join the investigation group, seeking traces of the enemy as they head northwest towards the US-Canada border.
