Chapter 662: The Unlucky DHS

The DHS joke is definitely something to keep an eye on. Jimmy didn't go back to his office for a lunch break but instead went straight to Mahong's office: "What's going on with DHS?"

Mahong, who rarely showed any expression, slightly smiled when he heard Jimmy's question, though it quickly disappeared. "Do you remember that mercenary group from before?"

Jimmy: "The Demon Wolf Mercenary Group, right? We caught their intelligence officer. I forgot his name."

Mahong: "That's right, they've taken action."

Jimmy chuckled, "Come on, let's go to my place. We can have some tea and you can tell me what's going on."

Mahong waved it off: "Let's skip the tea. It's quite simple, really. Their intelligence officer, Max Haidler, is already in Federal Prison. On Saturday, he had a stomachache. The painkillers weren't effective, and the doctor diagnosed it as possible appendicitis, needing hospital treatment.

After the prison informed DHS, they arranged for four prison guards to drive Haidler to the hospital. However, DHS had been monitoring outside the prison for a long time and could not allocate too many personnel there, leaving only two agents.

They temporarily notified the police to assist in the transport. However, the Demon Wolf group did not act on the road but waited until they arrived at the hospital. Haidler accompanied by a fake doctor for tests, during which the two accompanying guards were knocked out by the imposter, allowing Haidler to escape the hospital.

They changed into clothes that had been hidden in the testing room and escaped through the window to the top of the adjacent building before making a run for it. When the DHS people noticed something was wrong and pursued them, they only found an abandoned motorcycle; the suspects had vanished.

They are now blocking roads surrounding the prison to investigate the escape, but so far, there's been no result."

Jimmy: "How did they know it was a fake doctor?"

Mahong: "The real doctor was not even at the hospital. He had left two days ago for a medical conference. From what we can gather, their prison break plan had been prepared for some time. They had learned about the doctor's schedule and found someone who looked similar to impersonate him, wearing a doctor's coat and mask. No one else noticed."

Jimmy: "This is a big embarrassment for them, but it doesn't involve us, right? After all, it's a prison break case."

Mahong: "It doesn't involve us for now. DHS took the lead on this mission, and since it went wrong, it's their issue. They're the ones currently in a mess."

Jimmy nodded: "It's only been two days; they might still catch them. It depends on how many resources they're willing to invest in the search."

Mahong: "Probably a lot. This was a major embarrassment for them, and I've heard the prison issued a gag order."

Jimmy: "It shouldn't be hard to find them. If Haidler was sent to the hospital for appendicitis, the doctor must have already confirmed it. In such pain, they couldn't have run far."

Mahong: "Yes, that's what I think too. It's just a matter of how broadly they can extend their search now. Given two days, if nothing major goes wrong, there should be news soon. That's all the information I have for now. I'll let you know if anything else comes up."

Jimmy: "OK, it's not every day you get excitement like this. I'll head back now."

Jimmy left Mahong's office in good spirits. The mercenary group incident had shown signs even before Jimmy got married. DHS people had picked up on plans for a jailbreak through NSA surveillance and came to the FBI to get a briefing on the situation back then.

However, they later decided it wasn't necessary to involve the FBI and handled it themselves. As Mahong was responsible for the mercenary group's art heist case, he wasn't made aware of their subsequent plans, so DHS had to handle all matters and consequences. If they try to shirk responsibility, they're in for some dealing.

Jimmy called Agent Lars to check in and find out the current progress on the kidnapping case.

It's not just about solving the case; afterward, all materials need to be compiled and submitted to the Federation Prosecutor's office, who will then prosecute the suspect. Certain processes follow after the case has been investigated; the duration of these can vary depending on the size and complexity of the case. If the case is concluded, Jimmy will need to organize related leave for Mark and Julia.

Jimmy was particularly hard-pressed. Because of his honeymoon, he not only used up his vacation days but also took continuous leave, leaving everything to Mark and Julia. They said nothing, but one look at their work pace showed they were practically running at full steam, so they deserved some staggered rest days.

Then there's Julia, whose psychological intervention needs to continue. Dr. Mary had called Jimmy; it seemed everything was outwardly normal with Julia, but it was obvious she was putting up a facade. Several more hours of therapy sessions are needed, so it's a good opportunity to have her complete all the psychological interventions during her rest days.

Jimmy, who had taken out so many people, would typically undergo certain procedures, but the OPR had already started the process even before the case was fully closed. For others, it would be like getting minor problems for no reason, but Jimmy's inquiry and investigation proceeded smoothly, purely to silence others, not intending for him to actually take a rest.

However, Jimmy wasn't bored for long before hearing from Mahong that DHS had surprisingly located the suspect's whereabouts. Two police officers participating in the search were shot, successfully discovering the fleeing suspect, but they were ambushed before they could notify anyone else.
