North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 627: Fake Passport

Bronx District, every time Jimmy visits here, he feels like it's a whole different world compared to Manhattan, especially the FBI office in Manhattan's Lower District and Jimmy's apartment on the Upper West Side, which are safer and filled with business and professional personnel, along with tourists. But here in the Bronx, the ratio of skin colors has changed, and various people who don't seem quite upright wander the streets, and there are more homeless people.

At the shooting scene parking, Jimmy got out of the car and noticed a lot of hidden and openly curious onlookers around. Mark and Julia displayed their FBI badges while checking the scene, and surely some of the onlookers had already recognized their identities.

Jimmy: "Julia, how's it going?"

Julia shook her head: "I previously thought it was NYPD's careless investigation. Just now, the two of us walked around the area, and there aren't any surveillance cameras nearby, the only two are a bit far and already damaged, purely for decoration."

Jimmy smirked, it was normal for such situations to happen in the Bronx. Having surveillance would severely hinder many people from getting things done, and some would specifically destroy usable cameras, including traffic cameras.

Jimmy: "No cameras then, let's take a look at the scene first."

Mark and Julia brought Jimmy to the scene, handed him the schematic diagram for an initial understanding, then stood at the suspected shooter's position while Jimmy stood at the driver's seat of the victim's car to better observe the shooting route.

Jimmy confirmed the route, waved them aside, then inspected the scene before activating Heart Eye Observation. Just as expected, he found a problem—a small compartment a few meters away on the side of a sewer, not big, just a width of over ten centimeters.

Jimmy walked around to the sewer above, the cover obviously had been opened before. Interesting, he wasn't sure what the compartment was earlier, but now it seemed to be a clearly hidden treasure.

After another round, Jimmy confirmed there were no similar places elsewhere, the ground appeared clean too. After NYPD's inspection, someone must've cleaned the ground. He went directly to the sewer entrance, put on gloves, squatted down, and pulled up the cover.

Mark and Julia, watching Jimmy circle twice and then head straight for the sewer, were surprised and gathered around, "Did you find anything?"

Jimmy placed the cover while saying: "There's nowhere else nearby to dispose of things. If they discarded something on site, this place is highly likely."

Looking at the situation in the sewer, Jimmy decided to leave it be, not going down.

Jimmy dusted off his hands, placed the cover back, "Let's get someone over in protective gear and oxygen bottles, it's not suitable for us to go down and search directly."

Removing the gloves, Jimmy called the forensics department, asking them to send an unlucky squad, specifically mentioning inspecting the sewer and bring necessary gear.

Jimmy: "Okay, you guys go grab some drinks and come back, we're going to be here for a while, too many people around, better wait here to avoid them destroying the scene."

Mark nodded and left with Julia, while Jimmy stayed behind, choosing to sit back in the car.

The forensics team arrived a bit late, but thankfully it wasn't dark yet. A member, suited up, went down, and soon reports came through the walkie-talkie about a discovery in the sewer.

After collecting everything into sealed bags, the forensic personnel came up with them, "Fuck! Next time find someone else for this, I'm not going down again."

Jimmy smiled and said: "Thanks for the hard work, what did you find?"

Several bags placed on the ground, neatly lined up, "A flip phone, separate battery, a key, a passport and driver's license, some paper money, and a sealed box. These items were already stored in the box."

The forensics personnel spoke while removing the protective gear, Jimmy squatted to look without touching: "OK, take them back for examination, focus on extracting fingerprints. Nothing else below?"

Forensics personnel: "Nothing else, these were found in a hidden compartment on the sewer wall, roughly checked overall down the sewer, no anomalies."

Jimmy: "Thanks for the hard work, okay, everyone can wrap up and return."

Jimmy waved his hand, thanked everyone, then the group split and got into their cars, forming a convoy and setting off. Jimmy at the front was too lazy to fuss and directly activated the police lights and sirens, with two cars behind him accelerating through the traffic.

A hidden police light-equipped Suburban led the way, they returned to the FBI office smoothly, and in the underground parking, Jimmy got out after Julia did, saying: "Julia, keep an eye on the forensics side, as soon as they finish checking the fingerprints bring the evidence back, we need to verify passport information and check the contents of that phone."

Julia nodded: "I understand."

Checking the phone's contents was a technical task, so it was more suitable for Julia. Mark was out, his expertise with electronic devices wasn't much better than Jimmy's.

This was a major case, and now Jimmy and the team were diving into work. The passport found here was a significant clue, even though they hadn't seen the contents yet. Once they get the passport tomorrow, they can determine what big fish they're after.
