North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 594: Part-Time Psychologist

Even though Jimmy had wrapped up the case on his end, it still needed to be reported to the Federal Prosecutor's Office for evaluation. Depending on the circumstances of the case, they would decide whether further investigation or prosecution was necessary. So, Jimmy could only say that his part was done, but procedurally, the case was still ongoing.

An assistant prosecutor from the Federal Prosecutor's Office came and reviewed all the evidence, also recalling Elliot for questioning. Eventually, due to sufficient evidence, the case was concluded without indicting Jimmy for excessive use of force.

This wasn't the first time. For the cases Jimmy handled, quite a few were set aside by the Federal Prosecutor's Office. Most had casualties, but the majority were handled well, with complete evidence chains. Therefore, Jimmy had never been prosecuted by the Federal Prosecutor's Office before, although it did attract internal FBI OPR investigations.

This time, the OPR did not intervene; they merely checked the report and acknowledged it, considering the matter closed.

Of course, the smooth handling of the matter definitely involved some efforts from certain people. Ruiz and Alex Green must have arranged some things; otherwise, there were so many cases with the Federal Prosecutor's Office that Jimmy's case wouldn't have been investigated so quickly.

Peter's time to leave Manhattan had come, and Ruiz successfully got promoted to ASAC Assistant Special Agent in Charge, smoothly taking over the position. So, there was no issue with him stepping in to help Jimmy advance the investigation.

During the investigation, Jimmy's support personnel were also in place, with two young agents joining his Homicide Team.

Julia Lee, a third-generation Chinese American, 27 years old, 160cm tall, of excellent appearance. Her performance at the Quantico Academy was remarkable, described as having outstanding observation and logical reasoning abilities, adept at spotting subtle clues.

Before joining the FBI, Julia worked as a cybersecurity expert at a tech company, her computer skills giving her a unique advantage in digital forensics. In fact, if not for her personal wishes, the Quantico Academy even hoped to train her as an intelligence officer.

Mark Anderson, Caucasian, 28 years old, 190cm tall, tall and robust. Before joining the FBI, he served in the military and possesses excellent tactical and combat skills, very skilled in operations and apprehensions.

The recruits for Jimmy were indeed in high demand, and Ruiz arranging such two outstanding new agents for Jimmy was certainly no small feat, especially Julia Lee, as getting an agent fit for intelligence roles was quite rare, plus she was also a beauty.

In the Homicide Team office, Jimmy had never led a team before, nor had he served as an FTO at the police station to train new officers, so he was somewhat lacking in experience. However, he still remembered how Peter, Ruiz, and Chris guided him back then, so piles of documents were a must.

Taking advantage of currently being in the final procedures of a kidnapping case, Jimmy prepared some past case files for the newbies so they could take a good look. If they had any questions, they could ask directly, as it was just the three of them in the office, sparing any awkwardness.

Merely reading the files wasn't totally clear, especially since many investigation processes were written briefly, so recreating the entire process from case files required some imagination.

While discussing the kidnapping case from two days ago, Jimmy's phone rang. He glanced at it, gave Julia and Mark a signal, and took the call as he left the office.

Jimmy: "Kevin, what's up?"

Kevin: "Jimmy, are you free tonight?"

Jimmy: "Yes, I currently have no plans, what's up?"

Kevin: "There's a small issue with Alex's side. Elliot might have some aftereffects from being kidnapped. He's been scared to go out lately and even gets startled awake at night. Seeing a psychologist hasn't helped much."

Jimmy paused for a moment. When he brought Elliot back, he didn't seem to have any mental issues, "Is he overly frightened?"

Kevin: "Yes, his current symptoms seem like that. The psychologist suggested that because you saved him, talking to you might help."

Jimmy thought for a moment and looked around: "Do you think... it's necessary?"

Kevin: "It depends on what you think; after all, he's just a kid."

Jimmy was a bit speechless: "I've never done anything like this before. Comforting others... it's a bit challenging for me."

Kevin: "You might as well try."

Jimmy: "Alright, then set a time with him."

After hanging up, Jimmy returned to the office, telling them he'd step out for a smoke, grabbed his suit, and left the office again.

Jimmy couldn't help but sneak off for a smoke downstairs since he agreed to check on Elliot, mainly because Elliot was still a kid who went through such an ordeal. He had to give it a shot to see if he could help, after all, they had some connection, not just a complete stranger.

But he really had never comforted anyone before. Although he handled many cases, and of various types, the vast majority ended once the case was dealt with. This was indeed his first time encountering someone with psychological issues needing his comfort, particularly since there were basically no minors involved in his previous cases.

Lighting a cigarette, Jimmy pondered for a while and decided to consult a professional.

Doctor Mary did not refuse Jimmy's consultation, although it was best to chat face-to-face. Jimmy checked the time — it was feasible. He informed Julia and Mark, suggesting they continue reviewing the case, before driving to Doctor Mary's office.
