RISE OF THE MARTIAL GOD

Chapter 108: A RUTHLESS REQUEST

Brent walked up to Leo who was standing on the roof of his newly established tech company, sipping red wine. He had not been back in days, probably not wanting to be anywhere near the dragon clan. Brent, who had an urgent need for him, had to find him himself.

"You came all the way here to find me, wasting jet fuel. What would have gone so wrong that it couldn't be discussed over the phone?" Leo asked, leisurely sipping his wine.

"The elders council has a mission for you."

"I'm not interested. I left the dragon clan to unwind. Why are you guys already rushing to me? You should take up the mission, Yang Yang can handle it too, at worst you guys can contact Jian Yue. He's a greedy one with vampire fangs, charging sky high for each mission and making sure the dragon clan returns the favor, but you can't deny the fact that he always gets the job done." Leo added, not looking at Brent even once.

"Are you joking? No one else but you can do it. Don't get me started on Jian Yue, he's from the dragon clan, and was among the five people given the highest amount of stocks after the new ranking list five years ago. But he always behaves like an executioner, expecting payment and first dibs. The last time he accepted an assassination mission from the dragon clan, he swapped it with a thousand years old purple jade fruit that no one had touched for years due to how precious it was. What do you think he will charge for a mission of this level when he took such an unreasonable amount just to assassinate an SS rank master?" Brent replied in exasperation.

"I see. So you guys are coming for the idiot that always does it for free, is that it? That's the dragon clan's fault. If they didn't act so unreasonably and selfishly, making all the talented members enemies of each other, things wouldn't have turned out like this. Kaiser was the only person that wasn't given a dime after the new ranking list, despite being number one. But look at him today, he's probably as rich as the entire dragon clan combined. If I didn't help take care of his brother, it would have been even worse for you guys with how intelligent and talented he was, developing multiple drugs. If everyone was treated the same, there would be no need for selfishness."

"Leo, don't joke. How is it possible to treat everyone equally? There's always a variation of interest, and multiple people want the same thing. Of course, such things are bound to happen. Besides, we are the ones gaining the most from the dragon clan. We didn't lose anything. We currently have the highest standing because two members of our branch entered the top seven of the ranking list, which has never happened before, in addition to hard work from all of us. We're almost there. This is not the time to throw tantrums or give up. Help your brother again, I'm almost there." Brent whispered, going to touch his shoulders.

"Are you the one that needs my help? Or is it the dragon clan?" Leo asked, finally turning around.

"The dragon clan was the one that gave out the mission. But when you find it, you will pass it to me first. I will check it out and decide whether to give them the original copy or modify it based on the efficacy."

Leo frowned and nodded.

"It seems that whatever it is you guys want really holds a lot of weight. I guess it's not an assassination nor do you need me to hack someone's database. Let me guess, you want me to steal something. What is it?"

Brent sighed and stood up, going to pour some wine for himself. Leo wouldn't like what he was about to say, but it had to be said nonetheless.

"Rona showed signs of an insane increase in strength within a very short while, beating up multiple people."

"I already heard about it." Leo replied nonchalantly, reaching for the wine bottle to refill his glass.

"The elders council suspects that they're in possession of a drug or secret art that insanely boosts strength, especially since their mom had a background in such things. Recall that no one knows where she came from, yet, her multiple patents and secret arts helped the patriarch beat out the rest in a very short while. She seemed to have gotten old and incompetent after being poisoned, and her cultivation began to decline. But nothing happened to her sharp brain. What if she had prepared those things for her children in advance? If she has items that can insanely increase strength within a short period of time, it will be truly troublesome."

Leo chuckled coldly and chugged down his wine. He began to laugh, his shoulders shaking heavily.

"You guys have finally lost it. You actually believed such nonsense. Their strength is genetic. If she's in possession of some magical item that can turn one into a monstrous genius, how do you explain Anthony? Their gifts are hereditary, he came back without enough cultivation, but managed to tame the twin dragon daggers. What does it mean? It means he had infinite potential which had not been tapped since there was no one to guide his cultivation. As for Kaiser, from the moment he was born, he was strange. Thunder raged for three days, covering the dragon clan in darkness. He's one of those people born with heaven's gift, people that heaven is partial to. As for Rona, she has never been weak. Despite being lazy and unwilling to work hard, she made it to the ranking list. Albeit at the third batch. The insane increase is because she began to train hard. Pain and a desire for vengeance are the greatest catalyst for success. Is it so hard to use common sense?"

Leo poured another drink and continued

"Let's say your hypothesis is true, why didn't they give her the secret art? Why wait till now?"

"Everyone knew how close she was to you. She has been the legendary Leo's slippers since she was a toddler. Will they have given her such a precious item when there's a chance she would share it with others? It only makes sense that they gave it to her after she declared the dragon clan her enemy. Who will she share it with? According to those around, her aura was like Kaiser's, just diluted a thousand times, a little fraction of it. But if it's diluted at this point, it will keep building up till another monster like Kaiser who can't be controlled is born. We can't have another Kaiser in the dragon clan. Or at least, they shouldn't have the monopoly. Others should also have access to it to even out the stakes. Even if others don't, our branch should. You and I." Brent said, his voice persuasive as he looked at him.

'How shameless! As expected, the dragon clan has no bottom line. If it were them, would they want to share something so precious with others?' Leo thought, swirling around his glass.

"So what do they want me to do?" Leo asked, still watching the wine in the glass as if it was something fascinating.

"Find out what it is. What exactly do they use to increase their strength in such an insane way? Not just finding it, bring it back alongside its formula if possible. Once you're done, kill Rona."

The moment the last word left Brent's mouth, the glass in Leo's hand shattered, spraying red wine and shards of glass all over the place.
