Gazing at the broken sword that emitted a faint radiance, the Hero and the Depraved Hero halted their steps.
Then, the Depraved Hero stepped forward first, turning to look at the Hero with a slight raise of her brow.
"Shall I do it, is that okay?"
The Hero nodded in acknowledgment: "…Yes, I'll leave it to you."
She naturally understood the implication of the words her other self spoke,
whether it was the Evil-breaking Church or the Dusk Fairy, they probably both wished for her to use a "legitimate manner" to cleanse the rust from this broken sword and restore its sanctity.
But her dark side was unlikely to be so gentle.
If the Hero believed herself to be good, or aspired to be a good person, then her other self must surely be evil.
Yet just as people committed brutal acts in the name of righteousness, and the Holy Artifacts for Evil-breaking were used to slaughter innocents, there was also a truth of achieving peace through chaotic means.
In humankind's values, the lines between right and wrong, good and evil, are sometimes far more blurred than imagined.
For this reason, the Hero decided to accept the reversed self after understanding what her other self was like.
"What kind of evil should we be breaking, maybe you should tell it," the Hero said softly.
"As you say."
The Depraved Hero grinned, turned around, and without any hesitation, reached out to grip the broken sword.

♛: Resist me
Although she agreed to it, seeing her other self grip the broken sword without hesitation, the Hero instinctively held her breath.
She wasn't worried about whether the derusting would succeed, she could faintly perceive that the prayer she once offered when she had defeated the Great Demon had an extraordinary influence on this broken sword.
Although in that past fanatical Holy War, the Evil-breaking Sword also slew many powerful Evil Demons, the truly formidable foes of the Holy War were vanquished by the Divine Knowledge Saintess. And between those Evil Demons and the true Great Demon, there was an irreparable gap in status and power.
The forging of equipment is about quality, not quantity; the importance of a thousand pieces of wrought iron is far less than that of a small piece of mithril.
Having participated in the design of the Wind Moon Night at the Arcane Workshop on the border, the Hero naturally understood this.
While it is very important to persistently offer faith in the ritual site of the Great Cathedral, only prayer that truly transcends the mundane can give rise to a qualitative transformation and ascension of the Holy Artifact.
Merely removing the rust, the Hero was actually 100% confident of success, so she was more concerned about what means her other self would employ.
Should the broken sword be transformed into a cruel instrument of destruction, she genuinely wouldn't know how to face the Evil-breaking Bishop.
"…I can only trust her."
And before her, the Depraved Hero who decisively gripped the broken sword, her expression had already turned serious.
The corners of her mouth curved into a maddened arc, sharp fangs bared, and her pupils ignited with a venomous blaze of violence and hatred, as if ready to incinerate the world.
"Ah—what a nostalgic feeling, playing house with my true self for too long, I almost forgot."
Her existence was originally born to guide the Hero to Break the Void.
"To trample into the mud idiots like you who cling to ideals and goodness, to watch them twist into the corrupt posture they once despised in the throes of painful struggle… that's what I'm supposed to do!"
The Depraved Hero laughed 'Jie jie jie', her tawny skin shrouded in shadow under the grey-red light, making her expression exceedingly fearsome.
The Hero turned her head aside, unwilling to witness the impending tragedy.
"I heard you were used for foolish acts by those who called themselves just, ending up in your current state.
"—So now, I, this evil, will use you for evil deeds."
In the chilling laughter of the red-eyed girl, the pillar of light began to fluctuate violently, the phantom of the broken sword blooming with dawn-like glimmering light, making the Depraved Hero's smile even more menacing.
"Good, by all means resist me," she leaned closer to the broken sword, her voice dripping with contempt, "you worthless scrap metal."

"Ouch!"
"…What are you doing?"
Seeing her other self shaking off the broken sword as if electrocuted after brandishing a super-tier villain's smile, the Hero, who was initially unable to bear watching, tilted her head in exasperation.
"It's, it's just a bit hot!"
The Depraved Hero grimaced, a little embarrassed and angry.
"I mean, I might be immune to your Dawn Break, but I'm not immune to this thing's Power of Evil-breaking."
"Isn't that a given… we're the same person." Compassion flickered in the Hero's eyes.
"But it isn't us."
"…True."
After several seconds of silence, the Depraved Hero reached for the broken sword again.
During just that brief contact before, some of the rust on the broken sword had unknowingly disappeared.
"—Continue!"
