"Xu Mo. Xu Mo..." Bai Yuntian continued calling out his name, but Xu Mo felt he was just lost in thought, so he didn't interrupt Young Master Bai.
"We are quite similar."
"No—this humble—" Xu Mo was about to deny it, as he didn't like the sudden interest this Villain was showing toward him. But before he could finish, a sudden feeling of dread washed over him. His surroundings suddenly felt restricted.
"What do you think about becoming friends with me?" Bai Yuntian's words this time caught not only Xu Mo off guard but also the seniors and even the hidden protector of Bai Yuntian.
The butler decided to intervene, even at the cost of his life. "Young Master, please think a little more—"
Bai Yuntian raised his palm—not toward the butler, but behind him, at the protector who was suffocating Xu Mo through spiritual pressure. Xu Mo's face had turned red, veins becoming visible.
"Stop it."
Bai Yuntian's command immediately caused the person hidden in the shadows to halt whatever he was doing to Xu Mo.
Xu Mo didn't dare show that he wasn't affected much, since his physique was already comparable to a Nascent Soul Realm expert—albeit one who had just formed his Nascent Soul—thanks to the Ninth Grade Core he had formed. Still, the person in the shadows was unaware of his Core's grade, since, from what Xu Mo had learned from his ancestor, such things couldn't be peeked at through the spiritual sense of even a powerful cultivator.
Though Xu Mo hadn't experienced much in life—having been a simple mortal before without any connection to these kinds of people—he couldn't help but sweat in fear that he might lose his life here and now.
"Y-Young Master, this shallow cultivator doesn't deserve such an honor," Xu Mo said, adopting a servile and flattering tone.
"Heh—You think too highly of yourself. By friendship, I just mean that you and I share similar personalities. It just felt good to meet someone in this barren land who thinks almost like me." Bai Yuntian stretched and stood up, no longer entertaining Xu Mo.
Xu Mo could only frown, unsure of his current status. At times like these, he really missed the system—but the system had already unbound itself from him.
Bai Yuntian walked out with a group of guards and servants following closely, leaving Xu Mo alone in the 'interrogation' chamber.
"Excuse me, can I leave now?" Xu Mo asked the 'ghosts' in the room where he had been interrogated, only to end up being forcibly made some sort of "friend" to the Young Master of the Heavenly Sky Clan.

The door through which he had been brought in creaked open, and Xu Mo lightly bowed in all four directions, afraid he might offend some senior still hidden within the room—even though he was inwardly bluffing that he should be comparable to a Nascent Soul Realm expert. In truth, he was only a Golden Core Realm cultivator belonging to a local sect.
Though his status was that of the True Successor of said sect, what of it? Could they even think of going against an Immortal Clan?
Xu Mo re-entered the City of Thousand Clans after changing into the robes of his sect's True Successor. The only clothing he'd brought earlier was drenched in sweat. For the first time, he was going to do something he normally wouldn't—but if war had been declared upon him, then he could only brace himself and ensure he didn't suffer too much.
What he meant was that now, he was in the Villain Camp. Not that he had been in any good situation before—but with great difficulty, he had achieved freedom from all the villains and protagonists. Yet now, he was back in this mess.
He wanted to know what type of Female Protagonist it was this time—to decide whether to start preparing or just pack his luggage and lay low for a few years.
Xu Mo hadn't been so well-informed before, but after having the system, he came to understand many things in detail—including the power of 'Systems.' Such things basically went against the very Dao and immortality everyone pursued.
He was seen as an enemy by many protagonists, their masters, and their powerful backings. So, he really wanted to test the waters first.
"I am the True Successor of the Hidden Dragon Sect. I want to discuss something with your Clan Head," Xu Mo said, stopping at the entrance of the clan gate belonging to the girl—the female protagonist—who would soon defy her fate and take down the Immortal Clan.
However, judging by the way Bai Yuntian behaved, Xu Mo doubted he would easily fall into the traps of the usual foolish protagonists.
"Wait," the guard said as he rushed inside. The other guards and bystanders didn't react much, as the Young Master of the Heavenly Sky Clan—an Immortal Clan—had already met someone of extremely high status, causing them to overlook Xu Mo's presence.
"Esteemed guest, please follow me. The Clan Head has agreed to meet you," the guard said respectfully as he took the lead, guiding Xu Mo deeper into the clan of the Female Protagonist.
Soon, news of Xu Mo—someone belonging to the Hidden Dragon Sect—spread far and wide. Many people who had started forming their own ideas immediately dropped their plans for the time being, choosing to wait and see how things would develop.
Xu Mo was asked to wait inside a hall that looked decent enough. Obviously, it couldn't compare to the Sect Master's Hall in his sect. A sect's wealth was vastly different from what a clan within a city—even one of cultivators—could earn in a year.
A few minutes later, the Clan Head arrived—the same man whose head had been stepped on by the Young Master of the Heavenly Sky Clan. However, his expression now was no longer as hopeless as before.
Even though the Clan Head was merely a Peak Foundation Building Realm cultivator, Xu Mo still respectfully stood from his seat.
"Esteemed guest, please sit down. I'm not the type to give much importance to manners and rules," the Clan Head said, a hint of surprise in his tone. He was shocked to find that he couldn't see through this lad's cultivation realm. Clearly, Xu Mo was almost the same age as his daughter.
"I would like to meet your daughter. I was there when the Young Master of the Immortal Clan came to break off his engagement. Let me reintroduce myself—I am the True Successor of the Hidden Dragon Sect," Xu Mo stated once more.
"Esteemed guest, my daughter has just gone through a great shock in her life. The engagement she had since childhood was broken off. But my daughter is not a burden to me. I am still healthy enough to give her the life she deserves," the Clan Head said, obviously misunderstanding Xu Mo's intentions.
There was no doubt Xu Mo was handsome, and after breaking through the Golden Core Realm and forming a Ninth Grade Core, his looks and charm rivaled those of the Successors of top-ranked sects from other domains.
'Big shock?!' Xu Mo's mouth twitched inwardly, though he quickly realized that his phrasing had been wrong from the start, which made it sound as if he were asking for her hand in marriage.
