Deep in the Living

Chapter 737: Darkness Within the Dungeon

An empty, dilapidated bar, with a fluorescent light full of fly corpses, only able to emit a withering white glow.

The young man lying on the bar counter exerted all his strength to lift his head, as if his skull was filled with cement, unbearably heavy.

The blurry vision took a long time to finally focus, gradually seeing everything in front of him clearly.

Feeling the heartbeat, the movement of his spine, and the tremor of his pituitary gland, Luo Di slowly returned to normal, fully entering this real dreamscape constructed from his memories.

Inside the bar counter.

Bald head, black shirt, the glasses-wearing Dormo was looking at him.

"Luo Di, your state is really poor... Generally speaking, the 'Dream Transition Zone' can reflect a person's mental state, but here it appears desolate and barren.

You seem to have not rested well recently, or there's some kind of interference in your thoughts."

Luo Di shook his head, observing his surroundings, "Speaking of sleep, it was just last night that I didn't rest well~ Since I returned from Jiang Mansion, my self-promotion state has been quite good.

It might be because I peeked into Mr. Jiang's memories of exploring the dungeon, and since last night, I've been affected by noise, unconsciously heading to the dungeon.

This influence is completely rooted in my brain, not even Mr. Question Mark can remove it.

So I'm pondering a question, if Dormo, by recreating the dream, follows me to relive this memory, you might also be affected by the noise.

As it stands, this influence is irreversible, are you sure you want to come?"

Dormo nodded, "Hmm... I've read Teacher Guo's notes, he mentioned conjectures about the deepest part of the dungeon, the noise should be an inherent phenomenon within the dungeon.

Anyone venturing to the deepest part of the dungeon, aiming to ascend to godhood, inevitably endures the impact of this noise.

Experiencing it in advance might not be a bad thing, since I'll eventually walk this path.

Moreover, it's something only the two of us can do.

Once you've mostly recovered, let's set out."

"Is the dream already created?"

"When you drank that specially made beverage, it represented you granting memory permissions, and the dream began to form... Just outside the bar is where we're headed."

"Alright~ I'll check my state a bit."

Luo Di stood up, exhaling the yin energy, simultaneously attempting to wield his hand knife, and then reaching to touch the Black Spine at his neck, checking the relic worn on his chest.

Everything confirmed, he continued to ask:

"Is there anything else to note?"

"Next, all the 'nodes' require you to open or close them, like opening doors, choosing at crossroads, or finding mechanisms in certain rooms.

After all, you are the main carrier of this memory, the foundation of this dream.

What I can do is merely support this dream, providing some less important assistance.

If we encounter dangers we can't combat, I will attempt to interrupt the dream, and if interference prevents interruption, Teacher Guo outside will notice it.

Lastly,

The key to our dreaming this time is to delve into the blurry memory fragments.

So we have to move a bit slower, conduct detailed investigations in clearer parts of the dream, as the more clues and details we get, the stronger our sense of immersion will be, and the more likely we are to excavate deeper memory fragments."

"Got it, let's go."

It was Luo Di's first time collaborating in such a way with Dormo.

Feeling such a realistic dream personally brought a bit of astonishment.

Ding!

He pushed open the bar door, accompanied by the welcome bell's ring.

Outside, however, was blocked by a severely weathered stone wall, with a circular hole in the center of the wall, just enough to allow a person to crawl through.

However, the darkness imbued within the hole made Luo Di very uncomfortable, unlike typical darkness, as a living being, he instinctively resisted it.

Left arm inserted, summoning lightning sparks.

Yet the circular hole that should have been illuminated remained pitch-black, as if ordinary light would drown within it.

Dormo also found a lighter from behind the bar, threw it in, and it disappeared instantly.

Since conventional lighting was ineffective, Luo Di tried another method, firmly not wanting to crawl through such a narrow and cramped hole, he attempted to directly reach the other side of the hole.

After all, he now possessed a space-creating ability.

He placed his left hand on the wall, palm reflecting a hole-like structure.

A kind of spatial connection had been completed; Luo Di could sense the other side of the circular tunnel, able to steadily transport himself over.

"Dormo, place your hand on my shoulder. We'll go directly to the other side and figure out the light source problem then."

"Alright."

Hand on shoulder,

The two were simultaneously swept into the tunnel in the palm of Luo Di's hand.

Buzz...

After a rather unstable transport, they successfully reached the opposite side of the circular hole, the soles of their shoes firmly touching the ground.

But the issue of the light source remained unsolved, with everything in front of them pitch black.

This darkness not only obstructed vision but also blocked other senses, including the tongue Luo Di thought could work; all environmental tastes were bitter, even making his tongue shake uncomfortably.

Si...

The special noise assaulted along with this darkness.

Since they were already in the dungeon, the noise no longer served as a guide, but directly led to a more terrifying result.

Luo Di began unconsciously scratching his hair, while feeling like his entire skin was coming to life, something seemed to be breaking out from under his skin.

Essentially, Luo Di, as a human, seemed to be gradually deconstructing and eroding under the influence of this noise.

He tasted a danger he had never encountered before.

In an instant, the desire to "survive" was frantically stimulated, and he instinctively wanted to return to the bar, but found that the round tunnel was gone, with nothing on the wall.

Connection severed, unable to transmit.

His body began moving rapidly in the darkness, colliding into things, the left hand grasping for something.

Simultaneously, the relic worn on his chest started secreting mist, aiding in finding survival fears in this extreme darkness.

In a critical moment,

The mist caught something and swiftly brought it back, Luo Di's left hand grasping it and releasing heat.

Something caught fire.

The burning firelight banished the darkness, the noise by his ears vanished. Luo Di's rapid, almost suffocating breathing pace slowly eased.

He sniffed the peculiar scent of the burning torch, softly speaking:

"Phew... This torch is very special, it's currently the only known way to dispel darkness, crucial for our dungeon exploration.

This wasn't recorded in the diary, so it's quite a find.

The torch itself isn't particularly special, but the surface material burning is very unique.

I've been to Jiang Mansion's Corpse Refining Shop, smelled plenty of wax oils, this should be a kind of biological oil, only this oil has a somewhat discordant scent.

The burning duration should be limited, we must find more similar oils to maintain illumination."

After drawing this conclusion, Luo Di moved the torch to find Dormo, discovering him seated on a chair.

The scene before him startled Luo Di.

A crack had appeared on Dormo's bald head, within it were countless eyeballs, squeezing together and probing at Luo Di outside.

With the arrival of the torch's light, those eyeballs all hid away, the head crack gradually disappearing.

Dormo also followed with heavy panting, calming down after a while.

"So this is noise?"

I just felt like my whole body was being invaded by foreign objects, my essence as a monster was eroding, nearly forcing a dream interruption.

No wonder, Luo Di, you found a light source under such conditions."

"Dormo, are you still okay?"

"Yes... we'd better act fast, this torch might not last long."

"Hmm."

The two, taking advantage of the light, glanced around, finding themselves seemingly in a lounge.

Judging by the coarse stone making up the walls, style of the chairs and wooden tables, it was certainly not modern, belonging to at least a hundred or a thousand years of history.

The torch was found in a wooden box in the corner.

Just as they were about to take action,

Gurgle~ Luo Di's stomach growled, a strong hunger suddenly surged over, despite having eaten at Mr. Question Mark's this morning, now feeling extremely hungry.

As he was about to ask Dormo if he felt the same,

In his vision, Dormo unexpectedly appeared "beautiful,"

Both his features and body curves seemed impeccable to Luo Di, even the bald head was equally captivating, even causing his crotch to tremble slightly.

An unusual impulse permeated within his brain, urging Luo Di to move closer...
