Hunter: Growing Stronger with the Light of the Moon!

Chapter 69: The Last-ditch Counterattack Before Death!

Under the power of the one-eyed thunder, the other wraiths were as fragile as paper. In contrast, the ghost spirit's soul was incredibly tough.

Even with its body already battered and broken, with severed limbs and feet, it still charged at the one-eyed monster like a mad dog, biting viciously!

This gave Ed the chance to launch a close-range attack, and soon he found himself next to the one-eyed monster.

Deep down, Ed knew: "There's only one opportunity to strike. After this, I must either kill the one-eyed monster or severely injure him to the point where he loses his ability to fight."

"Otherwise, whether I succeed or fail, there won't be another chance to strike…"

In that moment, Ed didn't care about the sword techniques in his mind; he focused solely on executing the most powerful move.

It was a move that involved gripping the sword with both hands, leaping high into the air, and then bringing the blade down from above, using all his body's strength and the momentum of the fall to strike the enemy.

Even if he was holding a club instead of a sword, the strike would still be quite deadly.

And Ed was holding a steel sword, coated with sword oil.

Swish!!

He successfully leaped into the air, and the one-eyed monster was still occupied with dealing with the ghost spirit, unable to move.

It seemed like Ed would land a successful hit, but in the instant his sword came down, the one-eyed monster suddenly looked up sharply!

"Fuck! This damned beast is driving me crazy!" he cursed, darkly, and without missing a beat, he slapped his palm hard against the chest of the ghost spirit.

With a loud boom, the ghost spirit's body trembled violently, and in the next moment, it disintegrated into smoke and scattered away!

At the same time, the one-eyed monster's other hand somehow managed to free itself and swung his sword to block Ed's downward strike.

Clang!

The sound of clashing swords echoed, and Ed's body was sent flying backward by the impact.

After falling for several meters, he barely managed to regain his balance.

"How could this happen?"

His full-powered strike didn't leave a single mark on the one-eyed monster, and instead, Ed found his arm numb from the shock.

Moreover, all the spirits that had been covering for him were now all gone, eliminated by the one-eyed monster!

The one-eyed monster standing before him was far more powerful than he had ever imagined!

"Goddamn it! Boy, what other trump cards do you have left? Huh?"

The one-eyed monster's gaze turned cold, and his eyes were filled with murderous intent mixed with mockery.

The black bell no longer had any effect. Finally, there was nothing left to stop him from killing Ed. He had not expected the high-level spiritual treasure to be so powerful.

Now, his body had several dozen wounds, all from the black bell. A dignified silver-tier Hunter had been reduced to such a sorry state when fighting against a mere black-tier opponent.

It was, indeed, somewhat embarrassing.

At the same time, after dealing with so many attacks, and having used the Spirit Thunder Seal and the Palm Strike Seal, the one-eyed monster's energy had been significantly drained, to the point where he was beginning to pant slightly!

"If this matter gets back to the association, I wonder how many people will laugh at me."

"I must end this battle immediately. Ed, although I'll soon kill you with my sword, at least for you, it will be an honor!"

Ed sheathed the black bell, gripping his sword tightly with both hands, facing the one-eyed monster with an unyielding stance:

"I also have a sword. How can you be so sure that the one who will be slain isn't you?"

Though Ed spoke with defiance, he was actually just stalling for time, trying to give his numbed wrist some time to recover.

But the one-eyed monster didn't seem to buy it: "I know. I've seen it, you have excellent swordsmanship, don't you? But I'll quickly make you realize that under the disparity in raw strength, those skills are useless."

With that declaration, the one-eyed monster's foot slammed the ground, and he charged forward, sword in hand.

From Ed's perspective, the one-eyed monster looked like a giant. Both of them wielded swords, but the battle wasn't about swordplay at all. Instead, their bodies collided with a force that sent shockwaves through the air.

Boom!

With a heavy sound, Ed was sent flying by a single sword strike. He barely managed to regain his footing, but the one-eyed monster was already on him again, sword raised to strike.

Ed crossed his sword in front of him, and another loud clang resounded!

Boom!

Once again, Ed's body flew backward like a ragdoll, tumbling five or six meters, his organs shaking violently as though they might become dislodged.

"Boy, can you see the difference in strength now?!" the one-eyed monster sneered, his bloodthirsty aura completely surrounding Ed.

"Even after using all the power I have, I still can't defeat him?" Ed was crouched on the ground, unable to rise.

He panted heavily, his mind fuzzy and disoriented, his body nearly at its breaking point.

He might pass out soon.

The one-eyed monster charged again, and Ed realized that it was more likely he would be killed before he even lost consciousness.

"Maybe the one-eyed monster is right. I can't defeat him with swordplay. I need to find another way..."

"Boy! Can you still talk now?" The one-eyed monster was already at his side, bringing his sword down once more.

Crack! Ed heard the sound of something breaking, and felt his sword grow lighter. The steel sword he had been using to block the strikes had shattered into countless pieces that flew in all directions.

The sword was gone.

"You were just saying that you were going to kill me with your sword, right? Huh? Is that all your swordsmanship amounts to?"

With a mocking grin, the one-eyed monster kicked Ed viciously.

The exhausted body could no longer resist, and Ed was once again kicked away. Blood poured from his mouth, and most importantly, he no longer had the strength to get up.

"Alright, it's time to send you to hell," the one-eyed monster declared as he swung his sword down, aiming for Ed's neck.

"Lord Ed!" Thomas, watching from behind, covered his mouth. By this point, his nerves were stretched to the limit, and his heart had fallen to the depths of despair!

Once Ed was dead, Thomas knew he wouldn't escape either. Gritting his teeth, he immediately made a decision and turned around.

Run!

"Lord Ed, it's not that I don't want to save you, but I'm just too weak. I'll find a way to get your belongings to your family and friends."

"Of course, that is, if I can survive and leave here!"

Thomas felt utterly despondent. He didn't even know why they were fighting; he vaguely guessed it might have something to do with Brown and Brian.

As he ran, tears streamed down his face: "Lord Ed, after all, you were my savior."

"You should have been like me... We, these weak individual Hunters, can't compete with powerful organizations like the association. And now, because of this, you're going to lose your life!"

Crying, Thomas didn't even dare look back, fearing Ed had already been slain and that the one-eyed monster was now chasing him.

A silver-tier Hunter could easily catch him, probably faster than drinking a glass of water. Thomas ran with all his might, but just then, a deafening explosion echoed from behind his head!

Boom! Boom! Boom!!!

Thomas was shaken to his core. He had already run over a hundred meters, but the sound was still as loud as ever. Turning around, he saw the vast night sky covered by a powerful silver glow.

Countless small, unknown lights filled the air, lingering long after the explosion!

"What… what just happened?!" Thomas widened his eyes.

In front of Ed, the one-eyed monster's steel sword was less than a centimeter from his neck.

Facing an ultimate dead-end, with no sword left, the black-tier Hunter was finally without resistance. The one-eyed monster relaxed his guard, but he didn't anticipate that Ed still had a hidden card.

Blood continued to pour down from the one-eyed monster's sword. He staggered backward, falling, his body quickly growing cold.

When Thomas approached, the scene before him was so shocking that his eyes nearly popped out.

"My God!"

The one-eyed monster's face was completely shredded; all the flesh was gone, and his bones were exposed to the air. At the base of his neck, only a few tendons remained, nearly severed completely.

What was most horrifying was his lower body. The one-eyed monster's abdominal armor had been destroyed, and there was a massive blood hole in his stomach, completely puncturing his body.

All the organs inside him had disappeared! His body was scattered with various magical potions, scrolls, and communication stones, all spilling onto the ground!

"Lord Ed, how did you do it..." Thomas whispered in disbelief.

Ed, lying on the ground, was utterly powerless and had no strength or interest to answer.

Instinctively, Thomas lowered his gaze, and only then did he realize, to his shock, that Ed was also severely injured.

There was a wound on his stomach, and his intestines had spilled out!

"My God! Lord Ed, hang in there! I'll help you treat the wound!" Thomas immediately dropped to his knees, frantically pulling out all the emergency supplies he had and rushing to bandage Ed's wounds.

Ed coughed up blood, but he didn't feel any pain. He struggled to turn his eyes toward the wreckage of the one-eyed monster lying nearby.

A smile spread across his face, and the corners of his mouth lifted.

A Medium Quality Silver Rank Hunter was brutally killed by him with the strength of a Low-Quality Silver Rank Hunter!

Not even the life-saving trump cards hidden on his body had been able to be used in time. Ed could still remember the intense emotions in the one-eyed monster's wide, glaring eyes just before his death.

Thinking about this made Ed feel incredibly exhilarated. The disappearance of all the Moonstone marks on his finger had been worth it!

"Over twenty marks... That one-eyed bastard, I really blew him to bits!"

"I didn't expect the power to be this great. Even I... well, it was worth it!"

By the one-eyed monster's corpse, the communication stone suddenly flickered with light, as if it had been triggered by some kind of protective seal after its owner's death.

"Lord Ed, your injuries are too severe. The bandaging I did can only help you hold on to life for now," Thomas said in a panicked and helpless tone.

"But if no one comes to rescue us, and we can't get proper treatment, I'm afraid..."

Ed remained surprisingly calm: "Don't worry. Soon... someone will come... and they'll get us out of here."
