Hunter: Growing Stronger with the Light of the Moon!

Chapter 166: The Red Moon

Sophia slightly lowered her head, softly chanting something under her breath. Then, a blue light barrier appeared, enveloping her and Ed.

Only then did Sophia begin to explain.

As the princess of the Human Empire, Sophia was born different from ordinary people. Chosen by the gods, she served as a bridge between humanity and the divine, aware of the coming crisis that could destroy the world.

When Ed arrived in this world, the gods, in a rare act, sent her a divine oracle, revealing that the prophesied child of legend, the one who could save the world, had finally appeared.

Sophia had initially planned to use the power of the Human Empire to quickly find the prophesied child. However, the gods warned her against intervening hastily, for doing so would make the final hope vanish.

Hearing this, Ed furrowed his brow and asked again, "Then why are you here in front of me now?"

Sophia slowly raised her head, glancing at the sky before replying, "It is the will of the gods. We have no time left."

Ed was momentarily stunned. What did she mean by 'no time left'?

Sophia continued, "Before I arrived, the Earth Mother Goddess... fell."

The news of the goddess' fall sent a wave of unease through Ed's heart. Instinctively, he lifted his gaze to the sky.

Due to the Moon Worship Sect's attack, they had wasted a lot of time. It was almost evening now.

A faint, eerie red appeared on the distant horizon, slowly creeping across the sky, casting the entire expanse in a blinding crimson hue.

Countless people looked up, staring at the unusual sight in the sky, frozen in place, unsure of what to do.

An invisible panic began to spread through the crowd. By this time, it was almost time for the moon to rise, and the streets were nearly empty. Even so, chaotic shouts could still be heard:

"My god, why has the sky turned red!"

"An omen, an omen of doom!"

"Run! Go home quickly, don't stay outside."

The blood-red sky had caused widespread panic. Hunters of the Holy City sprang into action, trying to maintain order.

Listening to the noisy sounds outside, Ed took a deep breath, looked at Sophia, and asked, "Is this what you meant by 'no time left'?"

Sophia nodded gravely and replied, "Yes. The Blood Moon is about to appear. When it does, all the monsters will gradually go into a frenzied state and slaughter every living being they see."

"The Earth Mother Goddess said that only you can save everything, Lord Ed."

Ed continued to stare at the sky, and in the reflection of his pupils, a deep, vivid red emerged.

The blood-red moon slowly rose from the distant horizon, casting a demonic red hue over everything in the world.

As the red moonlight bathed Ed, an indescribable restlessness quietly stirred within his heart. It felt as though a voice, one that no one else could hear, was constantly whispering in his ear.

When Ed tried to understand what the voice was saying, he found that he could not make out any words.

The voice was beyond description—no words or language could capture it. It was as if countless beings—humans, animals, monsters, plants, and so on—were all crying out in agony and screaming in suffering as they grew. Their cries were full of unwillingness and rage, mingled with pain, anger, greed, resentment, and other negative emotions that coalesced into one single sound.

Ed shook his head violently, trying to stay awake.

At that moment, a loud explosion suddenly erupted outside the palace, followed by a thick black smoke that, under the red moonlight, appeared like a blooming flower of chaos.

Outside, the Hunters were shouting, "Everyone, do not come into contact with the moonlight!"

"Several Black Iron Level Hunters, after coming into contact with the moonlight, completely lost their minds and began attacking their comrades."

"Everyone be alert! We've received word from the soldiers guarding the city walls—many monsters have appeared outside Holy City. All Hunters who are still conscious and able to move, come with me to the walls and assist!"

At the moment the red moonlight appeared, it seemed as if the entire world descended into chaos.

Ed took a deep breath, turned his gaze to Sophia in front of him, and asked seriously, "Me? Save everything?"

Sophia nodded forcefully. A glimmer of expectation subtly appeared on her otherwise cold face. She answered:

"Yes, Lord Ed. According to the Earth Mother Goddess's oracle, you are the only hope for this world. Only you can truly kill the Evil God on the moon."

Sophia revealed everything she knew. It turned out that the moonlight had turned cold and eerie because, many, many years ago, there had been many gods in the world. Under their governance, various races, species, and creatures lived together harmoniously.

That was until an indescribable and terrifying Evil God accidentally entered this world.

Apart from the Earth Mother Goddess, all the other gods fell. The most powerful God of Creation sacrificed his life to seal the Evil God on the moon. But what they hadn't anticipated was that the terrifying Evil God would gradually merge with the moon itself.

Since then, the moonlight at night began to grow cold, and various monsters started to appear.

However, before the God of Creation perished completely, he left behind a way to resolve all the crises once and for all: the fusion of the powers of the gods and the Evil God, which would create the seed of hope— a sphere of light interwoven with black and white.

Unfortunately, this ball of light, due to some unforeseen accident, fell into the space-time turbulence and was split into two parts, each landing in different worlds.

Sophia sighed at this point, gazing at Ed before continuing, "Delphilis, like Lord Ed, is also a human from another world. He carries a fragment of the seed of hope."

Upon hearing this, Ed slowly raised his hands and carefully examined them, asking, "If I can absorb Delphilis's fragment, does that mean the remaining part of the seed of hope is within me?"

Sophia nodded. Originally, Delphilis was meant to be the savior, the one who would utterly destroy the Evil God. Only by merging the power of the Evil God could the Evil God be completely eradicated.

However, unexpectedly, due to various reasons, Delphilis suffered unimaginable abuse in the Elf Kingdom. That ancient Tree of Life, which had survived for countless years, possessed the innate ability to isolate itself from the outside world.

The Earth Mother Goddess searched for him for a long time, but she could not find Delphilis.

It wasn't until an unimaginable disaster struck the Elf Kingdom that Delphilis's power began to grow rapidly due to various experiments and research. His heart was filled with hatred for everything, and he sought to kill all the elves.

Soon, he met the Giant Hound Soth, who was also being experimented on. The two—one man, one dog—secretly began to build their strength until they could break free from the control of the Elf Kingdom.

Then, the disaster struck.

When the Tree of Life of the elves was severely wounded by Delphilis, its life hanging by a thread, the Earth Mother Goddess finally sensed Delphilis's presence.

But it was too late. By then, Delphilis had already begun to align himself with the Evil God, intending to destroy the world that caused him such pain and hatred.

Fortunately, a powerful figure appeared among the humans— the ancestor of the current emperor of the Human Empire, the Human Emperor, Delphilis Holden.

He initially feigned cooperation with Delphilis, helping him exterminate the elves from this world. Once Delphilis had let his guard down, he then enticed Giant Hound Soth and, with the Earth Mother Goddess's power, finally killed Delphilis.

Afterward, Delphilis sealed Giant Hound Soth underground in Holy City and rewarded the one who deceived Giant Hound Soth, Charles Stewart.

The reason why Delphilis's fragment wasn't completely destroyed was because the power of the seed of hope, the black-and-white light, was hidden within the fragments of Delphilis's corpse.

If it were completely destroyed, the last person capable of saving the world, the savior, would lose a portion of their power, thus reducing the chance of killing the Evil God.

Ed exhaled gently, shook his head, and then said, "I am not the seed of hope. I'm just a human who somehow ended up in this world."

"I only do what I want to do. Hero, savior, sorry, I'm not really interested in that, at least not for now."

Hearing Ed's words, Sophia immediately became anxious.

Ed was the prophesied child of the gods, the last hope of the world!

And yet, he said such things!

Sophia quickly responded, "Lord Ed, you may not understand. If the blood-red moon remains for too long and causes enough chaos and suffering, it will awaken that terrifying Evil God!"

"At that point, this world will absolutely be destroyed. Humans, orcs, and all other races... they will perish!"

Ed didn't know what to say. He felt Sophia's words weren't wrong. If the Evil God really did revive, he would die as well.

However, there was an indescribable feeling in Ed's heart. He began to think of Delphilis, of the person like him, wondering what he had gone through in the Elf Kingdom to become so corrupted and choose to destroy the world.

The strange voices in his ears continued, and his mind started to fill with various images: his fallen comrades from the fox woman sorcerer's cave, Luna's figure, the villagers killed by Vil, Alice...

The faces of those who wanted to kill him, the faces of those he had killed—these images slowly began to become clearer and clearer in Ed's mind.
