Hunter: Growing Stronger with the Light of the Moon!

Chapter 112: The Audience Named Ed

Standing in a corner, far from the usual crowds, Ed sighed quietly. Things had taken an unexpected turn, but the end result was still acceptable.

Although he hadn't captured the person following him, the way they acted confirmed something important—his suspicions about the impending danger in Dorey City were true.

And there were bad people in the Lord's Mansion!

That was the frustrating part. So far, Ed still didn't know who the enemy was, how many there were, or what their exact plans were. All he knew was that Dorey City was facing enormous danger.

The Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association was the most powerful Hunter association in Dorey City, but with President Arya absent and Vice Captain Reve having an unclear connection with the Lord's Mansion, things were uncertain.

Furthermore, Reve still suspected him, which was almost like fighting alone.

Toronto and Ford, one being a Black Iron Level lower-tier Hunter and the other a Black Iron Level mid-tier Hunter, were simply too weak. If either one of them had been targeted, they would already be dead.

Ed took a deep breath, looking up at the sky. The sunlight was slowly fading, and it wouldn't be long before it was dark.

The only thing he could be sure of now was that the hidden enemies wouldn't make their move just yet.

If nothing unexpected happened, they would likely wait until Finniel Morton and her guards arrived in Dorey City before making their real move.

In the distance, dark clouds were slowly gathering, forming a thick, oppressive black mass, heavy and gloomy.

Ed, riding Lightning, began to make his way toward Uncle Du's inn. His shadow slowly merged with the growing darkness behind him.

...

At Uncle Du's inn, as Uncle Du was cleaning, he heard the sound of hooves outside. Thinking it was a guest, he looked up, only to see that it was Ed.

Uncle Du smiled and called out, "Ed, are you here to see Iris? I'll call her down."

Ed shook his head and replied, "Uncle Du, I'm here for something else."

Uncle Du looked at him in confusion, noticing that Ed's expression seemed unusually serious. In his memory, Ed rarely looked like this.

Ed casually found a place to sit and said, "Uncle Du, business must be going well lately."

Uncle Du answered, "Very well. If business every day could be like these past few days, that would be perfect."

Ed nodded, uncertain of how to approach the subject. He actually didn't want Uncle Du, Iris, or Viktor to know about the potential events in Dorey City.

After all, the more they knew, the more danger they might face.

At that moment, however, Uncle Du suddenly smiled. Looking at Ed, he slowly said, "If you've got something to say, just say it. I was a Hunter once, I've seen all sorts of things."

Ed immediately spoke his mind. He wanted Uncle Du to take Viktor and Iris and temporarily leave Dorey City, telling them to go out and handle some business or take a break.

Uncle Du paused after hearing this. The smile faded from his face, and he asked, "What's going on?"

Ed didn't directly answer the question. He simply said, "It would be best if you could leave before tonight."

Uncle Du took a deep breath, not asking any more questions. He walked over to Ed, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "I'll take Viktor and Iris out of Dorey City. What about you?"

Ed naturally wouldn't leave. He didn't want to leave, either.

He didn't want his own issues to drag Iris, Viktor, and Uncle Du into danger. Moreover, Ed didn't want the hidden enemy to use Uncle Du and the others to threaten and pressure him.

He went to the room he had been staying in, placed the hidden high-level spiritual treasure into his storage pouch, and then sat for a while.

Soon, Uncle Du saw Ed stand up and head toward the door.

Outside, the dark clouds were growing denser and heavier, casting an oppressive atmosphere that seemed like it might fall from the sky at any moment.

In Uncle Du's view, Ed, with his twin swords strapped to his back, walked with a determined stride toward the vast expanse of dark clouds.

...

"Boom!" The deafening sound of thunder rang out, followed by a flash of white lightning that fell from the sky, momentarily brightening everything. The sound of rain soon followed.

Back in his room at the Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association, Ed frowned as he listened to the reports from Toronto and Ford.

Things were not going well. Previously, the two of them had delegated the investigation to others, but now they had received word that those people had all voluntarily backed out.

Almost at the same time, they had received death threats.

It was at this moment that Ford truly understood the danger Ed and Toronto had been talking about.

Toronto looked at Ed and slowly spoke, "Captain Ed, here's the plan: tonight, I'll wear the Nightcloak and head to Hurricane Horsewalk to see if I can find anything."

Ed immediately shook his head, rejecting the proposal.

He shared the events of the day with them.

Toronto and Ford's expressions grew even more somber, matching the dark and foreboding weather outside.

Ed slowly walked over to the window, watching the rain batter against the glass. He spoke softly, "Tomorrow, I'll go meet Anthony and test the waters. We still have time."

"You two should stay inside the Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association for now, try not to go out," Ed continued, turning to Toronto and Ford.

Toronto and Ford exchanged glances but didn't nod in agreement.

Ford spoke up immediately, "Captain, it's too dangerous for you to go alone. How about...?"

Ed raised a hand, signaling Ford to stop. His thoughts were scattered, and he needed some time to think things through properly.

The next morning, Ed proactively sought out Anthony.

He deliberately steered the conversation toward warhorses and casually mentioned, "By the way, Anthony, the squad may need to go outside the city for some tasks. Do you think your warhorse can handle it? If not, you could go to Hurricane Horsewalk sometime to pick out a suitable one."

"Many warhorses in the city have been infected with a contagious disease recently, and it seems like Hurricane Horsewalk is the only place where they can guarantee the health of their horses."

"And with Vice Captain Reve there, Hurricane Horsewalk probably won't overcharge, right?"

As he spoke, Ed closely observed Anthony's reactions. He noticed that when he mentioned Hurricane Horsewalk, Anthony instinctively clenched his fist, his facial muscles tensed, and he appeared to be gritting his teeth.

Clearly, he had a strong reaction to Hurricane Horsewalk.

However, when Ed mentioned Reve, Anthony visibly relaxed.

Ed found Anthony's change in demeanor somewhat odd. He heard Anthony respond in a low voice, "My warhorse is fine for now, no need to replace it."

Anthony's tone was subdued, and it seemed as if he was suppressing some sorrow and anger over something he had remembered.

Ed was about to say something more, but Anthony quickly cut him off, saying he had something else to attend to, and then turned to leave.

Watching Anthony's retreating figure, Ed fell into deep thought. Based on Anthony's reactions, it was clear that he knew about the connection between Reve and Hurricane Horsewalk.

Moreover, Anthony didn't seem to care much about the relationship itself; he was simply angry about Hurricane Horsewalk.

In light of this, Ed found himself uncertain. He began to wonder whether Reve, as the vice captain of the Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association, had only a purely cooperative relationship with Hurricane Horsewalk and the Lord's Mansion.

If that were the case, perhaps he could inform Reve about the impending danger in Dorey City. Even if Reve still harbored suspicions about him or coveted the high-level spiritual treasure, it might not pose a problem.

After all, this matter concerned the safety of the entire Dorey City. Even if Ed didn't have any concrete evidence, Reve shouldn't ignore it.

Ed carefully considered this possibility. What he could now confirm was that there were enemies hidden within the Lord's Mansion, sending people to track him and intending to silence him.

His thoughts were now in disarray. There was simply too little useful information. He needed to know more to make an accurate judgment.

Who were the enemies trying to kill him to prevent the plot against Dorey City from being exposed? And who were the allies who could help him?

These two questions truly needed careful thought.

Ed decided to wait a little longer to see if there were any new leads.

Meanwhile, outside Dorey City, in the ruins, members of the Moon Eclipse Demon Hunter Association were wrapping up their work.

One of them turned to a companion and asked, "Where's Vice Captain Reve?"

The companion replied, "I don't know. He must have had something to take care of. He's been so busy these past few days, I haven't seen much of him."

At that moment, Reve was in the forest outside the ruins. He looked up at the ravens circling overhead, furrowing his brows before speaking aloud:

"I told you to minimize contact."

The raven slowly landed on a branch, its red eyes staring at Reve. It opened its mouth, revealing human-like teeth, and responded:

"Master Vil said there's something he needs you to do."

Reve asked, "What's the matter?"

The raven answered, "A spectator named Ed is trying to prevent the performance from starting."

Ed?

Hearing that familiar name, Reve was momentarily stunned. He quickly asked, "Did Ed discover something?"

The raven replied again, "I don't know, but Master Vil said that if you don't want Ed to ruin your revenge, you'd better deal with him quickly."

Reve took a deep breath, nodding. He then reminded the raven:

"I understand. Go back and tell Vil clearly. If he can't fulfill his promises, I will kill him!"
