Chapter 375: Union Bird (Part 2)

Huangfu Yi saw the scene and felt his scalp tingle. He thought to himself how many childless children there were in the world without fate; no wonder this task fell into his hands... Among so many birds in the forest, which one is the Union Bird?

"Tweet tweet!"

After wandering in the jujube forest for a while, suddenly a drop of bird poop landed on his head!

Huangfu Yi quickly dodged and looked up, seeing the Jinque, which had defeated him not long ago, hopping on a branch, mocking and taunting him.

"Why is it you again..."

Huangfu Yi was helpless; this sparrow seemed to have some fate with him, but it shouldn't be the Union Bird, after all, it didn't have one wing and one eye, and its tail feathers didn't resemble those of a wild duck. He couldn't be bothered to deal with it now and turned to continue his search for the bird.

The sparrow was unhappy that Huangfu Yi ignored it, but it didn't have much bird poop on hand, so it repeatedly dive-bombed him, pecking his hair in provocation!

Huangfu Yi found it annoying and had no mood to argue with the bird. Its noise was so bothersome he couldn't concentrate, and the surrounding birds were startled into flight. He resorted to taking some roasted rice he bought at the market and tossed a handful to it,

"I'm looking for the Union Bird. No time to play with you. Eat and get lost!"

The sparrow pecked and declared it garbage, tasteless.

"Tsk, you're being picky too..."

Huangfu Yi searched around and simply threw a handful of Elixir Pills he recently bought for healing and treatment to it, thinking it wouldn't matter if they proved lethal.

After the sparrow finished devouring them while Huangfu Yi continued to wander in the jujube forest, the creature flew over, implying, "Follow me."

"What? You know where the Union Bird is?"

After wandering aimlessly for half a day, Huangfu Yi decided to follow the sparrow into the forest. The sparrow flew light and fast, like a speeding light star, and a moment's distraction could easily cause him to lose sight of it.

Fortunately, the bird seemed to be truly idling, stopping on branches to wait for Huangfu Yi whenever he fell behind, occasionally dropping bird bombs to prevent him from losing his way.

Thus, one flew, and the other chased, diving into the mountains and forests until midnight, when the sparrow finally grew tired and landed on a branch, gesturing to indicate they had arrived, motioning for him to proceed.

Huangfu Yi parted the foliage to see a lonely grave in the wild mountains. The stone tablet before the grave appeared to have been shattered by a palm strike, leaving half-etched, weatherworn glyphs difficult to discern. Overgrown weeds surrounded the grave, long unattended.

He walked around the grave mound without sensing any Demon Wind or ghostly presence. There were no Earth Vein Spirit Plants in the vicinity; the Feng Shui seemed mediocre, and he couldn't discern anything exceptional. If the sparrow hadn't led him here, he might have dismissed it as an ordinary burial mound and passed over it. However...

Huangfu Yi turned to the sparrow.

"Is it really here?"

The sparrow urged him to hurry up and dig.

"..."

Though he had never heard of a bird dwelling in a grave, who could say for sure with Monsters? Maybe it had already transformed into a spirit, so he began to dig.

Huangfu Yi directly drew Zhang San's iron rod to pry it open, uncovering the grave mound and digging downwards for half an hour before finally unearthing a stone slab, revealing a sealed chamber.

Once the chamber was ventilated, and Huangfu Yi tossed in a Fire Talisman, he could see by the flames that it was a tomb, centered around a stone coffin. From the arrangement of incense and decayed offerings on a table, it appeared someone once paid their respects, but the tomb had been sealed for unknown reasons.

The sparrow jumped onto Huangfu Yi's head, indicating for him to enter.

Huangfu Yi assessed the stone slab's thickness, figuring he could smash his way out if it were a trap, shrugged, and leaped into the tomb, clapping his palms to unleash a Hand Wind, warding off potential venomous creatures.

"Whoosh—!" Dust and debris flew everywhere as Huangfu Yi steadied himself, shielding his face, and saw the tomb walls adorned with murals and poetry, though most had oxidized and faded. The themes depicted a love story between a man and a woman.

The rough storyline told of a couple from the Guard General's family, childhood sweethearts and well matched. Later, the woman's family strove for success, using her as a pawn for political marriage, marrying her off as a concubine to the Gate Valve noble family's playboy son.

The couple planned to elope, but on the night, the woman never showed, and the man was captured alive by the Gate Valve, falsely accused and framed, resulting in his family's destruction and his own brutal downfall into a cripple, thrown onto a burial mound to die.

However, fate turned, and the man was rescued by a passing mountain dweller who taught him various martial arts until achieving great Divine Skill. He later joined the Mystic Lady Army, returned to annihilate his traitorous enemies, following a fairly common revenge trope up till then.

Years passed like a fleeting arrow; the man attained great success in martial arts and revenged, but it was already hundreds of years later. By then, the woman had long died, having married into the noble family and allegedly having a full family with a good ending.

The man remained bitter over her betrayal, unwilling to let go, and utilized the wealth and techniques of Qianyang City's officials and noble families for refining until he devised a Thousand Miles Soul Chasing Technique, locating and binding her reincarnated soul with Secret Techniques.

What followed was a somewhat melodramatic and morbid plot of the man's vengeance. He planned to make the woman fall for him, then abandon her, repaying pain with pain.

Thus ensued endless cycles of love and hate, with them becoming partners and mentors, only to abandon, kill, disintegrate, live and die repeatedly, intertwined in countless ways. There were times even when the woman's reincarnation became a man, yet he refused to relent...

In total, this repeated nine times, ultimately, the woman couldn't bear it anymore, her divine thought collapsed, her soul scattered, and this bitter love affair finally came to an end.

But in reality, there was no real ending. This doomed love had lasted for nine lifetimes, any great hatred should have been resolved, yet the man still fell into the endless tribulation of emotions, living without love, unable to extricate himself or find release.

So the man simply dug a grave, sealed the tomb, and buried himself with the woman together...

Huh? Just like that? Buried together and that's it?

After finishing looking at the mural on the wall, Huangfu Yi suddenly felt that things were not so simple, couldn't help but furrow his brow, slowly turned his head, and looked at the stone coffin in the center of the tomb.

"Flap flap"

The sparrow flapped its wings, jumped onto the coffin lid, and gave a sign.

Huangfu Yi understood.

Go up.

Go up...go up to what ghost!! Wait, could it be that the man...is still alive?

The sparrow nodded.

Huangfu Yi was truly speechless.

Oh my god... that lunatic in the mural is from the Xuan Nu's generations! Wouldn't that be five or six thousand years already? Can he really live until now? Isn't that too ridiculous!?

The sparrow indicated, so what, the monsters you killed at the North Pole before, weren't they all rushed by the Immortal Venerable, and weren't all ancient beasts of great age?

That's a different situation...no, how do you know he killed so many monsters before? And how on earth are you using eye gestures to express so much nonsense??

And before Huangfu Yi could compose himself from his chaotic thoughts, suddenly the sparrow spread its wings, raised its head, and pursed its beak...

"Knock knock knock knock knock knock knock knock!!!"

"Hey, don't knock!"

But it was too late, the pointed beak struck the stone coffin, echoing in the subterranean tomb with incredibly crisp reverberations.

The sparrow madly knocked for a while, and then suddenly stopped.

Huangfu Yi stood stiff in place, not daring to breathe for a while, and then...

"Boom!"

The coffin lid flew up!

"Chirp chirp!!"

The sparrow darted out, slipping through the gap of the opening!

"Boom!"

And the heavy stone coffin was blown away with a blow, directly blocking the entrance!

"..."

Huangfu Yi now really wanted to catch that sparrow back, just like in the mural, and do that nine times...

But now he could only tightly grip the iron rod in his hand, suppressing the wild beating of his heart, holding his breath, not making a sound.

Then a hand extended from inside the stone coffin.

Lush and green, like jade-carved bones, without blood or flesh, not even a hint of blood vessels or hair. The entire body, like a skeleton carved from a whole piece of emerald jade... no, not a whole piece, a half piece.

The skeleton standing up from the coffin, with two heads, below the shoulders and neck, half was the emerald green of the jade, and half was the long-decayed calcified dry bones. Clearly two corpses cut longitudinally, their muscles and bones interwoven, forcibly bound together.

But alas, time flies, the years pass, immortal and mortal follow different paths, so when it stood up, the mortal's half body crumbled, fell apart into a pile of bone ash, leaving only one skull hanging on the collarbone, as if intimately held in the arms of the jade skull, cherished in its palm, through life and death, always kept by its side.

In heaven, I wish to be a Concord Wingbird, one wing and one eye, not non-comparable, flying in pairs.

It appeared, a wild Union Bird truly appeared...
